And I don't think this is a subject for beta any more. Mark will decide whether or not he wants to add the field. If you want to discuss the difference between members in order of most recent post, vs. messages in order of most recent message, you should probably take it up in GMF.

My suggestion is not appropriate for GMF, since it's a feature suggestion. Your suggestions don't solve the problem the feature I'm suggesting does. I think I'm done here. :) -- J Messages are the sole opinion of the author, especially the fishy ones.

I think it would be interesting to see how many members post and how many don't. If last posted date was added, and the column was clickable so I could view it by date order, I could scroll down and get a rough estimate of activity by members. I could see the join date of those who are reading but not participating, for example.

That’s pretty much exactly why I want it.

Frances,
Just want to mention there is no way to know who is 'reading' the posts, as there is no tracking of who 'opened' the email message (or viewed on the web either as far as I know). That got me thinking that we can add a last post date for the most recent post/reply. But what about "Like"? Members could read posts and "Like" them so they are interacting with the group but not necessarily posting. Perhaps another data field of 'most recent Like' would be useful? Toby

Thanks, Toby. You say: "That got me thinking that we can add a last post date for the most recent post/reply.”
That’s what is being suggested - to the member list in Admin. Did you have another suggestion that would allow me to see members who never post or those that post just once? I am just curious about whether our newer members ever post. We used to have a requirement that they introduced themselves. We don’t now (although I realize we can add that in). And we’ll always have a percentage of lurkers or those who post rarely. If we have the majority of members never post, then we cease to become an active list. If they never click on reply, even once, we can’t be relevant to them. You mention, “likes”. I don’t believe there is any way to see them. Really what I am talking about is metrics. Ways to measure participation and engagement. See this post from August: https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/message/11025 Frances

With what magical kingdom suggests, you might (and in mine and many groups would) see pages and pages of the same people posting before finding the information I and Frances (and one of two others here who Liked the original suggestion) want; and you would see only active posters. You would not, importantly, have at hand a sorted list, by recent activity level or the lack thereof, of members who are INACTVE and their level of inactivity.

I think Toby’s suggestion is interesting, but for me, would not be so crucial.

Frances, again, home run. That’s precisely the information I want and which is so difficult to attain now. The last posted date order would be extremely helpful.

As for people who don’t like it, you would not have to use it. There is no more suggestion that if substitute for the date joined. It would be additional,

Aw c'mon! What's available in the Member Activity section is NOTHING like Frances' suggestion below. What you get with your approach isn't information; it's DATA. It becomes information only when it's presented USEFULLY as Frances suggests.
toggle quoted messageShow quoted text
Via your approach you see the name and date for every single posting, one line per posting, with many lines showing for the more active members... vs Frances' suggestion below that simply adds the date of most recent posting to the member listing... one line per member... sortable by date of last posting. So... how hard might it be to find the 50 most recent or 50 least recent posters (out of 1,000 subscribers) via your approach vs Frances' approach? A few seconds via Frances' approach... so long via your approach that no one would ever try. Jim H Received from magicalkingdomgroups@gmail.com at 12/6/2018 05:55 PM UTC:

That wouldn't capture reads (likes) by people who receive individual messages at their home email address... where there's no "like" button. Nor would it capture reads via the web by those who don't bother to click "like."

I'm not sure of the value of this even if the read data were accurate... but with it being as inaccurate as it will be I see almost no utility. Jim H Received from Toby Kraft at 12/6/2018 06:05 PM UTC:

Jim is exactly right. (And Frances’s approach is my original suggestion in this thread.) This is a matter of someone being unclear on the concept.
