One idea for the buttons in the pending message screen #suggestion
I decided to start a new topic for this instead of keeping
overloading the Site updates thread.
Thinking more about the current situation with the extra click for Approve & Delete, plus the desire to organize things by function, the desire to keep things minimalistically- neat & tidy, but also the desire to keep things fast and efficient. If everyone (or at least most*) are willing to compromise a bit, split buttons can do the trick, they would still satisfy the above. (*I said most because not everyone is a fan of this button style but most email clients (and many other apps) use them in some capacity or another), and IMO they would be perfect for our situation) In other words, the pending msg screen would change from this current one, to this: Note that there are still 3 buttons as currently so no increase in buttons, the buttons are still organized by function, but the difference is that instead of taking you to a separate dialog for the previously one-step functions (Approve & Delete), you can now do it in one click as before, provided you click on the action button area, since the button action default for Approve and Delete do just that in a single click, but if one clicks on the dropdown arrow part of the button, it then brings up the underlying submenu for Approve or Delete: (the Edit button obviously still stays the same) How to exactly format, display, word, etc, the submenu would depend, but in a nutshell, if one clicks on the dropdown area of the Approve & Delete buttons they would get these options: The Reject dialog would obviously also change a bit, from this current one, to this: In addition, here's a suggestion for this Reject dialog, IMO it would be a timesaver, if the group has only one (& active) Rejected Message notice, to automatically preselect it when loading the dialog. So if I had only one (and active by default) Rejected Message, let's say named "My Rejected Message Default Notice", when the dialog comes up, it has preselected** it so the dialog comes up with the reason already prepopulated for you, so all you have to do is click on Reject: Unless of course the admin wants to type something else, including nothing, I can see why a mod would want to reject without explanation on purpose for a particular troublemaker; i.e., "I sent them the rejection notice already once (or more), explaining why the message wasn't approved, but they keep on doing the Wiley Coyote thing and keep sending in the same message, so OK fine, I'll just keep rejecting it and don't bother to put the yet-again same reason for rejection, hopefully they'll get the message (haha)". They'll still get the boilerplate "A message you sent to the group XYZ@groups.io was not approved by the moderators" email notice if nothing is typed in the reason textbox. ** BTW, the Reject dialog does kinda behave a bit like what I suggest to do, (some may consider this a bug, others a convenience as they don't have to re-select the notice the second time around), in the sense that if you have more than one pending message and reject the first one by having selected a reject notice, when you go to the second pending message and also click on Reject, the dialog now comes up already prepopulated with the last notice you had selected, i.e. the dialog doesn't reset between messages. So this same current behavior could be enhanced to where the first time around, it also preselects the notice for you, provided you only have one of course. Cheers, Christos |

I think Christos' proposal has a lot going for it. As the co - owner of a nearly fully moderated group I can see that having to perform two clicks rather than the original one is likely to be seen as a backward step. That said with having no idea what percentage of all groups are moderated I can have no idea of the scale of the irritation.
It leaves the approval page uncluttered, but with necessary additional functions available if needed. My only slight concern is that as "drawn" the Delete button includes Reject so I might just suggest that the "top button" be relabelled Delete / Reject so that no - one complains that they cannot find "Reject". but if one clicks on the dropdown arrow part of the button,Clicks are relatively easy on a desktop/laptop but using the app these type of buttons are harder to use because of their small size on the screen. I use the app a lot and having a separate button for each option is much easier. if the group has only one (& active) Rejected Message notice, to automatically preselect it when loading the dialog.I like this idea. I often customise a rejection notice so this would save a couple of clicks. Regards Andy |

I like the split button idea, too.
