Moderated Group owner survey #misc

Agree!

Kudos to Mark for even running the survey. It's always risky to ask your customer how much they think they should pay you. ;-)

I would have preferred to be able to skip questions

and when asked about group-size, being able to give a ballpark-answer. Most of my groups have a few dozen members.

One thing I’m not sure you’ll be able to get from a poll: “at what price hike will you stay but be angry about it?”

I started to fill out the survey but can’t really because I don’t make financial decisions for my organization.

We are starting to use groups.io in such a way that it will be very hard for us to extricate ourselves and move on if the price goes up - but if it goes up suddenly and enough to piss people off, they will start to look for ways to feel less trapped and may move on in a few years regardless of what price is doing then.

Yes, it is.

In the past, Google Forms didn't insert an account logon link at the top of every form. Now they do. Hoping to get more people to create an account, I guess.

As Duane said, it's optional, in case you want to partially fill out the form and come back to complete it before submitting. Such a partially-filled-out form has to be stored somewhere, and the only logical place to do that is in each subscriber's account.

Since the pandemic, we've been using Google Forms to conduct our parent organization's annual elections. I now find myself having to explain every year that the our election ballot does NOT require anyone to log in, or even have a Google account, to use it.

I'd rather this option appear at the form definition level, so that I can choose whether or not allow it in my form. But, well, that's Google for you.

Regards,
Bruce

Mark; the banner has disappeared from the top of the web UI pages; was this intentional?

It doesn't come back if you dismiss it and it also goes away when you click the survey link. I don't want it to hammer people over the head with it.

If so then there will be many owners who have no idea that an updated survey is available. (FWIW I am going to take advantage of this update to redo it.)

Although the revised survey will (I think) provide better data, I can still use the data from the initial survey, and I don't want to be like "take this survey! ok, now take this survey! you get a survey! and you get a survey! and you get a survey!". :-)

One point springs to mind; some groups have an existence outside groups.io; others (many others?) exist only on line. Have you polled this point? I ask because the former group would find it much easier to raise funds, very possibly by increasing their current subscriptions slightly; the latter group would find it much less straightforward, because I suspect that simply asking for donations might not be all that successful, an assertion based on admittedly limited anecdotal evidence.

Hmm, I haven't polled that.

Thanks,
Mark

If you read the statement, it's only required if you plan to back out and continue later.  The survey doesn't require it, it's just a form.

As soon as it said,
"Sign into Google..."
I backed out.

I lost membership in my fav 2 groups as they opted for Google. I do not have nor want a Google ____ to sign into. I accept nothing from them, shy of totally disabling my ph. No apps are downloaded or allowed, that can be turned off, with the same proviso. IF turned on, they are used and then disabled.

The appearance of IO having ANYthing to do with Google is unfortunate, however irrelevant it may be in some single case.

If that was not a survey question, well, it got answered by those who saw Google and just bowed out.

Hi All,

I've switched up the survey based on feedback from here as well as some of the responses I've already gotten. I've added more categories, simplified the ranking questions, and I've combined some of the other questions onto one page to make things easier to understand (I hope). Please do not go to the previous Typeform survey. If you haven't yet taken the survey, or would like to take the new survey (no need, but appreciated), the new survey is here:

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSfh9qdWxOg0p6pSXkbULWoNVw7AY8r-4rkhyuD8NtyrjfWNow/viewform?usp=sf_link

Thanks,
Mark (who does not have a lot of experience designing surveys, but is working to improve!)

I would categorise my main groups as "communication tool for enthusiasts' society": what we are enthusiasts of is  (certainly from a groups.io perspective, I would suggest)  essentially irrelevant.

And elsewhere in the survey, a lot of the options/choices aren't really applicable to us. How do you rank several things that aren't actually wanted (at least by me)

So I'm afraid I've abandoned the survey.

Jeremy

Most of my groups are hobby oriented, but because they concern themselves largely with actual operations and equipment, I think I'd classify mine as Academic. We occasionally post some copyrighted images specifically using the fair-use exemption for study and research. For a group not accessible to the public, this seems quite reasonable and defensible.

-----Original Message-----

I didn't see hobby listed so I chose other. I think many of the groups are hobby
groups.

I bailed at question c "Please rank these features in order of most important to least important." Some features in the list are of no use to me and I am not exactly clear about the difference between a restricted vs moderated group vs only allowing invited persons to join. I suspect only one of the listed features is of value to me, yet I am not allowed to proceed unless I rank them all. Giving a rank to the features I do not value would be misleading so I bailed out of the survey.

Hi All,

Thanks for the category feedback, I've added those categories.

I agree, with quite a lot of those centred on "amateur radio" in one or other of its many forms. This is also consistent with Andy W's clubs/organisations where members have a shared interest, although to be realistic that is almost certain to be true of any group, by definition!

My main group is for a registered charity so I ended up choosing 'other' too. I think a lot of groups are for clubs/organisations where members have a shared interest.

What I'm hoping to get out of the survey is an idea as to whether our plans
and pricing structure are appropriate, ie. do the plans provide the right mix
of features, and are they priced appropriately.

If you have multiple groups and your answers would be different for each
group, feel free to take the survey for each group.
Jest noting that while I have several groups, none of them fitted into any of
the listed categories, and would all fall under "other", so I'm wondering if
it is rare to have groups in these categories -- Academic, Literary,
Religious/Spiritual.

This is also showing to group mods too and my group mods don't need to see that and take the survey as they have no responsibility for payments and do not have the 'Billing' permission.

This should be fixed now.
