An inexpensive searchable member directory with current Group.io communication capabilities is exactly what many organizations are looking for, and the value is significant. Is a searchable directory something that is being considered by Groups.io management?
I have been involved in leadership positions with 7 non-profit organizations over the last 15 years. All of those groups have been looking for this combination. Platforms that focus on member directories tend to be complex, expensive and difficult to implement. Platforms like Groups.io, and Yahoo Groups which focus primarily on email communication all seem to avoid, ignore, or misunderstand the value of a searchable and member-modifiable directory. (Many professionals don’t want to or can’t use Google Groups or Facebook.) Is there some technical reason why it is hard for Groups.io to add a searchable member directory?
Other posters in this and the Group Managers Forum have also identified the common value for organizations, such as being able to find specialists and other practitioners.
Duane, what am I missing, I don't see a search button on the Directory page of a particular Group. Is there a way Group subscribers can search for other subscribers by country, area of practice, etc?
I wholeheartedly agree. Yahoogroups COULD have been far more popular and useful if the public directory had worked and had been properly moderated. When someone like me does a groupsearch for "nederland" or "nederlands" and gets thousands of "hits" about fake sexdatingsites....that does not provide happy users.
Of course it has to be up to the founder of the group whether a group is "listed in directory" or not

I don't think that that's feasible without seriously infringing on people's privacy, and a huge amount of programming
