p.s. If all I care about it testing the new search function, can I do that from test version on a laptop? That's all I really need to know. Thanks. :-)

Hi All,

As you know, I've been working on a new version of the site that's better suited for mobile browsers. Along with those changes, additional changes and fixes have been made that affect viewing the site on desktop as well. While not perfect (yet!), the new version is much better than the existing version of the site. Also, having two version is confusing for everybody, so I want to switch over to the new version as soon as possible, which I hope to do on Friday. I'd encourage you to play with the new version before then, on either desktop or mobile, and let me know if you have any feedback.

To switch between versions, go to https://groups.io/test

Thanks,

Thanks. I think this is going to be hard on my iPhone, which is still a5S (I'm skipping 6 and 7 on advice and waiting for 8), and I don't have an iPad. But I will soldier on for the cause LOL. :-)

While I'm at it: meanwhile I did go to the test version on my laptop, and I can't search at all from threads view. There's a magnifying glass but it doesn't seem to allow a search. This is probably just in a state of flux so I will ignore...

The new mobile version isn't an APP. It's mobile web via your mobile browser - just like before but an updated improved version.

What you are seeing at that test URL that you can toggle to is (i think)  what I see and I'm enrolled in the new desktop / new mobile version.

Try entering that URL in to your iphone's browser and your desktop and I think you will see what I see and the new search options.

I see the check boxes in both the desktop and mobile version because I'm in the new test version.

Just go to https://groups.io/test to toggle it. I believe the 'undefined' bug is also fixed in the test version.

locked Re: Possible bug with "I always want copies of my own messages"? #bug

I tried turning conversation view off in gmail. I send a message via email (as before, with "individual emails" and "always want" checked) and got the same as you all are getting: 1 email in my inbox, and 2 in my sent folder. The fire one of the two has the subject of the message preceded by the group tag in brackets.

So with conversation view off, it's reversed: instead of 2 in the inbox and 1 in the sent folder, it's 1 in the inbox and 2 in the sent folder. Same as what's been reported here.

locked the word "undefined" appears at the bottom when you "insert quoted message" #bug

This happens consistently: click "Reply," click "Insert Quoted Message." The quoted message appears and the word "undefined" appears below it.

PS: if you unclick always want then the situation is worse:

- you don't get a copy in your inbox at all if you've sent an email to groups.io via email (but it's in your sent folder)

- you do get a copy of your own email if you sent it via web

And if you switch to conversations view ON it doesn't fix it by bringing the ones in sent over to your inbox...they stay in sent

That's obviously a GMAIL issue as Shal explained and as I've now read a lot about on google forums ( happens with Y! and there is no workaround there) - and even though the duplicate isn't ideal when you select "always send"- its only for your own messages when sent via email and at least it fixes whatever GMAIL thinks it's doing by not showing you messages you have sent in your inbox. I'd rather two than none at the end of the day if there is no solution...

I've never used Outlook so this maybe totally irrelevant but check this out:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=njtlx5Z1E8A

Maybe if you fiddle with those settings, it may resolve copy #3? Or maybe not.

And - yes - that's what i see in my gmail sent box with conversations OFF. The two copies - one has that "inbox" tag" next to it and one does not. Anything send via web is not shown as a duplicate in sent.

Oops, duplicate inbox shot in that last post.  Here's what should have appeared for the Sent mail box as image number 2:

Maria,

I guess the default of "Conversations on" in Gmail has been with me for so long I forgot that you can turn it off in Settings.

Now, for two interesting attached images.  If I have Conversations on in Gmail's web interface you'll see the triplicate for a message I posted via Outlook when I'm reading that conversation.  When I turn off Conversation view that disappears in Inbox, but then transfers itself over to Sent, where there is an item noted as being in Inbox plus what appears to be two duplicate sent items.

And this for a message that was posted to Groups.io using WLM 2012 as the originating e-mail client, Conversations view on in Gmail web interface;

Just popping in to (unfortunately) say that for all its sins, I never had this issue with Y!G, even using conversation views (which I always do).

Also, not sure if helpful - but if you google ( you probably have already...) "duplicate emails in outlook from gmail" i see several results from issues encountered by folks getting their gmail in outlook - there was one result specifically from outlook 2010. Maybe the issue with the triplicate? Maybe not....

Oddly, despite my love for threaded views in discussion forums I switch it off in all my mail (mac/yahoo/gmail) ... really don't like it, especially when receiving individual emails from Y! groups or other discussion groups.

Also, just to be clear, I am not counting anything as a duplicate in conversation view unless both messages are in my inbox.  In Outlook there are conversation views that thread together both received and sent messages, and when that's on I don't count any that show up in Sent that duplicate what comes back in to me from Groups.io when I receive it.
