He stated not fig-leafed when shown in the archives, and archives are not in e-mail, they are on the web. I want the option for them to remain fig-leafed even in the archives.

Thanks,

Mark,

I would not want my e-mail address ever displayed on the top right. So if you decide to do that, please make optional or let the user choose what is displayed.

Thanks,

Brenda

I think this topic relates to how email addresses are shown in the body of an email. So like if I recommend a vet and want to share the vet's contact info with someone who asked for a recommendation for a vet, the group owner could set a group option to display that email address in full on the message archive instead of fig-leafing it. I don't think this would apply to the email addresses of people who are posting or if a post was quoted in a reply, just if an e-mail address is included in the body of the post.

I understand, I only started tweeting for the Yahoo Crusade.

Hopefully if the site is down, you have a friend or know someone on Twitter you can ask to let you know if there's info on the status twitter account.

Yes, that was soundly rejected, I want my e-mail address fig-leafed at all times whenever it's shown on the web.

You had thought about making it an option per user, not moderator, but I want to keep mine private and already explained it well before now,

Thanks,

So for example I see in my topics view starting from the top:

Navigation Button to click to "Next Topic" without having to return to message
Ideas To Help Prevent Offlist Abuse
Updates to Trello
New profile stuff
Updates to Trello #trello
Updates to Trello #trello
Moderation rules? 2 messages #wishlist
don't duplicate photos on home page when due to top post
checking messages
Can't deleted email notifications from iphone--Mark 2

That's the order I see.

Then I click in to : "Navigation Button to click to "Next Topic" without having to return to message " and i used to see the first post in the thread at the top, now i see the last, i click the sort order to get back to the first one at the top in that thread. Then I click "previous topic" and this is the order I get:

Navigation Button to click to "Next Topic" without having to return to message
ordering "your groups”
Navigation Button to click to "Next Topic" without having to return to message archive (again)
New profile stuff
Proposal: All groups must be moderated or new user moderated
Spam filter
Temporarily disabled group creation
Unsubscribing others... this seems to be possible

So, I'm not sure what I am doing wrong but I'd love it if clicking previous would bring me through the topics in the same order as the way I see them in topics view and if the first post in the thread stayed at the top of all the topic view - and that stayed sticky from one thread to the other as i click through each one.

Right, I sort them in topics view with the one with the most recent activity at the top ( first) so the previous button should take me to the one below it, but I don't think it's doing that. Plus one thread (when in it) will show most recent activity at the top and another the other way around. Either I am very very tired, or something isn't working quite right.

Also, I feel like "previous topic" should bring me backwards to older topics, and "next topic" forward to the most recent/ the one with most recent activity. But I feel like it's working the other way around?

Also, if i am in the topic called "ideas to prevent offlist abuse" the previous button is greyed out. But if I come in to this one which is the most recent topic, i get both the previous and next button as options but there is not next topic.

For some reason when i go to the next or previous topic I see the most recent post in the topic at the top of the screen whereas before it was the oldest on top and the most recent at the bottom. I click the date arrow to fix but when i go to the next topic it's sorted with newest at top and oldest at bottom again.

I'd originally thought one but makes more sense to have a back/forth -  next/previous topic - so I guess 2 arrows...

Just pushed this live. The directions of the previous and next buttons depends on how you sort the threads view.

Reply to Sender should certainly be lower down.

Replying to Sender via email still uses the Groups.io system, so changing the order won't affect the email circumvention problem I mentioned. I was referring to someone simply harvesting an email address and sending an email outside the system.

I agree there, and yes, controlling the web interface won't get rid of the email problem but would be helpful in general.

I thought the order was based on the group default reply?

If the group default set up is to reply to group - that option should be the first one, and sender afterwards - and vice versa if the default s set up the other way around. And in groups where you only have one option, you'd only see that option.

But I do think that reply to sender is extremely useful and often used by many groups where offlist replies are perfectly fine.

I see your point except:

- When the PM's become an option from the directory there should be limits. Those members may never have emailed and you wouldn't see their email address, you'd just have a way to PM them out of the blue so abuse of that lovely feature should be prevented.

- If a spammer joins and is NuM, they would probably start spamming offlist within a brief time period - not enough to have accumulated that many email addresses via the notifications. They would have greater access via the archive to sending offlist replies quickly to as may members as they can before they get reported.

So, the web interface isn't 100% the same as the emails in an inbox. And in fact there are controls over how many people you can email from an email interface before the server places a hold, no? I think your initial concern is worth thinking about because it does raise some interesting points.

Hi

I wonder whether the order should be changed for the footers in emails.
Reply to Sender should certainly be lower down.

Personally, I would only reply to Sender to say “thanks” or if the discussion  had seriously wandered away from the group’s focus.

I don't know if it's possible to have much control, given that spammers can always circumvent the system by using email. Every time I nearly post a wishlist item about logging PMs, I stop myself when I realize it wouldn't do much good anyway because of the circumvention.

Setting up a new topic to discuss ideas / ways in which the system or owners can help thwart those who seek to use the offlist reply option and the future PM option to spam or abuse group rules.

We should probably start a new topic...

J, that's a good example and one would hope a member would complain to the group owner so that the spammer can be removed...But perhaps placing limits on how many daily PM's you can send - either as offlist replies or as DM/PM's ( when that's an available option via the directory), would be a worthwhile thing to discuss.

Having a daily limit per group/per sub-group might not be a bad idea? If it's doable...

Or having some kind of owner warning if it appears that a member is sending an inordinate # of replies offlist to different members?
