Janice,

Also please accept my condolences.

I've tweaked the wording a bit, including mentioning 'up to 12 messages'.

Thanks,

Don't mean to hijack this - or open up a debate - but just wanted to chime in because I'd love for the web interface to do the opposite :)

I'd love for all posts to be the same font/font size both on web interface and digests/emails etc.

As discussed here: https://groups.io/g/beta/topic/4062311

Would be great if there were an owner controlled option to streamline all content to the same font/font size save headlines/bolding.

Would make moderating on the go/mobile much easier, ensure legibility/consistency of digests across mail apps/clients, help people decide on scaling of font size on mobile by being able to predict font size of emails from groups, and I also believe aesthetically more attractive overall design wise. Currently, on the odd post we get that is a different font size or font - we manually adjust it to be 14 point helvetica neue in the pending process. The majority of our members do not use any of the font customization options the interface composition window currently offers. So, the odd one here /there that does really looks out of place.

Would it be possible to get the activity logs in an RSS feed? That would
be perhaps easier than checking it daily for things like, for example,
bounced memberships. I only ask since groups.io doesn't appear to email
such a creature to folks who need to see it. Either that or I haven't
found it yet.

moderated Ability to set font/size/color preferences for a user's default text style on the web interface #suggestion

Brian Vogel <britechguy@...>

Subsequent to a spirited discussion elsewhere I decided to dig about to see if there was a way for those of us who use the web interface as our primary interaction mechanism to select a font, size, and color that would be used for any new content we might compose whether as a new topic or in replies to ongoing conversations.  I'm coming up empty.

I've written to someone who routinely uses a specific font and color when writing here to see if that was controlled via an e-mail client/interface, which I know how to do, or the web interface.  The response was it is an e-mail feature and that said correspondent knows of no way to do the same thing for the web interface on Groups.io with the exception of the signature(s) one uses.

As a direct example of what I'm proposing, see this partial screen shot from Gmail's main settings page:

You are able to choose among the fonts the Gmail site offers, the size you wish, and the color that will be used for any text that you are entering.  This is not, at least to my knowledge, currently supported for an individual's composition text via the web interface.  You can change it from Helvetica 14-point afterward, but that can become very tedious.

Certainly not an earth-shattering issue, nor a need, but it's certainly consistent with the majority of web interfaces for text-based media these days.

If I'm somehow entirely incorrect and this capability exists, would someone please point me to where to find those settings?

Janice - I too am very sorry for your loss. I can't even begin to imagine the heartbreak. My condolences.

Separately, yes, maybe the digest option should state that it's every 12 posts and maybe the summary option description should clarify that it doesn't actually contain the posts but rather a summary of activity with links to that on the web interface.

Me again.  Please forgive my confusion as my mind is not functioning well today because I buried my 53 year old son yesterday.  I see the word Daily is not part of the Digest option description.  I still think a brief explanation about how often the Digest is sent out might be helpful.

Thank you for being patient with me.

I just looked at the new Delivery Options under Subscriptions and see there is a brief but helpful explanation for each. I need a little more detail. I think my confusion is how often a Daily Digest is sent out.  The last I remember, the Daily delivery was changed to after 12 messages rather than 25.  I think that is the area I need clarified.  How often and when the Daily Digest is sent out now.  I'm wondering if including that as part of the description under Delivery Options might help people make a more informed decision.  To me, Daily Digest suggests once a day but I don't think that is true.  By including a more detailed but simple explanation for the Digest options, it might clear up any confusion the word "Daily" might cause.

Thank you.

Could someone please write a simple description of all the delivery options now available and what they mean..  I have been trying to follow this thread but my son was killed in a motorcycle accident on Saturday and I have been dealing with a lot of family issues.  I would like to post an explanation to the members of my group but I don't feel confident that I have a full understanding myself.  Thank you.

Shal, sorry, you are right. It is on the Subscription page.

I’ll set one group to the summary to see what it looks like.

Cheers,

I'm not sure where you're seeing it, but I'm seeing it in the Subscription page - which is member-specific.

Second, I am surprised that the option is part of a radio button
selection - i.e. you can only have one chosen - digest or daily
summary or all messages.
The summary is seen as an alternative to digest. That is, it addresses the problem of having digests getting too long and being trimmed by some email interfaces.

I get all messages, but I could see that it would be handy to get a
daily summary as well as the individual messages.
As a moderator I've often wanted both individual and digest messages, just to monitor how things are seen by group members. I've handled that by subscribing to my groups under more than one email address. I'll probably add another email address to my groups in order to receive the Summary as well. But I think that's an obsessive moderator thing, not a normal member thing.

I don't know, other than as a matter of tradition (and user expectation) why the choices couldn't be made non-exclusive. Perhaps:

[_] Individual Messages
[_] Message Digest
O Full Featured
O Plain
[_] Special Notices
[_] Daily Summary

This is a bit more complicated to understand, I think.

"No Email" would be achieved by leaving all four unchecked. The group option to remove the No Email feature would make Special Notices permanently checked. I would also have checking "Individual Messages" and/or "Message Digest" cause "Special Notices" to be automatically checked (and not uncheckable).

Note that I've incorporated two things I've been asking for.
1) changing the description to "Individual" not "All" messages.
2) Making "Full" or "Plain" a sub-selection of Digests.

Hi All,

I just pushed to the live site the new daily summary delivery option. Summaries will be delivered a little after 6am local time. Please let me know if you have any feedback or suggestions.

Thanks,

Its strange. The member activity says she reported a message as spam and I received the email that she was unsubscribed for reporting a message as spam but she says that there was nothing in her spam folder and she never received the email telling her she was unsubscribed..

I have to do a little more digging. Maybe she has her email (Yahoo) delete spam messages automatically.
Thanks for the help Shal

Tami,

I got a message from the other owner of my group that she was
unsubscribed but there was nothing marked as spam and she didn’t
receive an email letting her know she was unsubscribed.
If you haven't, try searching for her email address in the Member Activity table and Moderator Activity tables of your group's Activity page. One or the other of those ought to say something about how she was unsubscribed.

If neither does, and she was in fact unsubscribed, I'd report that to support@groups.io as a failure of the Activity Log system.

Has anyone here had that issue and if so, how often does it happen?

Every time something strange like that happens I just say its a glitch while Mark is working on improving things in the background but she's starting to freak out and I'd like to be able to tell her something to make her calm down.

Sorry, important amendment: it was earthlink that screwed up, not gmail. Earthlink blocked all her emails coming from gmail instead of just the spammy company she'd marked as such. (Our group routinely advises members to avoid using either earthlink or aol.)
