Frances,

Sorry, Shal, it turns out only Rochelle's message was incorrect on my
iPhone.
I was going to suggest in that case that perhaps Ro had cc'd or bcc'd you directly in her reply, but I see that her reply was to J's initial post rather than to yours. That you could have detected in your iPhone by the lack of the standard group footer.

My copy of Ro's message does have the In-Reply-To field (which is how I'm certain she replied to J), and the References field as well, so short of some kind of glitch in the transmission of your copy I don't know why your iPhone might single out this message for misbehavior.

I can't see the full headers on my iPhone but other messages are behaving correctly. I am on my way home later today and can only check on my Mac computer then.

I don't know whether it was a member momentary blip or something else. I'll double-check later on my home computer.

Just that message, or any Groups.io message?

If they all misbehave (in groups that are set to Reply To Group) on that device that would imply that the email UI in your iPhone does not respect the Reply-To: header field, which is how Groups.io (and Y!Groups, and other list services) direct replies to the list.

I think I recall hearing this complaint against some mobile devices before.

Does your email UI support examining the full message header (view full header, view source, or something like that)? If so you can verify whether the message had a Reply-To field, as all messages from Groups.io should.

An error?

I'd say so. But which kind is still murky.

Upfront, I am new to groups.io and am still in the process of moving my yahoo group and a dozen or so subgroups to .io.

So maybe I am missing something, but I assume that before the change to separate the Admin functions under the new tab that there

was a "members" tab showing in the regular subscriber menu options. I have my main group and subgroup settings for "members visible"

Set to "subscribers". I need for all members to be able to see the complete members list for each group/subgroup they are a part of.

Unless I am missing something, there is currently no way for the normal non mod/owner subscriber to get to/view the members list.

I just tried this, cause i have muted many threads in beta, and never had to log in, but you are quite correct.  NOW it asks you about logging in.  I see no reason for this to be required, its an unnecessary and annoying step.

Typically, group members who want to mute a thread are the ones who use only or mainly email (which is why the mute feature is valuable to them). However, they try to use the feature and come back perplexed or annoyed that it's making them log in and they don't know how. Then I have to explain to them how to log in, which they have no interest in except for wanting to mute a thread. If they log in and access via web , they have no need to mute. So it's sort of a catch 22 (maybe wrong analogy...)

If you can reply to a message via email, could there be a way to do (seemingly) simple things like mute a topic via email?

I have two logins for different accounts and invariably I last used the wrong one! I have to logout and then login to the correct one. A nuisance.

locked Re: Moderator notice when subscriber's email bounces #suggestion

Ronaldo,

And maybe also (again) if they transition from Bouncing to Bounced.
Is there a difference? If so can someone explain it?
Bouncing is when a member's email service has rejected a message giving a permanent (don't try again) error code; or when it has repeatedly given a temporary (try again later) error code for too long. Group messages are no longer sent but Groups.io periodically attempts to contact the member.

Bounced is when Groups.io has given up attempting to contact the member.

More detail from Mark here:
https://groups.io/g/beta/message/3411

Earlier messages, and the Groups.io help, claim that when Groups.io gives up on attempting to contact the member then they are unsubscribed from all groups. But that does not appear to be true anymore - instead they are put on "Bounced" status.

See the second paragraph of Mark's original post (#10753). Note as well that the message is signed "Cheers, The Groups.io Team". No group moderator should have the temerity to forge that signature.

Can someone clarify: would that message go out automatically, or is this a suggestion for group owners to send out when the member is unsubscribed due to this?

(Also: In light of this situation, I'll repeat here my recent wishlist/suggestion, which was unrelated to this issue at the time, that the automatically generated "banned" notice be changed to an automatically generated "removed" notice, since members will presumably in general be removed more often than banned.)
