Hi Mark,

It would be amazing if you could add a "notify" checkbox to each edited page of the wiki.

Thanks,
Linda

Another option is to only put deliberately uploaded photos on the home page, excluding those that come in by email. That would likely get rid of most of the problems while still allowing new photo uploads to be highlighted.

Mark --

Would it be possible to include a short version of each group in the file tab that appears before the post name, or section? If you could do that, then there would never be anymore confusion about what group we are in, and it wouldn't be hidden either, because it's a tab, so it doesn't have to float, and doesn't move.

This Add-on is AWESOME! For the first time ever, I can tell my various Twitter tabs apart, and my Groups.io tabs apart! I can have both Beta and GMF open at the same time!

I posted this in here, because if you are having problems determining which group is which, this fixes that problem completely!

One other thing I did wanted to point out though, is the tab name (i.e Beta or GMF) changes every time you click on a message or location in the group. If the group name was on the tab before whatever else, i.e.

Beta: Re:Clearly identify...
or GMF: Re: Link in E-mail...

It would always point to what group you are in. The title switching in the tabs was my biggest confusion as to which group until I tried the colored tabs.

Thanks Brian, you just made my online life a whole lot easier!

Database destruction/failure was one of the biggest reasons people were unhappy at Y. I'm really glad we've found a location that gave it back. :)

Sue, your database idea sounds great, BUT... that requires manual maintenance, yes? That seems like potentially a lot of ongoing work.
I don't find it that much work but then I've had it in place for years and only need to add to it when a new file is uploaded. The initial set up could be a lot of work if you have large amounts of files.

It would be good to include the file sizes, uploaded-by, and uploaded-date, too, of course, but that would just be gravy.

This is exactly what I use a database for (and why I would like English, or at least, International dates). I have columns for date uploaded and by whom etc. In addition, and I'm ridiculously ecstatic about this, a hyperlink to each file. I haven't been able to do that at Yahoo for years now and it's so lovely to have that facility back again.

Ro,

I see no photos on your home page other than your regular home page
photo...
They aren't shown to non-members.

Which severely limits their utility as a group promotional tool, but preserves the privacy of the archives.

Great idea. I kind of want that too.

pop-up, rather a full 'normal' HTML page, and would include the files in the
folders as well as the folders.

This would be handy:
1) For user's trying to find particular files.
2) For user's trying to figure out the best place to upload files.
3) For user's wanting to compare a previously saved directory to the current
directory to see what's new (some users don't check the 'notify' box when
uploading files, so stuff can "just appear.")
4) For owners/moderators to more easily "see everything" for re-organization
purposes.

It would be good to include the file sizes, uploaded-by, and uploaded-date,
too, of course, but that would just be gravy.

Any chance?

Scroll down to "recently posted photos" towards the bottom of the page. (If you're going to say there are no duplicates, it's because I've removed all that were possible to remove. The rest have fallen off the bottom as time moved on, but they're still in there and impossible to remove because of the way the emailed photos page is ordered.)

Hi Mark,
I'd be sad - I love the look of our home page with the photos:

Re the reverse chrono order for the emailed photos page: that would also make it at least somewhat feasible to remove the duplicates if you keep the photos on the home page.

ps If you do nuke it, it might be a good replacement to display the 'emailed photos' page in reverse chronological rather than alphabetical order, or allow that as an option.

Another point besides the duplication (often causing as many as 5-6 of thdcsame photo in a row) is the other serious issue/problem with this feature that 'recently posted photos' is a misnomer. They're the emailed photos, and months-old photos will remain as the group's 'headline' while very recently posted (actually posted) photos don't show up there, often inexplicably to the group members who posted them and completely misrepresenting current activity in the group. I forgot to reiterate that in this thread and just wanted to include that reminder. I'd nuke it.

No objection here.  Our group disallows attachments anyway - so either way is not a problem for us.  More important to us would be an automatic notification that a new photo has been added to the photos section, and the ability to rearrange photos within albums and to comment directly on photos.  Those are things that we really miss from the Yahoo days.  I know those are on the "to do" list and we are really hoping that they can be accomplished in 2017.
