moderated User Defined Fields in Member Profile #suggestion

Dave, G8FXM <webmaster@...>

I'd like the ability for a site owner to define some user defined profile fields, for example an organisations membership number field, so that this field will appear in the members profile for members to populate. Moderators and owner should also me able to edit these fields.

Dave, G8FXM <webmaster@...>

Ah found it now, it's set in the 'Account Profile' I was trying to set it in my 'Group Profile'.

Many thanks.

Mark discussed username and name, etc. in an earlier thread - title "new profile stuff".

https://groups.io/g/beta/topic/new_profile_stuff/2864409

To set your display name, etc. go to your profile in the top right corner on the website for a group you belong to, click on Account, click on Identity on the lefthand menu.

There may be a problem with the match between the new labelling and the error message, but I am fairly sure if you set everything up on that page, you'll be fine.

Thanks for this but it doesn't answer my question. I have updated my profile, set my password and set 2 factor authentication all good, But the user name field says "Username ot set" with no way to set it. I can set my display name but not my username, is this a bug maybe?

I've already messaged Mark about this via support, but moderators should be very careful at this point in "preemptively" banning an email address (i.e., one that is not currently subscribed to the group). With this fix, if you ban an email address that's not subscribed, that email address receives the "you've been banned" message - even though they don't belong to the group, may never have belonged to it, and may never have even tried to join.

This has been fixed. Now when you enter an email address to ban in the Members view, that person does not get a banned message.

Thanks,
Mark

(Perhaps this is one of the "two instances"? I think only one of the instances - the one where the email address is actually a member of the group - should trigger the "banned" message.)

OTOH, the change below was a needed and a good fix. Preemptively banned addresses who were not members of a group were formerly told to log in, even though they were not members of Groups.io

  • CHANGE: If trying to join a group through the log in path, and you're already banned, display a banned error instead of a pointer to log in.

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • BUGFIX: In two instances, when banning someone, if there was a banned notice set, it wasn't being sent out.
  • CHANGE: If trying to join a group through the log in path, and you're already banned, display a banned error instead of a pointer to log in.
  • CHANGE: Approving a pending message to a closed thread will now work. Also fixed a crash bug with it.
  • BUGFIX: There was a bug with expired credit cards and no way to update them. Also added the ability to delete your current credit card without adding a new credit card.
  • CHANGE: Investigated issue with Facebook integrations, found out they don't work anymore because of Facebook, and disabled adding new ones for the time being.
  • CHANGE: With yahoo group transfers, add a note saying members have been added to the updates group.
  • CHANGE: For enterprise groups, direct add should not add people to updates@.
  • SYSADMIN: Sent a message to updates@, which also doubles as a stress test for the system. As a result, bumped several message sending parameters to increase the number of emails we can send at once.
  • INTERNAL BUGFIX: In karl, some messages could be placed on the wrong sending queue.
  • INTERNAL: Fixed syntax error logged when trying to view messages from a deleted group.
  • INTERNAL: Rearchitected how paging through topics was done to speed it up.
  • CHANGES: Various tweaks to the mobile interface.
  • BUGFIX: For messages originating in email (not web), we resized inline images to a max of 640x640, regardless of what the group settings were. Now, we are consistent with how web posting works, in that we resize to the max of (640, what the group size is).
  • SYSADMIN: Adjusted Postgres memory parameters.
  • BUGFIX: HTML footers were missing Reply to Sender/Group for groups set to reply to both.

Have a good weekend everybody.

Mark

Check the wiki in the Group Managers Forum - membership in the group not necessary.

I'd like to see support for Gravitars, so instead of having to upload profile photos everywhere, you control them once in http://en.gravatar.com/.

Apologies in advance if this has already been answered. I'm new to Groups.io and have just been trying to update my profile in the groups i belong to. I see that "Username is not set", but I don't see a way to set my username. Am i missing something or is this option disabled?

In both of my groups, editing the wiki is not enabled for ordinary members, since the wikis are used for specific purposes. We wouldn't actually need the notifications to pass through moderation, but as the groups are fully moderated, I suspect that would be the case anyway.

Yes, that's Facebook's API. I have not had a chance to investigate what's involved with fixing Page integration or adding Facebook Group integration.

Non-scrolling! That's the word I've been looking for in regard to databases, for the column titles. I realize that's off this topic, but I'm just putting in another request for this. Databases are really, really hard to read when the column titles scroll out of view.

I like that idea a lot! I've seen it done elsewhere and it's quite beautiful and streamlined without adding any odd elements to the design.

The non scrolling bar ( blue in this case) indicates the groups name when you are scrolling in topics/messages/ expanded messages/polls/chat view (or other views i suppose), and then if you go in to a topic and start reading the whole thread - it shows you the name of the topic in the blue bar as well as the group name. So no matter where you are, whether in topics view or single topic view (etc) you always know what group you are in and what topic you are reading.

Linda,

It would be amazing if you could add a "notify" checkbox to each
edited page of the wiki.
Since this would be (I'm assuming) a notice initiated by a member to the group, let me further suggest that it leverage the existing New Topic UI and functionality to the extent practical.

That is, when the box is checked then (either in-line, or when the change is committed) open up the New Topic editor with subject and sample body text pre-filled. Of particular merit in the notice body would be a link back to the edited wiki page. (Permalinks for Wiki pages are still on the wish-list, right?).

The key is that the notice be treated as any other message from this particular member to the group -- subject to moderation controls, footers and anything else which would normally apply.

A concern is that a member might otherwise abuse the wiki as a way to end-run message moderation controls. In Yahoo Groups we saw that done with event notifications.
