moderated Direct Add to use Display Name specified instead of Past Member entry #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

picking up on a GMF topic when you Direct Add a member the display name specified at the time is ignored if the email address is also in the past members list, it takes the display name from the past member entry. An individual display name can be changed easily but the OP on GMF had added around 100 new members and mistakenly switched the first and last names. Now he cannot delete them all and start again.

Is there a reason we cannot just take the display name used on the DA?

Thanks,
Andy

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • INTERNAL: Work on new Help Center and code to convert the new manuals from Google Docs to HTML.
  • CHANGE: In the database table page, replaced the individual visibility toggle buttons with a dropdown menu.
  • NEW: Database address columns have a default country.
  • CHANGE: Changed width of all selects on the website so that they are their natural width, not 100%, which was confusing to some and ugly to all.
  • CHANGE: For Multiple Choice, Multiple Select columns, use a series of checkboxes instead of a HTML select element.
  • CHANGE: Improved look of the database add row page.
  • NEW: Database columns have a new description field.
  • API: Added /getactivitylog endpoint.
  • API: The docs incorrectly left off the /get prefix for the subgroupcategories endpoints.
  • API: Passing in the type parameter to /getmembernotices would return a blank response.
  • BUGFIX: The database map wasn't working for Enterprise domains.
  • BUGFIX: If an address field in a database was set to a non-default color, the color would not show up in the add/edit row screen, potentially causing the labels to also disappear.

Stay safe everyone.

moderated #bug Gio iCal feed errors making GCal mad #bug #fixed

Dave Huseby <dhuseby@...>

Hello,

The Hyperledger community uses Groups.io for all of our mailing lists and community managed calendars. We like to use the .ics feeds from groups.io to populate a GCal plugin on our Confluence wiki. We're finding that GCal fails to render all of the events in the feed. I ran our iCal feed through an ics validator and found tons of errors:

After checking with the ics standard ( https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc5545 ) it seems like the feed rendered by Groups.io is formatted correctly but the dates in the DTSTART and DTEND parameters seem way off (2017 and 2018). I suspect that the errors are what is causing GCal to refuse to render all of our events but there doesn't seem to be a pattern in that GCal doesn't like.

I would appreciate any help you can give us because we're facing the prospect of migrating back to GCal if we can't fix this soon.

Cheers!

I can see that it's different in that the message in the DA dialog tells a member to use the Email me a link to login button but the actual email contains the link itself which is probably easier for a new member, so that should clarified. Other than that, we seem to be discussing options to amend the DA dialog and message which has been discussed elsewhere before.

moderated Make Admin>Subgroups screen left/right scrollable #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi,

can the Admin > Subgroups screen be made left/right scrollable? We have 20+ subgroups and the only way I can scroll the display is to set focus on one of the visible checkboxes and then tab to the right. Even when the last checkbox on the row is active, the column heading is not fully visible.

Thanks,
Andy

Hi All,

Thanks for all the kind wishes. We are doing ok. My daughter has recovered. Because COVID testing is still not available, we don't know what she had, although her friend had strep, so it may have been that. We are doing what we can to carve out pockets of normality in this deeply abnormal time.

I hope you all are staying safe.

You could go into the members’s list, select all (may need to be just a page at a time) and change their delivery to one of the digest modes.  Daily summary is good as it gives you an idea of how active a topic is but might not be timely enough for your situation.  Not exactly what you are asking but might help.

Stay well in this difficult time.

Hi All,

Just a quick note that, like I'm sure with all of you, my productivity is taking a hit right now. Amongst all the craziness, our kids' school is closed for at least 3 weeks, and we're also dealing one of them having (hopefully only) the flu. Customer support/responses to beta@/development work will all be slowed for the foreseeable future.

Thanks,

Mark

And yes, the message sent is different than what the Direct Add dialog says it is going to send.  What you see in the Direct Add dialog is not the truth.

moderated Re: Delayed email delivery #outage

Mark,

Just letting you know that something is still awry (which may or may not be related to the glitch). About 10 minutes ago, I ran a test with a test member subscribing via email to a restricted group. The member received and succesfully replied to the confirmation email, but the email delivery history still shows "no email deliveries." That would normally cause me to resend it (not knowing they actually got it). Also, they did not receive the pending member email at all. This is a gmail address.

Hopefully this will all iron itself out eventually. I can send you details offlist if you want them, and/or just wait and hope for the best.

Thanks.

I'm still getting emails from online posts that I can see were done hours ago so it's obviously still catching up.  Patience is a virtue :-)

Hopefully Mark will confirm when he thinks all is fully OK and we can review then.

Just look at at any "You have been added to ..." email sent by the system to anyone who was Direct Added.   Or see attached screenshot.
