Bob, try again but with a 10+ Mb PDF file, see if it fails for you as well.

I can consistently reproduce the error with very large (PDF & TXT) files; I don't get it with smaller files (<~9 Mb)

moderated #bug Folder Photos, "emailed photos" search function, no results ????? #bug

Hi Mark,

In the title.
How does it work?
Because nothing as result....
I have searched "IMSTP" , I was waiting all the small pictures table.
Blank page...
I have supposed that for many returns in the search  the  page have a size trouble but no , same for my group with fews pictures in "emailed photos" (20).
Initial was here:
https://groups.io/g/listeATV
Where I am a moderator.

By the way, it seems that the record is on the name and the date but....if many time the same picture we lost many space.
Possible rule:
-on name, if already exist, if same size  it is the same , not re-load.
-if later a picture no more exists, it could be taken the picture with the name only.(because owner or moderator have cleaned it)

Why  many time the same picture?
-used in the e-mail signature.
-re-send with reply function with all the content.
So for listATV, IMSTP12.gif is stored around 80 times in "Emailed photos" folder.

Thank you for your help.

Tried again and it still worked ok for me.
Both tries were with no subject and no body text.
What device r u using?  What browser, is the file local or in the cloud like dropbox, etc, etc?
I'm on a new Gamer PC this time and it worked.
the first test was on an HP PC Intel I7
Both are Chrome and my network is xfinity.

Joanie,

I was able to (more or less) consistently reproduce the error but with LARGE files only.

There seems to be some refresh-timing issue that causes this, I'll post a more detailed follow-up message with my test findings, they should help Mark pinpoint exactly where the problem is, but I had the same problem with > 9 Mb PDF, > 12 Mb TXT, and > 15 Mb or so JPEG; smaller sizes worked fine.

How large where the files you had problem with?  Have you tried it with smaller size and/or less-complex PDF?

Cheers,
Christos

It seems very intermittent. I just tried again with subject only and it didn't show up. I tried to refresh my browser screen after I did the attachment but that did not help.

It manifests itself as sending two attachments with the message because if you don't see the first one then you try a second time. The second one shows up and then you press send and it sends a message with the duplicate attachment.

It's more of an annoyance but there may be an underlying problem that is larger. Not sure.

This could explain why so many of my group members send duplicate attachments.

Not sure if this occurs on a reply to a topic when attaching a message.

It only occurs when you don't have a subject or any message text prior to adding the attachment. If you have either a subject or some message text then it shows up.

Very weird. I'll try to narrow it down.

Just did exactly what you stated.
For my test, the file name showed immediately after I completed the FIRST attachment.

Hi Mark,

there have been no #suggestions marked as #done on this group since mid-September last year but several have been implemented.  Have you abandoned that policy or has it been overlooked?

Just to continue this ...

I'm logged in with my TZ set to UTC.
I created an event for 19:00 on Monday 25th.
It showed immediately in the calendar as 19:00 on the 25th.
I went straight away to /feed where it showed as 11:00.

I fear this is going to take more than one of your mythical coffee breaks Mark ;-(

Keep safe, Malcolm.

moderated Retain search results Tools until toggled off by user #suggestion

Hi Mark,

The search results Tools options get hidden when changed back to the default 'Any Time' and Collapse Topics & Exclude Signatures unchecked.  When testing different combinations it's a bit frustrating to have these disappear because you ended up at the default set.  If we could make these Tools either displayed or hidden purely on the use of the Tools button I think that would be more user friendly.  If the Tools button turned blue when the Tools were visible that would make it more consistent with other button options on the site too.

Thanks
Andy

moderated Weird display date on two groups #bug

Hi Mark,

On two of the groups I own the group started date on the home page displays weirdly; it's almost as if the format for it was MM-DD-YYYY at one time then it got changed to the ISO YYYY-MM-DD format but the string wasn't reset in between assignment or something, I don't know; if I hover the mouse over it, it shows the correct date in US date format.

Group AMD shows Started on 1999-12-1999, if you hover the mouse over the date, it shows "Dec 19, 1999"; similarly, group ALPS shows 1998-11-1398 and "Nov 13, 1998" hover.

Local regional date setting (US or ISO) makes no difference. Also, both of these were migrated from Yahoo Oct 2019 or whereabouts, it must had happened during that time because it has been like this since I remember.

Could you fix it at your spare time whenever?

Thanks and Cheers,
Christos

moderated Re: Disallow concurrent "special notices" and "following only" #suggestion #bug

In a variation of the original problem I outlined in this thread, some members in one of the groups I  moderate have both Special Notices only and Auto-follow Replies set. They clearly believed they would receive messages from topics they reply to, and won't. Making Auto-follow Replies subsidiary to Following Only, and disallowing the combo of Special Notices Only plus Following Only, would fix this as well.

There is another allowed out-of-synch selection, albeit this one does not result in such serious consequences. A group member can have Message Selection set to All Messages and at the same time, have Auto-Follow Replies set. This shows up as a simple "R" badge in the members list, rather than an F plus an R.

This is just as meaningless a combination as All Messages and First Message Also would be. If you're getting all messages, you don't need to ask to receive messages from topics you reply to or to receive first messages of topics. You're getting them anyway. Auto-follow replies should be subsidiary to Following Only, just as First Message Also is.

I prefer the redesign but I don’t really care how it’s done as long as it's done. Graying out works. Regardless of the text, members are confused and set themselves up with the bad combo and as a result, they get no group messages and have no idea they’re not getting them. Or owners have to go in manually and undo the combo, as I keep having to do. And most owners don’t, or won't, even have a clue this is happening. After I made the announcement about this problem to my group, and fixed everybody’s settings manually, I noticed people similarly fix their settings in other groups they belong to and where I happen to be a mod. NOBODY is, or was,  aware of this problem. I only figured it out recently, just by chance.

And yes, the ability to not follow special notices would be totally unacceptable in a disable-no-email group particularly.
