Hi Mark and everyone, Is there a way to send a file automatically every month? I poked around and couldn't find anything. I would like my group guidelines and a FAQ to go out automatically on the first of every month.

Thanks and sorry if there's a way and I just don't see it.

Do you have any plans to incorporate a relational database schema? The interface is exceptionally friendly, and being able to link tables in a database would be a big win.

Additionally, a forms creation interface that could spill into a DB would be great.

Thanks for all your work on this. Impressive.

I'm very happy about the no more "read more" if there is no more. ;)

One tweak that I think would be an improvement is to cut down on the large space between the displayed text and the "Read more" link. There seems to be more than a whole line of space there(?), plus some amount of space *after* the "Read more" link as well. This is just a bunch of space on the page. When you do click on "Read more," it fills up normally.

Hi All,

I just pushed a couple of tweaks to the sticky wiki page display. The 'Read more' link is no longer displayed if it isn't necessary. I also cut the height of the display in half, and tried to tighten up the margins a little. Please let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Mark

The new color is much better. Imho the banner could be smaller, and still be very effective. Privately, I'll send you a screen shot showing how much space on my 14" laptop is devoted to the current configuration.

Mark, What if you put the title of the wiki at the top of the display, as a link to the actual page? At least that's not promising anything, and members could click on it if they figure it out.

Mark, I like the gray much better. If you can't get rid of "Read more" when there is no more, I have a *very strong* preference for getting rid of the link altogether and displaying the entire page. That is because I already think the 13 lines is too long, so I am limiting myself to using this feature for a very small wiki page. And therefore it will always be displayed in full, making the "Read more" always a disappointing tease. Currently I am using up a whole line to tell people to "ignore the 'Read more' link because this is all there is." If that keeps up, I will probably consider the feature unusable.

Mark,

I am now using the sticky wiki for short announcements. That way, I can create a two-liner and it won't take up more than two lines in the display. Although I'd still prefer a smaller display, it is working very well for this purpose. The only problem is that it always says "read more" even if there is no more. Could this be changed so that the "read more" link appears only if there IS more?

Hi Mark!

Thank you for looking into this.

Someone in the BITX20 community took care to prefix all links with "wiki/", and that kind of inverted the behavior.

Anyway seems this was solved by redirecting now .../wiki and .../wiki/ both to .../wiki/home.

Creating a new "Link to Wiki page" includes the full relative URL of "g/<groupname>/wiki/<pagename>". Please note, that adding a simple link - not "Link to Wiki Page" - with only the page name escaped being usable as URL part also creates a working link. This is good on the one hand for getting working links in the Wiki in both cases. On the other hand it is now possible to have pages with two different styles of link URLs that could be mixed and possibly lead to problems later on, for example if the wiki would get sub-directory like features and relative links are not guaranteed to always start from "/g<groupname>/wiki/"

Best Regards

Patrick

Ok, I take it back -

I said: "I have tried resetting the links but that's not fixing them".

It does fix them, but oh man... lots of resets...

I love the ability - but... I happened to be in Groups.io last night probably about the time this was turned on. I was "playing" with a dummy sub-group, learning the ins and outs. The sticky wiki page showed up in those settings... not in my main group at that time (I checked and had cleared the cache). Now however, it's appearing that most of the wiki links are broken, especially from the sidebar. I first thought it had something to do with creating a sub-group (far fetched as that sounded but it was the only change I knew had happened at that time). I have tried resetting the links but that's not fixing them.

Help? What am I missing?

Thanks - Ginny

Hi Mark,
I love this new feature, thank you!

I'd like it to be shown all the time in every view. IMO the background doesn't need a color and it could be a bit smaller, definitely not larger. I'm using the wiki Home page FYI.

Thanks again,
Linda

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • BUGFIX: Think I fixed a relative URL issue with wikis.
  • NEW: You can specify a sticky wiki page, which will be displayed at the top of the Topics view.
  • CHANGE: Sticky topics are now displayed as 2 lines long.
  • CHANGE: Cleaned up and reformatted the wiki page view a bit.
  • BUGFIX: In the overall calendar, the Add Event dropdown had the incorrect URL for subgroups.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed a race condition involving replying to a message on the website and saving a draft, which in very rare circumstances, could result in a private message being sent to the group. Also, added code so that any reply from the website that has a subject that starts with 'Private: ' will not be sent to the group.
  • CHANGE: Hardcode netscape.net addresses as DMARC p=reject. Netscape has a misconfigured DMARC record that's causing bouncing.
  • NEW: Subgroups page when viewing a member's subscription in a main group, for bulk changes to subgroup subscriptions. And a page listing subgroups the person is not subscribed to.
  • NEW: The group home page now displays the group's reply to setting.
  • NEW: Past members view for premium/enterprise groups, showing past subscriptions.
  • NEW: Calendars now have ICalendar feeds which you can use to subscribe to them in Google Cal, Outlook, etc. This works both for individual group calendars as well as the overall calendar.
  • NEW: Export RSVP responses.
  • NEW: Subgroups now have a Usage tab under admin to view space usage. Also, in the Billing tab for a main group, there's a link to a usage page showing the storage usage for each subgroup.
  • CHANGE: For email subscription requests, try to use the message From: email address instead of the envelope from email address.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed charset encoding issue with Normalize HTML Text function. We have to force UTF-8 encoding because of some un-reversable processing of HTML entities.
  • NEW: Added popover for calendar events to see all info at a glance.
  • CHANGE: Reverted calendar behavior to only display one line per event description, instead of entire description. Had some broken behavior with multiple events.
  • BUGFIX: Revamped savedsub functionality so that if you leave a main group and then rejoin within 3 days, you also rejoin any subgroups you were on.

Have a good weekend everybody.

Mark

I'm not crazy about the color either, but I don't care too much about it. How about customizing that AND the number of lines shown?

Mark,

Any way to change the background color to white or light grey? Or for groups to customize. I can't seem to warm up to the pale green.

Thank you!

Mark,

I love this! This will make it really convenient to keep our group guidelines both easily accessible to group members AND easily changeable.

I do think it would be good for it to show up also in Messages view but don't feel strongly about that.

And I think it is too large. I tested the limits and it looks like 13 lines? For me, that's betwixt and between. It will show some our guidelines completely and skip others (unless I use it for a sort of TOC of the guidelines). I'd prefer it to be more of a one- or two-liner, along the lines of a title, and then people can click on "read more." I feel slightly more strongly about this than about it showing up in Messages view as well, but would not argue about it either way.

Thanks!!!

moderated Sticky topics, sticky wiki page

Hi All,

I've changed sticky topics so that they only show 2 lines in the Topics page. I've also added the ability in the Settings page to specify a wiki page as sticky, so that it shows up at the top of the Topics page. This will need some tweaking, and I'd appreciate your feedback:

- Right now it shows up every time you go to the Topics page. How often should we show it to someone? Once? If that, should we re-show it if the page is edited?
- Should it also show up in the Messages/Expanded messages view?
- What do you think of the size? Too big? Too small?

Thanks,
Mark

When opening the wiki with the URL https://groups.io/BITX20/wiki, relative links (that is, links to other wiki pages by name) will be wrongly expanded to a base URL of https://groups.io/BITX20/. For example, "Kits" is expanded to https://groups.io/BITX20/Kits which results in a 404 response.

I was never able to duplicate this, but I have put in a redirect that I think might take care of the problem. Please let me know if you still see this, and if you do, how to recreate it.

Thanks,
