Vacation
Hi All, I will be on vacation from Monday 4/3, back on Wednesday 4/12. During this time I will be slow(er than normal) to respond to emails, and group transfer requests may be delayed. I'll be in Europe, so expect any responses to be during those daylight hours. As usual, I will continue to monitor the site and respond to any issues during this time. Thanks, Mark

rotating sticky wickys
#suggestion
Could a set of wikis be selected to rotate as the sticky, something like every 2 days (or with a frequency that the group could set)?

If so (or if not currently), could there be a message-type specifically for that purpose? Right now, no message is sent out if a pending subscriber is deleted after 14 days. Same as with pending messages that are deleted after 14 days. Thanks, Mark

Any update to this Mark? We are proposing to transfer our group very
soon, currently aiming at doing it around Easter weekend 14/17 April when activity is traditionally low. I accept you probably don't work over Easter.... but when should we aim to set the transfer in progress to hit somewhere around then? Thanks for all your work. Re: Stopping posting of photos in the file section?
Egads yes. I havent had a recent lab posting via photo, but my Feline Thyroid group does sometimes post that way. We absolutely need to be able to put them into files.

Thanks, Mark! I am the worst user! I never looked down that far on the Send Message page to find the dropdown. ;) This is great. I'm going to start using it!

Re: beta@groups.io Digest #452
Mark, I like Shal's idea as a slight improvement, but still, the problem for me with using calendars for sending out files is the verbiage referencing "events," "start times" etc. This makes it look and feel like a kludge to use the calendar to send files in the sense that members will see it and have to remove from their brains the idea that the file is an "event." I would like the sending of a file to be information attached to the file itself, if possible, with no reference to all the calendar stuff. I know it's a lot to ask, but until the kludginess goes away, I will continue to send my group's files by hand each month. -- Messages are the sole opinion of the author. Especially the fishy ones. Re: beta@groups.io Digest #452
Rae,
Is there a way to send a file automatically every month? As J and Duane mentioned, no way to send a file, but you can use the calendar feature to send a message every month (or other intervals). I use that for the monthly guidelines/faq for my group, GMF. Mark, My suggestion would be to add an Attachment button (paperclip icon) to the compose tool for calendar events, and also the Member Notices. Then actual files could be sent, which may be helpful to folks with files that can't easily be represented as text messages (the example of a PDF with a chart in it came up recently). It would be one more step in making all the message composition tools as identical as practical. Shal https://groups.io/g/Group_Help https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum

Thanks for your reply, Mark. Understood re: DB joins. I haven't actually tried out the DB forms feature, but I expect it will be fine. Thanks for keeping this project going. It is a refreshing change from the alternatives. _Alan

Re: Configure email subject for when someone joins my mailing list

Mark, I have a question about the canned messages in general, and have had it floating around in my head for some time. Right now, all except the "message to member" types are messages that go out automatically when triggered by the appropriate event (pending member, welcome message, banned, etc.). When does the "message to member" go out? Its existence seems to imply the ability to send it out by hand to a particular member, or members, when desired, but I don't see the interface for doing that. The idea is that the current Database feature does act like a form. You specify the various fields you want, and then when adding a row, it's basically filling out a form. Or were you referring to something else? Thanks, Mark

Hi All, I've just added the ability to set a custom subject for each of the various notification messages. To do so, go into the Settings page for your group, then click the Member Notices tab at the top. Then you can edit/set custom member notices and subject lines. Please let me know if you have any questions. Thanks, Mark

There's no way to send the contents of a file directly. You can copy it into a Calendar repeating event that is sent automatically. Or use that to send a link to the files.

Rachel, You and me both. Most people here seem content to use the calendar function for this, but it does not suit my group's needs and I would love to be able to send actual files.
