That works Mark.  You might want to consider giving the group owner a choice as to the aging period.  72 hours would be more appropriate for the groups that I moderate.

This is a good idea. I've updated the system so that pending subscriptions will be deleted after 14 days, same policy as pending messages. I will turn this on next Wednesday, to give everyone time to approve old pending subs if they wish.

Very often a given individual sends/posts a message to a group where it's really "not appropriate" and, as a result, will not likely get the attention it deserves and would get if it were appropriately placed.

Very often the owner/moderator of the group where something lands actually knows where it might be better placed.  When that's the case on BC a moderator can move that message to the appropriate group and a "forwarding place holder" is left in the original location that directly shoots anyone using the web interface to the new location.

As I believe we've talked about here before, I definitely want to add the ability to move messages/topics between subgroups. I think that's doable, but I haven't had a chance to think through all the permissions issues (even if there are any). As for moving between stand-alone groups, I think that'd be a bit more challenging.

BC doesn't seem to use groups, they use forums. Since that entire site is owned by one person (or group of people) they can move things around easily. I don't see any way it could work here with so many owners. Maybe between my own groups, but it's really not necessary. If someone posts to one of my groups, but the wrong one, I lock the topic, send them a message of where it should be, then delete the original a few days later. Everyone is learning and it doesn't happen much any more.

I realize that Groups.io is "a big world" and that the following is a non-trivial request, but it works so well on BleepingComputer (BC) that I can see the general utility of this function here.

This is complicated here because there are so many groups with so many owners and there would need to be some request/permission granting mechanism for a move along with the complications related to the e-mail interface.  How one would get an email stream to "redirect" if a topic is moved would be challenging, to say the least.

Still, it's worth thinking about even if for the distant future.

There are no message delays that I know of.

I checked and the last message before this one that we saw posted from your email address was on the 12th. You might try posting from the website. Perhaps there's an issue with your email client?

In the future, these types of questions are probably best served by sending a message to support@groups.io instead of to beta@.

I checked and I was on default group policy which moderates new

I've not received any bounced message error, either. Is this something
that just started, is it an isolated event, and how to I get this
fixed?

Thanks!!!

moderated member certificates

Dave

The groups linuxham and nbems are still experiencing a rash of membership requests from what are obvious phishing sites.  These requests are easily tagged for either refusal or banning since the email addressee does not meet the stated email naming requirement for membership.  But I have to tell you this is purely a PIA.  I moved these groups from Yahoo expecting that group management would be less of a hassle.  So far my expectations have not been met.

Please institute a certificate process whereby these bogus emails are eliminated before they flood one or more groups with bogus membership requests.

Thank you.

Looks like it went a bit too far.  I'm unable to upload .doc, .xls, .xlsx, .xlsb, .wps, or .wdb files.  That's all I've checked so far.

Hmm. Well, that's not good! I just changed it and it should be fixed now.
