Link to photos or files in respective photos or files section
Hello all and apologies if asking something which has been already covered. Tried to search but did not find exactly answer to this. When a member uploads a photo or file to respective sections, is there a link available which points to the added item, to add such link to a post to the group. For example, a 'for sale' post where the picture of the item in question is added to the photos-section and a link to that is included in the post. .. Erik

Login issues with IE11
Mark,
I have several users of my groups that are complaining about not being able to log in using Internet Explorer 11. Have there been any recent changes that you know of that could have caused that?

Photo Album Sorting

Thanks, J. I was hoping there was a simple way of unplugging it from one thread before anyone had a chance to reply to it and plugging it into the correct thread, but I see that the problem is it has already gone out by email. My inclination is to just leave it alone and let it die out on it's own.

Also, you'll find that renaming/splitting is pretty ineffective anyway if some people use email to respond in your group. Those people will continue to respond via the original email thread and that will essentially two branches of the same thread, despite the intention to have two distinct threads. It's another reason I don't rename or split any more. If people go off-topic in my group now, I just tell them to start a new thread. And I might put them on moderated status to prevent them from continuing with off-topic posts in the current thread. Messages are the sole opinion of the author. Especially the fishy ones. You can split the thread at his message and create a new thread. (If there already any messages after his, you will have to then split those back off and merge them with the original thread.) But be aware that if you rename or split any thread, you will be unable to successfully lock or moderate it later, since the renaming creates a loophole through email messages still floating around. For that reason, I never split, merge, or rename threads any more. (This might be on Mark's todo list to fix. I'm unsure of the status.) Messages are the sole opinion of the author. Moving a message to a different topic
Members are so creative at messing up. I've had a member reply to a previous message, however he did not write it on the message he intended to tie it to. So now I have a message that needs to be moved to a different topic. Is there a way to do this, or should I just delete it and have him resend?

I don't think so. As Mark explained it in one of the prior threads,I did some web searching on Elasticsearch to see if I could find a work-around. Alas, I didn't. From what I saw it seems that the standard evaluator for both the content index and the search queries converts words into their roots. There are hints that Mark might be able to change this behavior by making different calls to Elasticsearch, but Elasticsearch is available in many different packages, from different parties, and I don't know which one he is using. In a product I looked at one of the query functions exposes a "simplified" query language that users could put in their search strings. But its syntax seemed a bit odd, and even with that I'm not sure how one would express an exact match (quotes merely serve to group a phrase - these words in this order). I tried that too, at first I thought that it worked when you put a string in quotes, but it didn’t. It sure would be nice if this could be improved.

Groups.io is using some software for searches that relies on some assumptions about language and cuts corners as a result. Fixing this may be on the todo list now, but I'm not sure. Even putting the string in quotes does not work - for example, if you do a search in this group on "disabled" you will also get "disable", "disability," etc. This is a particular nuisance in our group, where we would like to be able to search on precise medical terms and instead get all sorts of approximations. I agree with this. Any group that uses technical terms needs the ability to search for precise wording. Would it also be possible to include a space after the word but inside the quote to avoid lengthened versions of a term? For example, something like "link " to avoid finding 'linked'.

Hi all,
Is there a way to search for an exact match? I cannot find it. Searching for something in a couple of thousands of mails is terrible now, unless I do something wrong. When I search for a word or string I get everything that has only a part of the word or string in it, while I just want to search for a specific word. I get a lot of complaints about this in my group.

To add a few details that might help understand the situation. This is a group of well over 2,000 members, with a message archive of well over 85,000 messages, reaching back to onelist in 1998. Mark talked previously about Yahoo imposing a limit on the number

Yes, moderating the group might help, but I was still trying to deal with people trying to manually subscribe during the automated process. I believe much of this impatience was because people had gotten the move message and felt they needed to do something.
If they hadn't gotten the message until the membership was fully moved and the messages populated, that would avoid some problems from the membership, and wouldn't hurt anything that I could see. Maybe others have different circumstances that would require
different handling. In this case I suspect waiting on sending the message as avoiding problems for most people.

of their age and spirit, these are the ones who share the most history with others and who bring a taste of reality to the group. Their computer expertise runs the entire spectrum, but I have to create detailed instructions to do things and some still have
problems (as I've noted on GroupManagersForum). When I mentioned the impending move, one experienced member wished me luck in herding the cats. There was more truth to that than I had hoped.
