Re: FW: System still inverts moderator's pasted-in signature block
Hi All, I have located and fixed the bug that caused Jennifer's email to contain screwed up characters. It had to do with the Normalize HTML Emails function. Jennifer, I still haven't been able to track down the bug you're seeing with reversed pasted snippets. I looked at message 14101, and the signature is in the correct order. I assume that means you manually re-ordered it before sending? Next time this happens, please leave the message as is (assuming you're composing a message), so that it will be in drafts, and let me know, and I'll investigate some more. And if anyone else sees this, please let me know. Thanks, Mark

Linda, hearing how it was received by others is a big part of why I wanted to put it out on beta. I'd already noticed, for example, that the weird symbols don't appear on my iPhone's mail program, but do appear on my mac using gmail through safari. Thanks for the data point.

Hi,
Just for the record, the emailed version of Jennifer's message came through to my Window's Mail just as intended - no diacritical marks or weird characters. Linda

If you haven't already, I'd report this to support@groups.io so it will be in the bug queue. There have been a few other odd things showing up and this may be related.

Re: FW: System still inverts moderator's pasted-in signature block
Jennifer and all, I don't know the answer to your question, but am going to take it in another direction. I am pasting here what came through in the email version of your message. I've been having this problem with certain posters in my group but thought it had to do with my settings ("force HTML" or some other setting) and was getting my ducks lined up to send a cogent bug report to Mark. But now I see it happening here, too. So here is what I just received in email, copied and pasted. The problem, as Shal explained in my conversation on GMF about this, is that spaces are being replaced by "Latin Capital Letter A with Circumflex", aka U+00C2: Earlier today I was moderating a message on one of my groups and attempted to add a signature block as required by that group’s ground rules. I went to the Message archive online and found a signature block on a message previously sent by this member (from 2011). It was in the following order, each item on a different line:  (a) Member name; (b) Professional role, (c) Organization, (d) Location, (e) web address – url.  BUT, when I pasted it into the current message, the order was instantly and entirely reversed: e,d,c,b,a.  Last time it happened, I had copied the signature block from an email sitting in my Outlook folder on my laptop. This time I was “in†Groups.io online. -- Messages are the sole opinion of the author. FW: System still inverts moderator's pasted-in signature block
Earlier today I was moderating a message on one of my groups and attempted to add a signature block as required by that group’s ground rules. This time I was “in” Groups.io online. I / we have reported this issue before. Did Mark ever try to do anything about it? (Sorry if I sound ignorant; I don’t follow all Beta postings every day – although I do try to skim the topic headings in each digest I receive ). The message in question was in the WFDRoundtable group, message # 14101 which I approved at 12:05 today. It was sent by the member on March 15. Cordially,

Lock or moderate topic after x number of posts
#suggestion
It's now possible to lock or moderate a topic after a certain number of days. It would be nice if we could also choose to do those after x number of posts. It's currently impractical to rename or split a topic, because people keep responding to both topics by email and think they're staying in the same conversation, which used to cause frequent chaos in my group. So I simply don't rename or split threads any more. But if an extremely long topic could be automatically locked, that would often be very helpful, and then a new topic could be started. Of course, any topic can be locked by hand; but an a priori announcement informing members that they are locked automatically after a certain number of posts would avoid having to explain it each time. Messages are the sole opinion of the author. Especially the fishy ones. I wish I could shut up, but I can't, and I won't. - Desmond Tutu

As I believe we've talked about here before, I definitely want to add the ability to move messages/topics between subgroups. I think that's doable, but I haven't had a chance to think through all the permissions issues (even if there are any). As for moving between stand-alone groups, I think that'd be a bit more challenging. Thanks, Mark

Re: Ability to move a message from one group to another

BC doesn't seem to use groups, they use forums. Since that entire site is owned by one person (or group of people) they can move things around easily. I don't see any way it could work here with so many owners. Maybe between my own groups, but it's really not necessary. If someone posts to one of my groups, but the wrong one, I lock the topic, send them a message of where it should be, then delete the original a few days later. Everyone is learning and it doesn't happen much any more.
