moderated Re: Moderated thread

From *my* view, we didn't even HAVE moderated threads in yahoo, or locked threads, for that matter! What a PITA! You could tell everyone a thread is locked and they just wouldn't stop.

I heard something on NPR the other day, a report on some research about how in general, people tend to appreciate good things for less time than they are upset about bad things. You get something shiny and new, and you're all excited about it for a day or whatever, and then it quickly wears off and you're already taking it for the status quo and have ceased to appreciate it. But when something bad happens, you can complain about it for a long time! I think this is the phenomenon happening with us and groups.io. I try to keep in mind, whenever (just for example;) I'm super-annoyed by that ^&*(%$ frigging Topics View that comes up every time, that I'm still a lot better off than I was with yahoo!

Thanks but of course, from my view, he didnt take the correction far enough.

Well, I am home, and got it done, but if I had been on vacation, would have had no choice but to unmoderate the thread.  Not the end of the world, I could just close it of course.  All this is just a contribution to the "irritation" factor.

Ro,

BTW, this means all my other owners/moderators have to go change
THEIR settings.
Or you could do it for them.

But I wouldn't as it is an individual preference. I'm like J, I keep myself on moderation in all the groups I own or moderate - even those where most members are not moderated.

The one time you might want to do it on behalf of a moderator is when you first promote them. Ok, two times: also if the moderator asks you to do it for them (perhaps the mod is email-only or does not have permission to set member subscription options).

Oh, I forgot to go check a digest.

Maybe it IS a bug...
Yes, I would report that as a bug. The context is of a specific message so that link ought not (IMO) be a link to the top of the topic.

I think that's something that got fixed a while back for individual messages, so maybe just an oversight that it didn't get fixed for digests.

I understand, but dont agree that an owner/moderater should be included in moderation by default.  I will never agree this is a good thing.  it MY opinion, not worth much prolly, that moderation of an owner/moderation should have to be specifically chosen, and not defaulted to.   In short, override moderation should be the default for owners/moderators.

Nope.

Moderation works for owners and moderators exactly the same as it does
for Members. The only difference being that Owners (and mods with the
right permissions) can change who has a moderation override. As J said,
you probably want to override moderation for yourself.

 > I have scrolled settings and cant find where this is

It isn't a group setting, it is per person. The override settings are in
the Posting Privileges option, at the bottom of each member's Membership
page (click on your row in your group's Members list).

Just set yourself to "override not moderated" and you'll be fine.

BTW, I checked out your moderated thread, and noticed that you're deleting (or planning on deleting) some messages from it. If you do that, it creates a loophole into which people can still respond without moderation, by answering the deleted message via email. I never delete messages any more since it removes the ability to successfully moderate (or, for that matter, lock) a thread.
