That's the work-around that I'm currently using, and it works, if you know html and are willing to edit in source code mode.

If course, if you ever delete or move the image at the source, it leaves a dead link in your Member Notice.

moderated Re: Member receiving msgs from non-subscribed groups #bug

Ken,

A member reports that this week he’s received several emails from
groups to which he’s not subscribed
Have him look in the message footer, next to the Unsubscribe link. That shows the email address to which that message was sent.

If it shows his address, then most likely he is subscribed to the group in question, because this can't happen by any kind of forwarding or misdirection of the message.

If it shows an unknown address then a detailed look at the message's header fields (specifically the chain of Received and maybe X-Received fields) may reveal how the message ended up in his Inbox.

Is there a systemic bug going on here?
Maybe. There were a bunch of reports in GMF of AOL users receiving misdirected groups.io messages, not recently though.

Hi Mark,

A minor UI one, in the wiki EditPage screen, the "Verify Save"/"Very delete" dialog has the Yes & Cancel button placement and color reversed.

I assume that forwarding is not what’s happening in your case.
No.  I mean, Yes.
I mean, forwarding is not what's happening to him.  :-)

Strange indeed.

That’s very weird. I know that sometimes, people forward me emails from other cats groups if they think I can offer insight into the cat’s illness. But I assume that forwarding is not what’s happening in your case.

Is there a systemic bug going on here?

it would be handy to be able to put images in Member Notices, as we already can for regular messages.

I have not given thorough consideration as to how to manage the associated storage.

Thanks for your consideration,

I have changed a few settings and found it all seems to be good Mark. In the course of my checking, you must have been changing the code because my comments about 'all day' and the date format got fixed in the course of my checks.

I guess you can take a coffee break and move on to the next problem :-)

Thanks, Malcolm.

On a very quick look, it seems good. I have two comments though ...

1. for 'all day' events, you are showing the time (as 00:00) which wasn't shown before and probably should not be showing now.

2. the new coding still ignores my preference setting for the date display. This is unchanged from before so may be intended? If it is intended, I will submit it as a separate bug :-)

Hi Mark,

when switching between the Gallery and List views of RSVP responders, the display always reverts to being sorted by name. It would be nice if the sort order selected on one view could be maintained when switching to the other.

Thanks

I've had a look - seems to be ok now, thanks, I am seeing correct times on feed.

But there is an issue over 'all day' events - which in many ways - goes beyond this topic.

For an event in 'my' time zone it shows - as Malcolm says - with a time of 00:00 (midnight), e.g "Feb 20, 2021 00:00  all day         All day test" . But setting my zone to -3 hours relatively  (so UTC-3 for an event set up on UTC), I see "Feb 19, 2021 21:00  all day         All day test"

This goes to the basics of what an 'all day' event is: is it something which is 'midnight to midnight' on local time, in some time zone (and which will be - correctly - some other times in a different zone, and spread over two days) or is it something that is 'time less' - that is happening whenever it that date, regardless of what the time is, or what the time zone is (and so will be for a duration (over the full range of zones, from UTC-11 to UTC+14) of 51 hours.

Observations: for anywhere observing Daylight Saving Time, annually they have a day of 25  hours, and another of 23 hours. And, for anyone born sufficiently close to midnight, their birthday (strictly, based on birth time) will change with time zone,

As I said - beyond this topic.

moderated Enable calendar events to be hidden #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

it would be helpful to be able to set up calendar events in advance but hide them from view (except to Mods and the event creator) until details are ready to be published to other members.  A simple check-box option on the event details page would suffice. A more flexible approach could be to specify a date range during which the event is visible, or specify a number of days prior to the event at which it becomes visible.

Andy

moderated Re: Notify by email when RSVP status changes #suggestion

Hi Mark,

following on from above, if someone subsequently changes their mind a second time and changes their RSVP status back to Will Attend, no email notification is sent.  However, if they have changed their mind a second time and change their RSVP status to Will Attend and get placed on a waitlist, no notification email is sent to say they are on the waitlist but a notification is sent if a place becomes available and they are added to the event.

It leaves people a bit confused as to whether they have actually given up their place or if they have a place on an event at times.

Andy

moderated Notify by email when RSVP status changes #suggestion

Hi Mark,

I have found that if someone RSVPs Will Attend for an event, they receive an email notification confirming they have a place. However, if they subsequently update their RSVP status to say Will Not Attend, no email notification is sent. It would be helpful if responses were consistent and email notifications were sent in both cases.

Thanks
Andy
