This is probably the best place to suggest features so that Mark will see them.  As to when it might happen, if at all, some items have been on the TODO list for over 3 years, so it probably depends on urgency as well as extent of programming.

Is there any chance of this happening? Is there a better way to log feature requests?

Thanks,

Hallo Toby,
"It" does that already.  If I do Members/ [sort the way I want]/ Download. The data appears on my browser screen as memberlist.csv.  All I then need to do is do a Save. Ctrl-S and choose where to put it.

Use your spreadsheet program to open that and it should quickly convert that to a spreadsheet, which you can Save As memberlist.ods or whatever.

I tried a Click in the Browser and Drag to a spreadsheet but that didn't work.
What does work slickly (without having to save the memberlist.csv) is:
in the browser window, do a Select All, do a Copy ;
go to the spreadsheet and do a Paste, which will start the Import process.,

Mark thought of everything.

Tony

Toby,

Suggest that the button generate a file with a .csv extension and send that with the headers as a download so that users get a file they can open in a spreadsheet program easily.

I prefer it as it is. Usually I copy/paste it into Excel
o In the browser window select all then copy (Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C)
o In the Excel window paste (Ctrl+V)

Being forced to download and open a .csv file seems like more steps to me. If I want to save the .csv file instead of copy/paste it is simple to use the browser's Save As command to write the window to a file.

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • CHANGE: For the Yahoo group transfer process, enable deleting of the transfer request after the transfer has been completed, so that it can be resubmitted in cases where Yahoo's Files or Photos weren't working at the time of the original transfer.
  • CHANGE: For enterprise groups, remove Sign Up link in header.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed bounce probe emails to display proper group names with enterprise groups.
  • CHANGE: Allow style attributes on h1..h5 when displaying html messages and wiki pages.
  • CHANGE: Wording/collapse tweaks to the user sidebar.
  • INTERNAL: Streamlined some of the process of getting an SSL cert for new enterprise groups.
  • CHANGE: In the post to sub view, also show Pending Subscription notices in the notices selector.
  • CHANGE: When viewing a member's delivery history, check the successful delivery cache for a more recent successful delivery than what's in the database.
  • NEW: The edit subject page for messages without tags sent to groups that require them has been reformatted, with a selector to select existing tags.
  • NEW: Added Messages -> Attachments -> Moderate to group settings, to moderate messages with attachments.
  • CHANGE: In a table, don't show a date or time field if it has not been set (ie if a date or time column has been added, and there are existing rows).
  • BUGFIX: Muting a hashtag manually didn't work.
  • CHANGE: Changing your password now displays a proper 'your password has been changed message' and you're redirected to the home page.

Have a good weekend everybody.

moderated Yahoo screwup today

Hello,

It looks like today between around noon and at least until around 7pm (and maybe later), when we would send messages to Yahoo accounts, they would sometimes return errors saying that those accounts didn't exist (even though the accounts do exist). That triggers us to immediately bounce those users.

I have gone through and unbounced all Yahoo users who bounced today. I have also changed the algorithm so that we treat an account doesn't exist error as a soft bounce, not a hard bounce. That means we won't immediately bounce those accounts.

You may notice an extra set of activity log messages around some unbounced users. That was my screwup. I try not to do anything involving the database when I'm a bit tired, but I thought this was an emergency....

Thanks,
Mark

That worked! (Except the extension is .CSV) I was trying to use Share to get the data into something and, of course, all that transfers is the URI.
I had no luck with Sheets since the downloaded file was marked as a text/doc file and Android would not open it with Sheets.
Sheets opened the .csv file just fine on my device. Both Sheets and Excel were offered as apps to open it.

I cannot find a way of copying the export display into either Google Sheets or Excel on Android.

In Chrome if you touch the menu (three dots vertical, to the right of the address bar) you can then select Download (the middle icon at the top of the menu). What you do from there I'm not sure, as I don't use Google Sheets or Excel on Android, but at least you now have it in a file.

There's probably an equivalent action in other browsers to save the page in in a file.

It has always worked fine for me unless I click on the group name on the overview page.  No big deal for me because I use Topics most of the time anyway.  I've been wondering if this is a bug or it just never got coded into that part of the display when 'remember' was added.

Never works for me and never has. This has been a thorn in my side for years, but I put up with it as one of the few downsides of Groups.io. I tried my best to get Mark to implement it but eventually gave up. I’m glad it’s now bothering others, becsuse hopefully, something can be done about it.

Fooled me. It tracks you current preference (as the side Messages button does). So it effectively copies your current choice as you move from group to group.

I tend to keep multiple tabs open, so I hadn't noticed that behavior. Each tab keeps its own choice, thank goodness.

Bruce,

-- As a cookie that would be reset with each selection from the message display pull-down menu (and lost if you delete your browser cookies).

I believe that's what is implemented now. The selection is sticky per-group and per-browser.

Works fine for me, but I seldom go to a group through the Groups.io home page. Usually I use the Your Groups droplist and that doesn't reset the choice. Nor do I delete cookies regularly.

Hi Bruce,
Thanks for asking.  Here are my thoughts.

Best -- As a subscription preference, so a member could have a different preference from group to group.

Good -- As a member preference...this would apply to all groups the member has joined.

Maybe -- Cookies, I'm not sure cookies would be a good solution if you use various devices and operating systems.  But would let ask the developers if this would work across platform and consider the level of effort.

Others may have a different opinion and the development effort to implement the options may determine which one is justified.

This has been discussed in older threads but the current Export button just displays the data in CSV format in the browser.
