In doing some testing today, I noticed that I seem to no longer receive a pending subscription notification until the requesting member has confirmed. Is this new? I used to get members with NC.

(Mark, I can send you the details privately if need be. The pending member/email address in question actually has, and had, a groups.io account, yet received a confirmation email as if they had no account. Furthermore, I did not receive any notice of their subscription request, either in email or in the pending queue, until they had confirmed.)

I can't recall any changes to the pending sub stuff in awhile. If you send me the details off-list, I can look into it. No data was lost during the datacenter downtime on Friday.

Thanks,

We support that already. For the second Monday, for example, click on a second Monday of a month to create an event, then click Event Repeats. Select Monthly for Repeats. The Summary should say 'Monthly on the Second Monday'.

If the account you're trying to change to has no subscriptions or is only subscribed to updates@, we treat it like that account didn't exist.

There are also, as LeeAnne says, the people who can't figure out how to create their auto-sig, and the auto-sig is now *required* in my group and must contain certain information in my group. I'm sure there are many more scenarios.

I know but it's hard to find. More intuitive to find this option to member profile.

I would like to be able to set a recurring event on a day on a particular week of a month. For example, every first (or second or third or fourth) Monday ( or Tuesday or Wednesday, etc.). I would also like to be able to copy an event and drop it on a new day/date with the new date automatically changed in the new event (the time of day would likely remain the same).

moderated Re: Left-hand Menu Request

Duane

If I remember correctly, it didn't originally drop down automatically.  It was implemented so folks could save a click when there was something needing attention. I can see where it would be inconvenient for those groups that wait for information before approval.  Maybe this could be made an option that could be set by subscription/moderator or group?

I agree that the "auto expansion" if there is anything pending can really be a pain. Not everything can be addressed immediately if you are waiting on people replying to subscription questions, or other clarifications. Just a "flag" by the Admin button rather than forcing the drop-down would be so much nicer and easier.

Jean, et al,

I think I've said this before, but if not, let me be clear, any date format changes will be user specifiable.

I will make this change, but I don't know when it will happen.

Topic has been beaten, I will not approve any more messages on it.

Thanks,
Mark

I don't know what you mean by "newcomers". Some of us have been on Groups.io
almost from the beginning, and find the illogical MMDDYY format confusing. If
there is no choice, it should be the logical international format that should
confuse nobody. Failing that DDMMYY is used by most of the world and therefore
a better choice than MMDDYY (and more logical). Another alternative that should
be universally acceptable is to put the month in words (or three letter
abbreviations), although this is not as easily used for sorting as the
international format is..

Sue,

However I would happily accept yyyy/mm/dd as a universal compromise,
ISO standard 8601 would be YYYY-MM-DD (hyphens, not slashes). Be that as it may...

not least because my group does have members from various countries
including the USA.
A date/time format selection, like the timezone selection, I imagine will end up being a personal selection in one's account. With a default set by the first group you join, if you join one before setting the option in your account (e.g. you accept an email invitation, or are transferred in from Yahoo, etc.).

I don't know, but I wouldn't expect a site-wide change of format before the account option.

Not to belabor the issue, but, as you said, we want to see and understand that with which we have been familiar all our lives. That is why I feel strongly that the date format should be set optionally at the user or group level or, if that is not feasible, be left as it currently is to avoid confusing our members.

Jean,

I am in the UK and therefore, obviously, would prefer the date to be
dd/mm/yyyy. Equally I understand that those in the USA would prefer
mm/dd/yyyy. And of course, Mark being American would naturally create the
date format that he is familiar with. That is fully understood. However
Groups io is growing and becoming international and so I think it is not
surprising that people are asking the question about other date formats.
It is not a question of seniority at Groups io (my group has also been here
for two years), I think that is irrelevant. It is a question of being able
to see and instantly understand something we have known all our lives.
However I would happily accept yyyy/mm/dd as a universal compromise, not
least because my group does have members from various countries including
the USA.

Sue

I feel just as strongly that it should remain as is if it cannot be set
optionally at the group or individual level. We do not believe our members
should be subjected to confusion to accommodate newcomers.
