Re: Fixed Width Formatting
Bruce,
It's not just the width of the characters. By default, browsers collapse multiple spaces into a single space unless you use the HTML nbsp character. Oops. I forgot that. So yes, something more than just a monospaced font selection is required. My real objection to <pre> is the boxed style it has here. But maybe a simpler style could be used in the particular case of displaying a text/plain message monospaced. The question of word-wrap could be left to the sender, as Alexis suggests. /"\ \ / ASCII Ribbon Campaign X Against HTML Mail / \

Could we please have a bit of consistency in the allowable operations shown on the Members' (type) lists so we could work with them consistently?

Re: "Down for maintenance" -- time to grow up...
Mark,
Astounding. I thought he was new in 2011, long after your time...?
I'd forgotten (haven't seen it in a while). So yes, putting at least the logo on it was needed.

I would venture that it is a group owner's responsibility to be aware, which means paying attention to the beta and GMF topics. That then allows the owner(s) to warn their members. I've done this since starting a Groups.io group (I now manage several) and there's never been a problem. Likewise there is a status page (http://status.groups.io/) for problem times, and again I believe that it's a group owner's responsibility to be aware and update their members.

And, my people just love the cats when there is downtime... many have commented that yes, there is frustration when they find that Groups.io might be down (which, thanks to Mark happens very infrequently), the cats just bring a grin and ease the antsies. Just my 2 cents.... Ginny

Re: Export group
I think there was an error with your request. It looks like there’s a limit I didn’t know about for the size of files uploaded to S3, and your archive was bigger than that. Unfortunately I probably won’t be able to fix it until Monday. Thanks, Mark

fair enough, but as this is already done when viewing the source code, it should just be a case of adding that existing coding elsewhere

Export group
Hi All, I just pushed a new Export Group function to the site, accessible from the Group Settings page, replacing the archive export. You can now export all parts of your group (and subgroups), in a handy zip file. The one thing I'm not yet exporting are any wiki page images, but that'll happen. Also, I may tweak some of the json bits, especially around who uploaded what, to make things more clear. Please let me know if you see anything buggy. Thanks, Mark

Also my doing. :-) I had been meaning to update the maintenance page. It didn't even have the Groups.io logo. So, I've made it a bit more serious, but it still has a link to the cats. Thanks, Mark

If I create this on the website then the 'column' alignment disappears due to the width of each character. But creating it, like i have now using thunderbird, set to plain text, is appears fine. It's not just the width of the characters. By default, browsers collapse multiple spaces into a single space unless you use the HTML nbsp character. Throw in proportional fonts and it's rare that things will line up. Overcoming this will require both bracketing the desired text in <PRE> tags and using a monospaced font (like Consolas or Courier). Bruce

Re: "Down for maintenance" -- time to grow up...
In this particular case the downtime was relatively short (but during
daytime in the UK) that most would not even have been aware of it. Longer time outages should maybe be given more publicity but I am not sure a blanket posting to all groups would really help. My only gripe with the downtime announcements is that they should be given directly in UTC rather than USA Pacific time (UTC-8) when we have to do a mental calculation in our heads to work out when it is. As for cats, I had not even noticed them in my plain text emails... Dave On 11 May 2018 at 1:55, Chris Jones via Groups.Io wrote: Indeed it was, but to a limited audience on beta. True for free groups, but I'm not sure that you can say that about "paid - for" ones. Chris
