User and group export updates
Hi All, For user exports, we now export user and subscription data, in user.json and subscriptions.json, respectively. We also now export any profile photos we have of you. For group exports, we now export group data, in group.json. We also export the cover photo, if there is one. Also, activity log lines are now time stamped. Please let me know if you see anything astray. Thanks, Mark

Currently when two accounts are merged, the 'old' user record is deleted from the database, but all references to that user are kept in the system (which is fine, it's designed to handle references to non-existent user records). I will need to set up some sort of aliasing system. Mark

Arno, Download works well. Extraction of messages ends up as .mbox. I know it is a UNIX type but have to find out how to open it to see indivdual messages. You want to import it into a mail reading program like Thunderbird, but I'm not sure which application would be easiest to use. As much as I like Thunderbird in other respects, Thunderbird's developers seem to think that importing mbox files ought to be as obscurely documented as practical. Though trivial to do once you figure out where to create a folder to copy the mbox file(s) into. Hint: the Import command is the wrong first step: it doesn't include mbox files as a supported file type. Shal

Re: "File uploaded" and "Photo uploaded" owner notification
Scott,
the notification feature which you find in your supscription is optional. You have various norifications with little squares in front of them: ---- Notifications
Email when there are messages needing approval. Email when there are members needing approval. Email when a member joins/leaves this group. Email when group storage limits are reached. Email when someone creates or deletes a subgroup. Email when someone reports a message. Email when someone uploads a photo Email when someone uploads a file/database ---- So if you don´t check them no notification goes out. Victoria

No this would be bad because in some groups there are more files and photos than messages.

What about when someone uploads a new album with one hundred photos ? You definitely do not want one hundred notification messages. I would not object to messages for files and photos if the group owner could have the option to turn them off. --------------------------------------------

Re: Account export
It might be sensible to add a section in the exported information for the user's account details. I'm thinking of information such as the e-mail address, aliases, settings such as personal name, preferences for each group. All of those might be considered part of what the GDPR considers personal information: "your" data. The download itself worked well when I tried it. (Aside: not all messages in my .mbox file are usable in a text editor, because they were imported from Yahoo! Groups where they were given Content-Transfer-Encoding: base64.) - Mark (not the Mark, this one's someone else)

Exporting for Closed Accounts
Many of the groups I belong to here are from accounts migrated from Yahoo. As part of my migration, I also took the opportunity to rid myself of Yahoo email addresses and ended up combining my groups into one non-Yahoo email address account. The result of this is that a lot of my migrated content is no longer associated with my account.
I can determine the posterid numbers for posts that were made on Yahoo. It seems that the posterid is the same across all groups. Is there a way that I could also export data based on posterid? I am not sure if / how that could happen. Perhaps the issue really is whether or not I can reclaim an account that I closed and combine it into my current account. -- Gerald

Mark,
Splitting Account Messages by Group Options Since I belong to many groups, the full account download is quite large. It is also very tedious to sort through the messages for a specific group. For these reasons, it would be nice if there were a group specific option to do the export. As an alternate solution, the messages could be split out by group in the full account download. -- Gerald

It would also, and maybe more importantly, give them to option to reject inappropriate material (not that anyone would ever do that 😊 ).

Thinking about this a little more brought me to the point where I realised that there might be some benefit in both File and Photo uploads having to pass through (optional) Moderation, so that Group managers
could put the material in the optimum location depending on what it actually is, or determine if it deserves a new Folder / Album in its own right, and if so what the title / name ought to be.

Chris,
A Notification about a File upload is available as an option to whoever uploads the file; I don't think there is a Moderator - level option to force a notification, though.
Exactly. Example: Files are uploaded by whoever, but unless the notification is checked no one gets the message. That´s not always problem-free.
Photo uploading without notification can be even more inconvenient.
Yes, that´s what I mean.

It would help eliminate the infuriating randomness that can easily arise, although it might be a big ask from Mark's point of view. Chris

suggestions for changes in the activity log
Hi,
I. It would be convenient to have a “membership (or subscription) activity” that only shows subscription histories of all members chronologically with dates (applied for membership, joined group, subscribed, left group, changed email, etc) instead of an all inclusive “member activity” where everything members do (including moderators) is listed. A search for certain activities is
II. “Moderator activity” in my opinion should be restrained to subscription matters only, meaning that here the activities of a moderator relating to members should be listed. They should not be mixed up with “web activities” which are the ones a moderator does like file uploading, changing or deleting files, photos, etc..
III. For the latter a feature called “web activities” would be extremely convenient. Here we would see all the just mentioned activites undertaken by moderators concerning files, photos, databases and others.
Just a suggestion, very appreciated if practicable…..
Thanks

There appears to be no corresponding option available for notification of Photo uploads. If you are suggesting a Owner / Moderator settable "forced" notification than I think I would probably agree with you. Chris

"File uploaded" and "Photo uploaded" owner notification
Hi,
I would really appreciate an option that triggers a notification to group owners and moderators each time a file or a photo is uploaded. Is it possible to have this programmed? Victoria
