Is there any way to beg and plead for the addition of functionality in Groups.io?  Specifically, that when I click on "Approve and Unmoderate" from a subgroup it will unmoderate an address in the main group?  For the user that would be a much more straightforward solution.

Thanks for everyone's' help and comments.

ps ‘Simple’ streamlining but extremely value-adding.

None of the above should be considered as a criticism of you, as that's not the intent.

ps by ‘difficult navigation when the thread is old,’ I mean the cumbersome (time-consuming, frustrating) back-and-forth required when the thread is several pages down in the chrono list.

Brian, I’m with you (more than I can say) but let’s please not rehash the entire crazy thread from before! I am only asking for editing capability. I will only add here a statement of the obvious: the functionality (and permission) already exists but is currently a humongous PITA to get to, especially given the inconvenient navigation back and forth that’s required to do all the steps (moderate, unlock, edit, relock) when the thread is old.

I’m not going to argue here for posting ability as well and then shield mg eyes from the deluge of ‘why would anybody want to post to a locked topic’ messages again, even though the same arguments in favor of allowing it apply. My request is limited to the simple scope of just editing. 😊

some email applications strip out images and attach them. We’ve also found instances where imbedded images get stripped (the dreaded X broken image icon shows up) and are gone forever. It seems that imbedded images and email, are about as reliable as the olden day’s of win 3.1 reliability talking to modems. A box of chocolates 🍫

Mark,

I'm starting a new thread for this because IIRC the old one, or ones, got hopelessly sidetracked.

This is now a *desperate plea* to allow moderators to edit messages in a locked topic. Not to post in them, necessarily (although I would not object to that either). Just to be able to edit, say, even *one word* of *one message* in a locked topic without moderating the topic so that you can unlock it first so that you can edit the message and then unlocking it. This is a GIANT PITA and it happens at least once a week.

Thanks for considering relaxing the lock function to at least that minimal extent!

Linda,
You just solved my issue with the "insert" icon. Thank you!
So....I tried to center, which looked good for the send, but showed up on the left margin, probably what you've been getting.
Have you tried putting a few tabs characters in front of your images instead of using the center function? Just a thought, but I'm sure this is not what your looking for....
Thanks again!
Rex

I've tried composing with email and web, pasting or dragging a .jpg between text. The received message, email or web, has the image at the bottom of the message as an attachment.
If others are making this happen.....?

Ah; I thought it was just me that experienced that when trying to put things together for GMF wiki pages! It is a bit of a pain; I have found a sort of solution but it tends to be a bit hit and miss until it eventually works; too hit and miss to try to describe here.

I would also pprecitate a proper solution.

I insert images all the time in the body of the text on the group site.  I click where I want my image to go and then click on the "insert icon" symbol and the picture shows up there.  My issue is that I cannot get the picture to center.  I click on the picture and hit the center symbol, the picture moves to the center, but then when it posts it is right justified in both the e-mail and the group message page.

Mark,

This is not meant to be as argumentative as it may sound, but the ability to use the * wildcard would not be considered regex capability by anyone familiar with regular expressions.

Wildcarding is supported in many contexts where regular expressions are not.  Until or unless something more akin to full regular expression syntax were to be supported I'd avoid making any reference to regular expressions as part of the Groups.io search.

It's useful to know that this is the extent of what is supported, and I thank you for saying so.

Are you creating the message w/ your email application or thru the io web interface?

Are you speaking of finding the pic being attached (rather than embedded) when you (and members) receive the mirrored email from the group? Or when the message is composed?

I believe there is an issue with subgroups and the Slack integration, specifically the use of subdomains and OAUTH, as you've noticed. I haven't had a chance to investigate. The Slack integration is not a popular feature, so I haven't prioritized fixing that aspect of it.

If regular expressions are actually supported, it would be really helpful to know what flavor/syntax (see: https://regex101.com/) is required.

I believe that * works. I now don't think I have it set up for any other regex queries. Regex queries are apparently very resource intensive, and I'm seeing that a bit with the limited * searches that people are doing.

I put this here since Mark may see it and be able to answer the question easily and quickly.

Better advanced search is on the TODO, but I'm not sure when I will get to it. It's below my two current (and delayed...) main priorities, the ability for group owners to charge subscriptions, and an iOS/Android app.

Thanks,
Mark
