p.s. I won't be responding further here to comments by people who are not yet familiar with the group guidelines feature. I assume Mark will either accept the suggestion about the sticky, or he won't. It's a simple request and doesn't really require a conversation.

The group guideline feature was created, by request, specifically to avoid having to use the calendar to send out the monthly notice. The request here is to make the message/topic a sticky. It is already being sent out monthly by option.

What do you mean by make it a sticky? Isn't this just a single notice with a setting to send it out monthly?

(Before we get into another "just be a better moderator and you won't need to feature" debate, let's remember what Mark said about arguing against suggested features. And let's keep in mind, preemptively, that it's easy to add the feature and it would provide a not insignificant modicum of convenience. So there. :)

moderated Change default calendar view from the Feed page to list view on a mobile device #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

the changelog on 9/3/19 confirmed that list view was the default for calendars on a mobile device.  I've noticed that if the calendar is selected when displaying the feed page on a mobile, it appears in the monthly grid format.  Can we change this to list view so it is consistent with calendar displays from within a group?

Thanks,
Andy

Since the actual intent behind those deletions is to prevent (new) members from accessing (old) messages, perhaps the easier ask would be for a setting of the Visibility option which makes messages visible to moderators/owners only.
I have a vague memory of this coming up before, since it is an available Y!Group setting, but my search fu is insufficient at the moment.

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • CHANGED: Tweaked the header text for full digests and summaries to hopefully make things a little more clear.
  • CHANGED: When adding/editing an event, replaced the 'Send Invite To Group' checkbox with dedicated Add/Update Event buttons to make things more clear.
  • CHANGE: Changed the SMTP error status message we return for no reverse DNS and some other errors so that it's a bit less opaque.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed parsing of a bunch of additional bounce messages (if you've seen 'Unable to parse bounce message' in your email delivery history, hopefully this will fix that.)
  • INTERNAL: Added additional statistics tracking along with improved web site log analysis.
  • SYSADMIN: Audited our database alerts and added an additional one for transaction wraparound.
  • NEW: We remember your last home page and return to it when going to https://groups.io or clicking on the Groups.io logo.
  • NEW: The feed view is now the home page view and the previous page, the listing of your groups, is now at /groups.
  • NEW: Remember sort field/order when viewing photo albums.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Mark

We had no idea that it put a load on the system as we weren't told that in GMF.
There were many threads and messages on that issue.

Yes, I had to disable that page because you were hammering the system with delete requests. The system is not currently optimized to delete bulk messages like you were doing and it puts a load on the system. The URL has '-test' in the name for a reason....

We need that feature to work or a way we can hide the messages from members or another way to delete messages in mass. My groups are used as email groups only and new people who join the group shouldn't be able to reap the benefits of the group before they were members.

The groups.io system wasn't really designed for that type of usage.
