Does this mean just membership or all of the things they contributed to the prior group are also not migrated?

Hi Mark,

thanks.  The updated map view format and map link work well for me.

I'd also like to suggest that the column headings on the map view list stay fixed below the map as you scroll down the list. Currently they disappear behind the map.

Regards,
Andy

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • CHANGE: When viewing a database table in map view, changed the formatting of the rows to match the non-map view and added in the ability to collapse columns.
  • CHANGE: When viewing a database table with an address, the [Map] link now opens up in the new page.
  • NEW: New /getpastmembers API endpoint and lots of little API documentation fixes.
  • CHANGE: Changed the expiry of login links from 2 hours to 24 hours.
  • NEW: Barracuda Networks firewalls are sometimes blocking messages from us, for reasons I don't yet understand. The bounce message was being interpreted as a hard bounce, but the blocks are not consistent, so I've changed the bounce parsing for these messages to treat them as soft bounces instead.
  • CHANGE: For emails originating from the website, we replaced the X-Originating-IP header with two new headers, X-Originating-Location and X-Originating-Platform
  • NEW: When specifying a yahoo group to transfer, you can now specify a list of people to exclude from the transfer process.
  • INTERNAL: More work on automating adding and monitoring new machines.
  • NEW: Upcoming event summary email for premium groups.
  • NEW: In pending subscription notifications, include the pending subscriber's platform, browser, location and IP address.

Have a good weekend everyone.

I find it difficult to support this proposal. It's likely that the person is already subscribed. Encouraging them to subscribe a second address does not serve to explain what happened and will only cause further confusion when they begin to receive duplicate messages from the group.

There's now a dropdown in group settings to select either weekly Friday delivery or monthly delivery of the summary email.

Just one more cosmetic request on Database.
Can we get  the Map mode to display each record in the same way as List mode does?

Can you add a feature where a Yahoo Group owner gives a list of members who have declared their opposition to the move to GIO and therefore, they are excluded from the transfer including all their identifiable data such as their email addresses, posts, files, photos, etc.?

I have just added this. When setting up or editing a yahoo transfer, you can now specify a list of email addresses to exclude, one per line.

For each of these people, we exclude all files, photos, databases and messages owned by them. Also, any photo albums or file folders owned by them are completely skipped.

We do our best, but for some very old messages, we don't have the full email address of the sender (you can blame me for that back in the ONElist days). So we might transfer messages that we shouldn't, in that case.

Mark

moderated Pending subscription message now including location/other info

Hi All,

Just fyi, the pending subscription email notifications now include the pending subscriber's platform, browser, location and IP address in the message, assuming they applied to the group via the website. This is part of some work I'm doing to track people's devices and locations, to increase account security.

Please let me know if you see any funny results.

Thanks,
Mark

moderated New premium group feature: event summary emails

Hi All,

I just pushed a new feature for premium groups, event summary emails. Every Friday morning, you can have an email sent to your group listing the next 20 events in your group. It's tagged with #cal-summary. To turn it on, look for the new checkbox in the Calendar section of your group settings page.

Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark, is there a possibility of you adding something that allows you to set a special notice post to go out at a specific date and time?  I understand it can be done somewhat with calendaring events but that does not work for me as the format would be different.  When I'm traveling in another country it is difficult to get a specific post out in the morning on the correct date so just wondering if that is a possibility in the future?

moderated Re: "Show quoted text" box is great, now pushing my luck with further suggestion

Mark,

I finally got a chance to test this. You did exactly what you said you did, namely: when there is a reply via email, the signature now appears when viewing the reply in the archives, rather than being swept into the quoted test.

However, my request was more general and not qualified by the phrase "when viewing messages in the archives." :) When viewing a reply in email, the sig is still put at the very bottom, below all the quoted text, and is therefore not really seen in general, or is hard to see.

I was hoping that for display purposes, either in the email OR the archive message, the signature would appear directly below the message body. In essence, it would be treated as part of the message body, at least for display purposes. (I realize it needs to be treated differently for other purposes, e.g., search.)

When someone composes a message, the auto-sig seems to be just a convenience in that it appears at the bottom of the message body and can still be modified while composing the message. It *is*, at least in that sense, part of the message body.

But I'm probably just getting greedy as usual. :)

That may seem simple to you Bob but to me it is a huge chore.

What used to be a simple click of a button on Yahoo has turned into a several hours chore on Groups.io

Thanks anyway

Again, you will need to click Save at te bottom of the page for these to take effect.
