moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • DOCS: Updates from Nina.
  • INTERNAL: Created a system to automatically run all parts of the system in a dev environment instead of having to do things by hand.
  • INTERNAL: Revamped build system to make development easier.
  • BUGFIX: Wrote a utility to generate all possible VTIMEZONE entries. We now add VTIMEZONE entries to ICS files, to fix a Confluence calendar bug.
  • NEW: Added an <hr> tag between messages in the Topic view for screen reader navigation.
  • CHANGE: Include the full path in notifications for folder additions/changes.

Take care everyone.

It works across browsers and screen readers now. Thank you!

Yep, I need to figure out how to do this. We use Google Docs, and I need to figure out a good way of programmatically detecting changes that would affect the URL structure.

Thanks,

moderated Pending message stuck after email address change #bug

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

one of our members sent a message to our moderated group. My co-owner claimed it and was checking it before approval. In the mean-time, the member changed his email address and we now have a message that we cannot approve (we have not tried deleting it yet so you have evidence of the issue).  It may be that the message was claimed part way through the email address change process when the new address/account was in NC status - I am not sure if that would make a difference or not.

Would it make sense to restrict email address changes if a member has messages pending approval?

We have asked our member to re-send his message which we will approve when it arrives.

Andy

moderated Group creation page Visibility dropdown reset bug #bug

Christos G. Psarras

Hi Mark,

In the group creation page, if there is a syntax error in the Email Address value and the data validation checker gets invoked after clicking on "Create Group", the error is correctly identified but unlike the Email Address and Group Description fields whose values are preserved, the Visibility dropdown gets reset to the default value and it can be easily missed.

I went to create a test group earlier today and after ensuring I selected the correct hidden/private setting and adding the group description, I finally added the email address -but I unintentionally used an underscore instead of a dash in the email- and clicked on Create; I got the email address error and That address is not valid blurb so I fixed it and resubmitted, and it seemed all went fine now.  A few minutes later I got back a group creation denial message because the group wasn't created with the hidden/private setting.  Since I knew I had selected that, I went back and retried but this time I paid attention to the Visibility box and it does indeed reset if there's a syntax error in the email address.

Cheers,
Christos

moderated Resend of pending member notice not logged in member activity log #bug

Resending of the pending member notice is still logged in the group activity log, but not in the member activity log. It should be, and IIRC, used to be.

Chris,

You have solved it.
I had forgotten to select “search” after selecting “message to + owner”.

Sorry, there is no bug.

moderated RSVP Event Responses Action Button Issues #bug

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

Some issues regarding the Actions button I have found when there are no responses to the event:

  • the option to change RSVPs is available to select but does nothing
  • the option to Email All Responders on the Action button is available and if you select this, you are just returned to the calender view with no status message
  • the Export Responses button creates a CSV file but this just contains a header row so is not really mush use
  • the Create Name Tags process can be completed but generates an empty file  (I have raised additional issues with this option on a separate topic)
Bearing in mind recent messages about showing/hiding credit card details, it would be helpful if options were greyed out when the number of responders is zero.

moderated RSVP Event Create Name Tag Issues #bug

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

some issues I have found when creating name tags for RSVP events:

  • It's possible to go through the label generation process when there are no attendees
  • After creation of the name tag document, the label selection and confirmation pop-up page stays visible so it's not obvious that a document has been created (there's no message to say a document has or has not been created)
  • The name tag document created is in PDF format but does not have a .pdf extension
  • The name tag documents all have the same filename and it would be helpful if this distinct - perhaps based upon the event details
  • Name tag details are not generated for guests (perhaps these could be labelled 'Guest' with the name of the attendee underneath to identify who they are a guest of

Hello Mark,
thank you for so quick response and action. The reason, why Robert and me canot see the element you've added is because style="display: none;" really means it's not intended to be shown and even screen-readers skip such elements.

I see you're using Bootstrap. There should be a class made just for this purpose called sr-only. If it wouldn't be included in your Bootstrap version, such class definition is easy to find.
So please try to rewrite the styling to <hr class="sr-only">

Thank you very much.

There is no such option; there is, however, Message to +owner; is that what you mean?

Further to that are you remembering to click on Search after defining the Action you want to list?

I don't see any sorting options in the dropdown. I think those are just search criteria. Maybe you can give an example to explain what you mean? I obviously don't understand what you're saying is the problem.

Oh, forgive me, you said "sorting," and you're referring to the listing order, not the list itself. I'll check it again.

My activity-log search dropdown is working fine.
What do you mean by "when I select +owner from the drop down menu"? Which dropdown are you seeing that in? I don't see any such search criterion.

Seems like, from what I could tell, is that you need to have something in the search box for the actions drop down menu to take effect. Maybe it's not a bug, but something that could be formatted to work differently.

I'm with Bob on this. There could be so many variations that different groups want specific allowances for.

Anthony Angelo wrote: "The current count is nice as it gives me the number of families attending,"
The count is for the number of attendees/individuals rather than families.

In my recent testing, I did not look at options for bringing guests. I've just tried this though and see that it keeps count towards the limit of individuals attending (rather than families).  Combing the number of guests with the option to request additional information by the organiser (e.g. how many of your guests are children?) would allow flexibility without overly complicating the system.

The HR tag is not working for me when I am viewing a thread. Could this be visible? It would help screen magnifier users too if it were visible to everyone. But when I go into a thread, the HR tag is not showing up between messages in the thread, running NVDA and FireFox.

moderated Changing a non-mod's posting status logged as "changed moderator permissions" #bug

Summary: changing a non-moderator member's posting status resulted in an extra group activity log entry that his "moderator privileges" were changed.

Details: I changed a non-moderator member's posting status to "overrride - moderated" in a non-moderated group. Two activity log entries were created, one of them correct ("changed xyz's posting status") but the other incorrect ("changed xyz's moderator privileges"). Also, neither action was recorded in the member's activity log.
