You're right; I was. I am very reliably informed that the function you want is not available on Groups.io.

Sorry about any confusion that I may have caused.

moderated Files upload error message #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi,

I tried a bulk upload of some files and the process stopped as it encountered a duplicate.  The error message issues did not name the file in question:

There is already a file or folder in this directory with the same name.

Subsequent files were also not uploaded so I was left having to work out which one had failed and where to restart the upload process from.

Can the name of the file in error at least be identified in the message?  It would also be good to have some resume or continue option to save having to go back to the start of the upload and file selection process.

Thanks
Andy

Chris, I think you might be referring to the ability to write a description below a photo, which is not what I am talking about. On the Yahoo groups, when you hover over a photo a conversation bubble appears and when you click on it you can read the previous comments left and leave one yourself. I am on the GMF so if you know how to do this, and I somehow missed it, please do let me know there. Annick

moderated Moderate files upload?

I was planning to allow members to upload files, but for the files only to be visible to members after they are approved by a moderator. Unfortunately this does not appear to be an option. Might it be possible to provide this option please?

Thank you.

moderated Support quoting pending message text on private reply #suggestion

Don McKee

When processing a pending message as a moderator, I'm given the option to "Send Message" to the original poster. As part of the "Send Message" dialog, I'd like to be able to quote the text of the pending post I'm sending about, similar to the "Quote Whole Post" option available on a normal "reply".

Unless you mean something different to my understanding, this capability exists now. Are you a member of the GMF? I ask because beta members cannot Create Albums / Upload Photos so I cannot do a demonstration sample for you here; if you are on GMF then I will do one there because creating an album is enabled.

I'm wondering if Mark is considering at all the option of adding comments below photos...whether that idea has been nixed or is it just low on the priority list.  My groups rely heavily on the photos we share and having to comment on them via messages, and the following acknowledgement of the messages by the photo poster, makes for volumes of messages that are burdensome for many members, even if they choose digest delivery or read from the website. The addition of a comment section below photos, like what we had at Yahoo, would greatly enhance our enjoyment of our groups. I would love to tell our members that it is still on the to-do list.

Great, I'm glad you figured it out!

That other problem I mentioned has been happening to lots of people who transferred over from yahoo, including the GMF member friend of mine who sent me your thread. So I figured it was worth letting you know about it.

Oooops.  . I thought I’d know what you thought I meant when I think I knew what you thought I was thinking.

Part of the limitation on a device, not as friendly quoting as on the PC. Do we actually call em “PC”s anymore?

I also agree. In fact I"m used to seeing the preview buttons at the bottom of a post in any forum.

LOL, that's what y'all get for not providing any quote in context.

I thought Ken was talking about the message preview.

But in fact he was replying to your message:

As long as we're at it, it would also be nice if it showed
attachments.
So I amend my answer, yes a thumbnail of the attachment would be welcome.

Ken,

A thumbnail preview below the text box do you mean?
I was thinking only of moving the button out of the message formatting Advanced Toolbar and changing its appearance.

What it does now is open a pop-up dialog box containing the preview (full size). That's fine by me.

Maybe it would be better as a blue "Preview" button below the message
box, together with the Green "Reply to Group" and red "Discard" buttons.
That way more people might know it exists, and might use it to advantage.

Shal

That would be much more intuitive, next to “send”!
