moderated Option to Moderate Files and Folders

Janis

I was just in the moderation settings in my Yahoo groups and noticed an option I wish I had used before, an option to moderate photo uploads by members.  To save storage, it is best to only allow some types of photos that fit the group and do not break copyright laws.

Also, in my old group at Yahoo, I found a couple of files with incorrect lineage where DNA tests have proven there is no connection. There could be other issues with file uploads. And again, to save storage, I want to moderate file uploads before they are added to our files section.

Could we have moderating of file and photo uploads added to our group manager options, please?

Yahoo does not have the file moderation option.
This is what I see in moderation settings at Yahoo.

Mark,

Thank you for correcting this problem.

Since the correction the waiting queue is not growing anymore, but shrinking, as it should do.
Slowly, but I understand importing a lot of data takes time.

I'm glad that the problem (being moved backwards in the queue) now appears to be recognized, and the end of waiting is in sight.

I'm happy again!

Onderwerp: [beta] Change in group transfer queue sorting algorithm

Hi All,

After some consideration, I've changed how the groups in the transfer queue are being sorted, in an effort to make things more fair.

Previously, transfer requests were sorted by when they were initially created.

Now, transfer requests are sorted by when the go ahead is given to transfer the group.

Figuring things out as I go.....

Thanks,

Mark

Thanks very much, Mark. The plans for all the subgroups now correctly display Premium Yearly. I did originally submit this report to support@groups.io, but, after not getting a response (understandably given your workload), I decided to try posting this to beta so that I could get the problem in front of your eyes somehow. I apologize for the breach of protocol.

I only have two members at Yahoo with the no email option. I contacted them directly using my private email that I we used before we had a Yahoo group.

Your members set to No Email do not have a clue that your group has moved.

You must contact them to inform them. People with the NO email option set  do not get special notices.

1. Change them to individual email and send out your notice that the group is being transferred. Include the link for yiur new group home page or information about the groups.io website.

2. This is also a test for bouncing. If they bounce you can decide to remove them.

3. If your group is currently having files copied in the transfer, step 2, the bouncing members will not be copied so you could wait until you are in step 3 or 4 of the transfer. OR you can try to contact them by private email. But they may have the group in allowed senders and your private email might not be in their allowed senders. I would wait for step 3 or 4 then change their email settings. You can change it back after you send the notice ti inform them of the move to Groups.io

As owner, you have a right to disallow the no email setting.

Apologies for the bad information.  It does in fact say "Give Go Ahead To Transfer", though there is sometimes a delay before it updates.

Unless it's been changed recently, the button should say "Start Group Transfer Process".  We can handle this type of question on GMF.

Mark, I'm the one that had asked about the transfer.io issue.  I got the info this morning that the invite had been accepted  and did the selecting of all of the items I needed transferred, but I didn't see a button saying 'go ahead'. I thought I had remembered seeing that before or reading about it.  Again, I'm not rushing you, but want to make sure I didn't goof up again.  Maybe that's been removed?

Yes you can do this.

Cheers,

A few days before the recent pricing change, I created a main group and a few subgroups for my non-profit organization. My understanding was that we could upgrade using the Yearly Premium option and migrate both the main group and the subgroups from Yahoo! Groups for the one yearly fee. I upgraded the main group (announcements@companeros.groups.io) from Premium Monthly to Yearly Premium for $110 the day before the pricing change was announced and initiated the transfer. I am paid up for this month for the Premium Monthly plan, so the payment for Premium Yearly is due to be applied to our credit card next month. Everything seems to be proceeding as expected for the main group transfer. Its current status is "awaiting transfer."

A couple of days ago I started the process to transfer one of the subgroups (
discussions@companeros.groups.io) and was notified yesterday morning that the transfer agent had accepted the invitation to the corresponding Y!G. I promoted the transfer agent to Moderator in that group and then returned to the "Transfer from Yahoo" page, selected the subgroup from Existing Transfers, and encountered the following message.

When I click on the link for the Premium Yearly option, the Current Plan for the subgroup is listed as Premium Monthly, even though the main group is listed as Premium Yearly. I checked all the other subgroups and they all say the same thing: Current Plan is Premium Monthly. Because of that, I am not able to move forward to give the go ahead for the subgroup transfer. My understanding was that upgrading the main group to Premium Yearly would “trickle down” to all the subgroups. It would be very difficult for my non-profit group to pay $220 to upgrade each of the other subgroups to Premium Yearly. Please advise me if there is a way to correct the status of the subgroup plans to reflect the Premium Yearly status of the main group.

moderated Sub-folders for PHOTO section

RCardona

Would it be possible to allow the creation of sub-folders in photo folders, like currently exists for file folders?  I see there have been at least two other requests to provide this feature back in 2018, so am reviving the request.

The dilemma I faced was I could simply add them to the files section, where folder and sub-folder capacity already exists, but then they are unable to be viewed as photos.  To dump them all in the photos section without better organizational sub-folders would create a real mess.   A possible alternative would be to provide a toggle on file folders that would allow the folder to be viewed as a photo folder in the files section.

I would like adding a Display Name when registering be a requirement.  In my family genealogy groups I insist on knowing names and members being on first name basis within the group.  I ask them to close their messages with their name. First name only works for me.

My interest is always in the betterment of the product as a whole.
Take care.

If that's the cause of the growing queue, I wonder if it's wise to offer a priority possibility in a period of an increasing number of customers and a deadline because of the upcoming closure of Yahoo Groups.
If Groups.io cannot deliver on the demand before the closure of Yahoo Groups, it has to refund a lot of payments (because of not fulfilling the agreements). If there's a continuous stream of customers with priority (I think companies, because 200 dollar is an exorbitant amount for individuals), the backlog is growing bigger and cannot be solved anymore.

I think the current priority should be eliminating the backlog instead of making money from priority requests.

Glad Mark clarified.

It hurts when you are trying very hard to get the job done under great pressure.

This would shut up the whiners who have no idea what it takes to run sustainable business with the onslaught of work.

Anyone who is unhappy can look for better options elsewhere.

In terms of money, the focus is on running a sustainable business.

I'm not happy with the service up to now and I'm afraid Groups.io will not fullfill the agreement. I regret my decision to give Groups.io my confidence.

I am happy to refund your payment (and anyone elses). Contact me off-list and I'll process the refund and delete your group.

moderated Mark: Clarification for basic Groups

kr402

Mark,

I and others that might move their Ygroup to Groups.io need a clarification that in 2020
their might be a charge for Basic Groups.

If so would that include existing groups,
or just new groups?

Would all groups at Groups.io have a fee, meaning
there would no longer be any free groups?

Please, all understand I am not debating whether there should be fees or not I am simply asking Mark for clarification from recent discussions on this.

Thanks, Mark for all you have and are doing. You are the best and Groups.io are still the best groups.

moderated Photos in albums

Margo Seegrist

I noticed this before in a group I've belonged to here in groups.io but now I'm finally getting around to asking a question about it.  When I click on a photo in an album to copy it down to my computer, there are choices of download, edit, move and report.  There isn't a choice to Cancel the action of clicking on the photo.  Any chance there will be one so if we click on the photo, decide we don't want to edit it and want to back out of it we don't have to hit the back arrow on our computers or click on the Photos album to have to scroll back through all the albums to find the one we were just in (alphabetized or not).

Another thing.  Same subject.  If I click on the download, I know I right click and copy or save image as or whatever.  But after I do that, the photo just sits there with no way out of it.  There's no left hand columns with Photos to click on so the only option is the back arrow on the computer.  Any chance of putting a little "X" in the upper right corner to get us out of that photo?  Not to delete it - just to get back to the previous screen or the main album?

If there is another way and I just don't see it, please let me know.  I figured the way I was doing it was not logical so there must be a logical way that I'm missing.

Sincerely,

Rli@...
