When I get a Message Approval Needed email, at the bottom I see:

To approve this using email, reply to this message. You do not need to attach the original message, just reply and send.

Reject this message and notify the sender.

Delete this message and do not notify the sender.

Would it be possible, while retaining the reply functionality to add a link for "Approve this message and do not notify the sender"?

Best,

Glenn

These would also be applicable to the Membership page for individual members.

Hi Mark,

While I've been testing the changes to Email Delivery and Message Selection options, I had some thoughts about the layout of the Subscription page:

  • The length of this page is now greater than it was a while back following the addition of several Moderator Notifications (and hopefully there will be another control for the Sponsorship notifications - reminder hint!). If the different panels were collapsed in the same manner as the Group Settings page, it would make it easier to get an overview of the options that can be updated.
  • All the panels on this page relate to information that a member receives from Groups.io except the Signature panel which is what a member sends and that is sandwiched between other options. If the Signature panel is moved to the bottom of the page, it keeps those panels that relate to information received together. There is also then a logical connection between the placement of the Signature panel on the page and the Signature on an outgoing message as they're both at the bottom.
  • There is now a more obvious relationship between the Email Delivery options and the Message Selection options in the Advanced Preferences so perhaps we don't need an Advanced Preferences at all. Instead, move the options currently in Advanced Preferences into the Email Delivery panel and make it look exactly the same as the Default Subscription Settings panel. Having a single layout to control these options would make it simpler to follow.
  • If the current Advanced Preferences options were merged into the Email Delivery panel, it would make it easier to indicate on screen immediately the effect of changing one option on another and eliminate the issue of different update styles I referred to in my previous message.

My typo and poor punctuation   It should read:

In the case of First Message Also and Auto Follow Replies,  changes are shown immediately on the screen so you can see the impact of switching between All Messages and Following Only.

Hi Mark,

On the Default Sub Settings page, the Converse point doesn't work.  When the initial settings are Individual Messages and Following Only, if you change the Email Delivery to Special Notices Only and click the Update Group button a message is displayed at the top of the screen saying Your changes have been saved but the settings remain the same as before.

Also, there are two update styles (my term) when changing these options now. In the case the First Message Also and Auto Follow Replies changes are shown immediately on the screen so you can see the impact of switching between All Messages and Following Only.  However, (on the Subscription page), if you have Individual Messages and Following Only selected and change to Special Notices Only the change of Message Selection to All Messages takes place effectively behind the scenes. It's not obvious it has been done as the Advanced Preferences section is collapsed after changes are saved. An enhanced update message may help here perhaps if the Message Selection has had to be modified based upon Email Delivery.

I'll have a further #suggestion about the Subscription page and will start a new topic for that.

Andy

February 12th, 2021

  • DOCS: Updates from Nina to the Owners Manual and Members Manual.
  • CHANGE: On the edit subscription and group member pages, under Advanced Preferences, Auto Follow Replies has been moved under Following Only. Conversely, if Email Delivery is changed to Special or No Email, force Message Selection to All and uncheck Auto Follow Replies. Discussion.
  • BUGFIX: When displaying a text-only message, if a link ended in a < or >, we would improperly include that in the link.

February 8th, 2021

  • BUGFIX: If a pending message rejection member notice had quotes in it, they would display as escaped when editing the message in the pending message screen. Discussion.
  • CHANGE: New groups are now subject to per-member pricing. Discussion.

  • CHANGE: The Member count on group home pages and search results now no longer includes Not Confirmed members.

Take care everyone.

Thanks for the fixes Mark!

>>> a new subscription page similar

That's neat, that means my remaining grey matter is still working OK more or less, with the occasional misfire :)

Speaking of misfires, I realized yesterday that in the proposed version I had missed accounting for "Web-only" users (thanks J).  Adding a "Web Only/Online Only" delivery method to the four existing ones took care of it and which now completes the picture.

Also as was suggested, I went over and made sure "email" vs "message" is used in as much a clear and concise way in the text as I could, plus some other text suggestions and my own OCD tweaks.  The updated proposal is attached.

I also put down the sub screen story on another graphic, user & usage cases and display/logic/mailing rules, also attached.  With the use case info in there it's also easy to write a "Help me decide" user manual page that puts things in context and further explains and shows how to set up the settings to achieve whatever message filtering the user wants, then have a button/link to it in the sub screen.

Any feedback is appreciated to make sure I didn't miss anything. (again)

Cheers,
Christos

Great! I think this solves this problem.
Since FO now automatically includes Auto Follow Replies, you could instead just remove the AFR option and add explanatory text to FO. But either way works!

Has anyone confirmed whether the trash-the-draft date is based on the first-typed date, or the last-edit date?  (I realize the first-typed date continues to display even after uptrend edits.)

If the former scenario applies I suggest that Mark consider switching to the latter scenario (last-edit date.)

I note that “favoriting” was a feature that Y!Choo introduced (I believe right after the NEO “better idea”) and it was so very useful to keep track of certain oft-used replies to oft-asked questions (copy, paste, edit, paste into a reply to the latest oft-asked question.) Unfortunately for whatever reason Y!Choo discontinued after a short period of time, maybe a few months.

It would be a great addition here.

moderated Ability to "Star" a message or thread #suggestion

Yvette Money

Good morning, I have been wondering if we could re-visit the idea of being able to "Star" messages or topics we would each like to be able to find quickly?  I know this has been suggested before as based on Mark's answer in the old thread https://beta.groups.io/g/main/message/10048 .  I realize hashtags have a good purpose, but in many groups the members either do not know how to use them properly or don't use them at all.  If a member could just add a star to any message they feel is useful to them and wish to refer back to easily, it would make it much easier for them to find it later.  This would make the Groups.io experience more individualized for each member and would, in the long run, be more user friendly for them.  Many hashtags end up with so many messages and topics within them that it still takes quite a while to search for that one specific thing they are searching for.  Many times, by the time they would like to look for that message (or topic) they have forgotten the name  but have a vague "memory" of something they want to see again.

Also, in my case, I am an owner of a Group and often go to the GMF for ideas and solutions to assist my members.  Whenever there is a good solution that I want to remember and refer to again I do a search on the GMF and have trouble finding the messages I am looking for (mostly because I can't remember the wording I used to aske the question).  I have resorted to copying the whole thread onto my computer and saving it there.  Being able to "star" a message or thread would be very beneficial for me and, hopefully others using Groups.io.

That works. Someone wanting to follow topics will now get those messages.

That also makes sense. It's less necessary than the first change but it eliminates some confusion.

What's still missing is that Auto-Follow Replies would be more useful (and intuitive) if made subservient to Following Only. Oof. Fixed. It's $0.44/$2.20, correct on the upgrade page, was incorrect on the pricing page.

Yes, that is correct. On the Upgrade screen, you should have seen something like:

You're signing up for the Premium plan ($220 for up to 500 members, with additional members $0.44, billed yearly). Once we successfully process payment, we'll immediately upgrade your group.
The bill for this year is $220.00.
