It would be nice if group members could click on "all my messages" in any individual group. (If this already exists, I don't see it...)

It would be convenient to have an option to automatically reset members to NuM if they haven't posted for a specified period of time.

It would be handy if we had an appropriate status badge so I could see at a glance whether a Member Note has been saved for a member.

Changes to the site this week:

• INTERNAL: More work on the API webhooks system.
• CHANGE: When forwarding a message using the Mac email client (and maybe others), it takes the forwarded message, encloses it in a blockquote and adds at the top 'Begin forwarded message'. Because it was in a blockquote, we were collapsing it. This was not good behavior, so we now look for this special case and don't collapse that blockquote.
• API: Added open_donations_visible to perms object.
• API: Added hashtags_visible to perms object.
• API: Removed view_archives from perms object.
• API: Changed view_guidelines to guidelines_visible in perms object.
• API: Added subgroups_visible to perms object.
• API: Added perms field to member_info object.
• API: Added new Subs array to user object.
• API: The member_info object now only returns the fields that are set by the endpoint. Previously it returned all fields, regardless of whether the fields were set or not (some endpoints won't set all the fields based on permissions).
• BUGFIX: When dealing with a message from someone not a part of the group, who has DMARC p=reject set on their domain, use their name in the From line (ie Mark Fletcher via Groups.io). Previously this was blank.
• CHANGE: When banning a member of a group, we now generate a past member object for them so they properly appear in the past members list.
• CHANGE: Added autocomplete="off" to email fields when viewing a member and when viewing your account information to prevent the browser from changing the fields.

Linode downtime to patch a crash #downtime

Description:

Our hosting provider, Linode, has to patch all the physical machines our service runs on. This downtime corresponds to the patching of our main database instance. The site will be down potentially for up to two hours, although I believe it will be much less than that.

This downtime starts at 9:00AM UTC.

Mail will be queued during the downtime and will be sent when we are back on-line. I will be sleepy the next day.

Well Mark, we squeaked by and hope you did also.
Apparently Piggy (PG&E) made unannounced changes to their selected blackout maps and we were spared.
Santa  Cruz county was pretty much dark.

Pamela who spends hours every month exporting databases, editing the csv spreadsheet and then printing our databases!

I started this list a couple of months ago and since then I've added/deleted ideas.
I've tried to keep the list as short as I could to provide functions that would enhance Database operation and use.

Suggestions for Databases Function:

1.       Setup Option in premium to initially open in List or Map mode.

2.       Setup Option in premium to allow owners/moderators, based on `1 above, to force DB to stay in List or Map mode permanently or be switchable between. 

3.       Setup option to hide Index/Record number

4.       In Premium/Enterprise groups, when searching, retain the current (List or Map) mode.

5.       Provide Reset/Resequence Index command

a.       with a “Set Index Increment” function  to allow spacing/insertion between records.

b.      Or with a preset “Increment of 10 to allow spacing/insertion.

6.       Provide “Insert Record Before/After Record #” function when Index Increment >1

7.       Retain column headings when scrolling.  Currently they disappear.

 

8.       Always go to List mode when importing tables or rows; then, when complete, return to default mode from setup.

Well if you've ever lived where there has been an extended outage in both time and area, you would worry about the restart capability of such a huge network of generators and users.  Just resyncing 100 and more generators is time consuming.
But this isn't just Northern Callifornia, Southern California Edison is also in the mix.

Oh well, this is a good earthquake/any disaster exercise for us.
We had already started a local Disaster Group at groups.io to common sharing and access of information and resources.

Oh, I know they do have failover power, both battery and generator. But if we're talking about 5 days of no electricity, that's something I'd be concerned about.

Ah, gotcha. From what I've read (I live in Northern California), the outages aren't supposed to be more than 2-4 days.

Good question. The machines are in a datacenter in Fremont, Ca. Looking at the PG&E outage maps, it seems that parts of Fremont are scheduled to lose power. I don't know if that includes the datacenter. I would hope that we would have received notice if that was the case. In any event, I have a support ticket open to see if I can get verification that the datacenter will continue to have power. If I hear of any interruptions, I will let you know. Things seem to be quite fluid at the moment unfortunately.

Ok well YAHOO decided to remove the integration email from the member list, so no more posts are coming in. Turns out the
integration email address is too long I believe.

As a solution would creating a subgroup serve as an integration where the email to post to that should be short enough to work,
then can I add the post-to address of the main group as a subscriber so it works?

I can almost see uses for moderators being able to upload files (or to take some other "notified" actions) without creating a notification entry. Mods / owners are particularly likely to undertake setup and organization tasks that might otherwise create a lot of nuisance notification items.

Let me unpack those two answers:

The checkbox currently says "Notify Members" members, but what it really means is "Message the group" - it creates a message that posts to the group's Messages/Topics and is sent to members per their Subscription Email options.

The new notices are different beasts. They don't become part of the group's Messages/Topics and are sent to members (or not) per the member's subscription Notifications options. Unlike messages, which ordinary members likely receive by email, I expect that only a few advanced members will enable email notifications, most will stick with the default "Web/App only.

So I would say if the checkbox remains then it continues to do what it does now, and checked or not should not affect the generation of an item in the notification system.

My inclination would be to remove the checkbox and thereby remove the "message the group" function they currently perform.
