moderated Link to Google Drive/Dropbox/Box/OneDrive files #update

Hi All,

In the Files section for your group, you can now create files that are links to files stored in Google Drive/Docs, Dropbox, Box or Microsoft OneDrive. Look at the new + New dropdown in the Files section.

This option lets you input a URL for a file. For example, in Google Docs, you can get a public or restricted URL to a file by clicking the Share button.

Selecting the different services just changes the icon used to display the file. It has no other effect.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks,
Mark

This should be fixed now.

Andy,

After giving it some thought, I realize the Not Sure option shouldn't be much of a problem. We do have some members who may abuse it, but we'll have to be clear that a Not Sure response will be treated as a Not Attending and we will be making accommodations for Not Sure responses. We are a homeschool group and in general, I have noticed that homeschoolers are not great at showing up to things. We can at least now boot those who make a habit of no-showing to events.

As for the blank email, I sure hope that can be fixed otherwise it will cause all sorts of confusion with my members, and I'll be fielding questions everytime someone gets one fo these emails.

Thanks for all your thorough testing!

Nancy

When you write a new subject with a query, the group give you some suggestion of other message with the same subject. Like do uservoice.

I think add long press to edit the title of a topic/message could be great for moderators/owners.

moderated Allow control of page format when user uses Add Page in the Wiki #suggestion

When I go to add a page im the Wiki it currently uses the Editor Preference in User Preferences.

I want to add HTML pages to the Wiki, but to post messages in Plain Text.   Having to change User Preferences in order allow this seems "less than ideal"

Can't we change Add Page in the Wiki to allow selection of the page format.

Thanks
David

Might be better in the beta docs subgroup, although now it's here I daresay it will be noticed. :)

I am also for consistency. My thought is that the root problem here is that "Invite" was not the best wording choice on the Admin menu. It should be "Invitations" and the button label also correspondingly labelled.

I would also prefer to see that the blue buttons do not have an active link. If I want to clear a page, I would expect to do a page refresh in the browser.

moderated Owner's Manual doesn't address New User's Settings & No Search of Help Site #suggestion

This came up during a discussion on the GMF page, https://groups.io/g/GroupManagersForum/message/32993

I went looking for documentation showing how to set HTML as preferred Editor and couldn't find anything in the Owner's Manual, which as a groups.io member with a group I would assume that's where I'd look.

It was only a "Oh, wait a minute" moment where I thought to be a bit more thorough that I found it in the Members Manual (I use the single page so I can ctrl+F for HTML)

I would have found it straight away if there was a search function on the help site similar to what we find in Messages and the Wiki.

moderated Topics view does not display oldest message after a merge #bug

Bruce Bowman

Under normal circumstances, the first line or two of the oldest message in a topic is displayed in topics view. However, if I merge some older messages into a topic, this does not seem to be the case...it continues to display the text of the original message, now located somewhere in the middle.

I don't know if this is a bug or by design, but it definitely runs contrary to my usual use case for splitting and merging...rectifying things after a discussion strays far afield.

Contrary opinions welcome.

Thanks,
Bruce

Perhaps we shouldn't be using buttons for this purpose at all. A navbar or some such may be more appropriate. People are accustomed to that, and clicking in the navbar is unlikely to be confused for an action button, even when labeled similarly. Just throwing an alternative idea out there.

Having shared that, the current behavior is consistent with quite a few other pages on groups.io. If we believe this to be a problem, I don't think it appropriate to make such a change on one page and fail to address the others.

As Duane said, it's consistent with other page selection buttons on other pages in Groups.io.  If there are multiple buttons and one is blue, that's the page I'm on. It doesn't cause Groups.io to fail so I don't have a problem with it. I think there are other things we should focus on.

I've never understood the point of a self referential link on any page, it's annoyance when trying to navigate a site, and serves no purpose.
Actually, it is worse than useless in that it also unexpectedly clears the forms on that page.

Here's a vote to remove the link from any button that just goes to the same page that you're already on.
Agreed.
