moderated Search criteria within a member page should correspond to it being an individual and actual group member #suggestion

If you are within a member activity page and trying to do a search on some activity a propos the member, many, perhaps even most, of the search criteria are completely general and don't correspond to the fact that you're searching on an individual member. They're the same criteria as in the overall group activity log. For example, tonight I wanted to see all the messages that a certain member had had rejected. I found search criteria like "message rejected from non-member," "message rejected from unconfirmed member," and nearly a dozen other categories for rejection of a message that were completely irrelevant, but not simply "message rejected" or "message rejected by a moderator." There are tons of others that also don't fit. It would be nice if the search criteria within a member activity page could include criteria that apply to individual members and not ones that don't.

moderated Re: Add the full range of photo editing tools to the Photos albums "photo edit" #suggestion

Ken,

I’m suggesting only the full range of tools that are available under
posting msgs ... and wiki pages.
Oh, you want text formatting tools for the photo's Description box.

Nevermind.

(is that “post” or “message” ....I get so confused) ...
The end of my subject (or it it “Topic”?)
"Post" or "message" has been argued about here. I tend towards "post a message" - "post" is the action and "message" the object. But I'm not always consistent about it.

As to "subject", that's a short text field that applies to both a "topic" and to each message in the topic. So for what you wanted to say "subject" is correct, the "topic" would be the list of messages sharing that subject text - including this one of mine.

Of course, this is Groups.io usage (jargon) I'm describing. In general English usage the two are much closer to interchangeable.

Brady, if you have a repeating event you can do as Andy W said and when you save the event you are updating, you have an opportunity to update only the current one or all following.

You need to be more clear; are you asking about connecting the zoom accounts under a Zoom umbrella account of some sort?
Or for some unknown reason, adding all of your zoom IDs into a calendar event at Groups.io.

Just paste the details of your Zoom meeting into the existing calendar event. There's no need to cancel and recreate your event on the calendar..

moderated Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • APP: A test version of the Android app is now available and bugs are being fixed.
  • DOCS: The new Getting Started Guide For Group Owners is now live, with a link from the Help Center.
  • DOCS: Various updates from Nina.
  • SYSADMIN: Oversaw Linode bug patching of several servers.
  • BUGFIX: For enterprise groups that did not have disable signups set to true but did have a logged out wiki page defined, we would erroneously redirect all logged out accesses to the / URL and display the logged out wiki page, preventing access to any of the group.
  • API: Added polls_visible to perms object.
  • INTERNAL: Upgraded pgx library to latest version.
  • CHANGE: Rollback change to poll/topic locking behavior. Locking a topic once again does not close the poll.

Take care everyone.

moderated Main group search option to include subgroups #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

there was a message from Scott back in January about this but I thought I'd ask again. It would be really helpful to have an option on a search in a main group to include all subgroups. We have 20+ subgroups so tracking something down that you know you  have seen in one of them is a slow process.

Thanks

moderated Provide bcc options when automatic notices to members go out #suggestion

When you send a message to a member using the "send message" feature, you can choose to "bcc me" or "bcc all moderators." But when you do an action that causes an automatic message (notice) to go out, e.g, "reject member" (I have not taken the time to look into whether this applies to other auto-notices), there is no option for the mod who did the action to request a bcc. For example, I just rejected a pending member. Before doing so, I set the active rejection notice to be the one I wanted for this member. Then I pulled the trigger. But I have no confirmation via bcc that the right notice went out, and the other mods (not having done the rejection) have no idea in any case, since I, not they, was the one who set the notice I wanted to be the active one.

I still think there should be a way, and have requested this in the past, to choose in real-time (i.e., at the time of doing the action) which notice goes out. Instead, I have to go into Member Notices, set the notice I want to be the active one for this member, do the action, and go back into Member Notices and uncheck the Active box for the future.

While a global toggle would be nice (and I believe is on the TODO list).  In the meantime, clicking on the Uploaded column on right will reverse the sort order to make it easier to get to.  Not sure why, but it has to be clicked twice to get newest first.

Would it be possible to incorporate a default sort order in the files section?

For example, I upload our monthly newsletters in PDF form and name them: "2020_08 - Person of the Month.PDF"
Which ends up putting the newest file on the last page, not the end of the world if your somewhat technical and know where to go looking. But the casual user tends to not venture that far from what I've heard from our club members.

Could there be some sort of global "toggle", if you will, that would allow the default sorting option to be set?

The problem is that the body of the message says that XXXXXX uploaded a photo, along with a hyperlink to the photo, six times within the body of one message. And no, they are not multiple photos. It is only one photo.

I did a quick look at your group and couldn't find any photo notifications with multiple repeats. Please send me off-list a link to the message and I'll investigate.

Thanks,

Yes, dumb me.  I did create the test group as a free Premium.

I'm using that group as a training ground for new moderators.

Ginger -- If by "multiple times" you mean twice, that's unlikely to be a bug.

It happens in the notification message I receive as the group owner and also in the notification message that is sent out to the entire group.
The notification sent to the entire group is triggered when the uploader ticks the corresponding checkbox in the upload dialog. You can head off this notification by setting the "moderated" flag on the #file-notice hashtag.

The notification sent to you as a Moderator/Owner is controlled by your subscription settings. Click on Subscription on the left-side menu bar and update the "Moderator Notifications" block according to your preferences.

Further discussion on this topic should really be taken up in GroupManagersForum or Group_Help.

In this case, it would be the #photo-notice tag, but I've set _all_ of the #xxxx-notice tags to moderated so the group doesn't get as cluttered.

It probably should if it was a Select All, so there wouldn't be anything on the search results anyway. If only some of the members from the search results were removed, then it should return with the list updated, in case someone wants to remove one member, then decides to remove another member from the same search list, and so on. That's provided the search list can be updated properly after the remove, so any members just removed aren't on the list anymore.
