I am one of many group "owners" who are moving their group from Yahoo Groups to this system.

I thought I could take a bit of the pressure off the transfer process by using the "Direct Add" function. But I couldn't find what the maximum allowable number was. I tried with about 350 addresses but that was too many. Now I have to wait for approvals,  which ties up the current high-demand resources in groups.io. It would have been useful to have been able to find what the maximum with "Direct Add", or to ease the maximum because of the present extreme circumstances.

Is there also a maximum for sending invitations?

Glenn,
I would love to get a generator like yours. If you'd care to, feel free to PM me and let me know what kind it is, who you bought it from, etc.
Thanks.

Would this question be better to be sent somewhere else?

moderated Re: re-requesting group setting: "who can invite members"

That's a refinement on the request, and would be nice, but would require either a different category of member or a setting on each member's page. If easily doable and widely usable, it would be great. I myself would be happy with a simple "who can invite members" setting, at least to start with.

I would like to give only certain long time members the invite other member privilege without making those members moderators. I do not want these members to also approve pending applicants.

Sounds like a feature request to me if there’s no cancel option currently and if so, appropriate  for beta.

The green button only appears after you make groups.io a member of your group.

moderated New search indexing is down

Hi All,

Our elasticsearch cluster is crashing when on ingesting new messages. I need to rebuild the search index. I don't know how long that will take, but until then, new messages will not appear in the search index. This also means the by-month view on the group home page will not be updated. I will keep you posted.

Thanks,
Mark

Please send me the name of the Groups.io group and the name of the Yahoo group off-list and I'll look into it.

We thought you were just delaying us because ours is a larger group.  But now I suspect there is something gone wrong between Yahoo and Groups.io, because you're saying it should have happened by now.

What could be wrong?

How many Invites do you recommend we send Invites?  Do we need to resort to something like hourly, to catch that "sweet spot" when both Yahoo and Groups.io are participating with one another?  Is there any harm in sending that many invites -- will Groups.io treat it as spam if we do?

Thanks,
Andy

Nothing there under groups.io , guess I will try to resend it.

Look for groups.io in your membership list at Yahoo.

It was named groups.io in my Yahoo groups, not transfer.

Mark,

Thank you for the update. I just want to let you know our group is not
very active and there is nothing time sensitive in our group. My only
concern was saving the files, links and archives. Being on step 3 of 4
now, I know that is done. So I don't mind getting further down the
queue to make way for groups whose timely exchange of information is
critical. Not sure if there are others like me, but maybe if so we
could inform you on the transfer page so you can use that metric to
decide priority.

Hi All,

Here's the status of the various queues involved in the Yahoo Group transfer process:

- We've accepted all invites up through last night.
- We are exporting Yahoo Groups that were given the go ahead as of Oct 23 at 8am pacific time.
- We are importing Yahoo Groups that had completed export as of Oct 19 at 6pm pacific time.

Another way, in terms of the steps listed on the transfer page:

Your group is being exported from Yahoo right now. [Step 2 of 4]
Groups are currently waiting about 3 days in this queue.

Your group is awaiting import into Groups.io. There are about N groups ahead of it in the queue. [Step 3 of 4]
Once groups reach this step, they are currently waiting about 7 days in this queue.

Right now, I'm doing 20 group exports concurrently. I'm doing 4 group imports concurrently.

Please let me know if you have any questions or suggestions for how I can make this more understandable. I'll try to post this on a regular basis.

Thanks,
Mark

The generator does an automatic dry run every Monday at noon.  It also ran like a trooper during the previous PG&E shutoff, no problems with computers or UPSes.  It didn't help with the secondary outage that caused Xfinity to go offline, but then there was nothing I could do about that.

We can't have solar, too many trees.

Agreed. PG&E is the worst.

P.S. If you look this map, the outage threat runs from Eureka in the north to Salinas in the south, something like four hundred miles and much larger than just the Bay Area.
