Hi All,

Sorry about that. That was unintentional. The old mobile Groups page is back up.

I'm working on a new design for that page, but it's not done yet and was not supposed to be rolled out yet.

Thanks,
Mark

Landscape mode has no effect and I checked my default browser and another before posting about this.  It was perfectly fine in portrait mode on my Galaxy S7 Edge until recently.

Hi,

until a couple of days ago the mobile version of the groups homepage (https://groups.io/groups) was very useful and displayed details about the number of members and pending messages and subscription requests. Then it just displayed very small mobile site icons and group names that were almost so small you couldn't see them clearly. Now the icons and text are a bit larger and readable but the useful information about members and pending actions is still missing. Can we please reinstate the earlier version? As it stands I think it's user unfriendly as it requires many more user actions to locate and act upon pending moderator actions.

Thanks,
Andy

moderated Include filename in subject line of upload mails #suggestion

Glenn Glazer

My members ask:

The current upload email subject line says:
New file uploaded to main@somegroup.groups.io
and in the body it says:
* /foo/bar/baz.pdf
Would it be possible to have an option to have the subject line say either of:
New file (/foo/bar/baz.pdf) uploaded...
/foo/bar/baz.pdf uploaded...
The idea being that members could then visually filter upload mails based on the files of interest, e.g., rosters or minutes or bylaws and so on.

Thanks,

Glenn

I'll admit I didn't click through to prove that I could. I just took the site's word for it. There does seem to be some confusion here. When first claiming one could create groups I hadn't noticed the big headline:

That screen is a bit 'dumb'. It only displays something different if the account is not confirmed. It conflates a normal account with a bouncing account, which is why you saw 'Your Account Is Confirmed' when in fact your account was (and is) bouncing. I will need to change that text.

moderated Highlight calendar events with reminders #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi Mark,

there is no current way (that I know) of identifying which calendar events have reminders defined. With just a small number of events defined it can be a fairly easy task to check each one individually but it's a time consuming task when there are lots of events. It would be helpful to have a symbol of some kind that shows if an event has a reminder defined.

Andy

For what is worth, we decided not to use the Zoom integration for our
calendar alerts. Firstly it doesn't as Mark confirm work with repeated
events even if you want to edit a single event of the series. More
significantly the organiser (host) of the Zoom event must be the one
who sets it up as it interfaces directly to Zoom. We have set calendar
edits to be only permitted by moderators and our Zoom organiser is not
a moderator (OK, we could change permissions..).

Far easier is just to type the Zoom meeting ID and password which our
host supplies directly in the alert information box. We could also
probably also include the direct link.

Hopefully we will only have to do this for another couple of our events
if the UK Government allows us to meet again at our normal venue.

I'm unable to reproduce this; I can set up a meeting with either PMI or as One Time. Can you try again and then reply to me off-list with the exact time you tried it? I'll see if I can spot anything in the logs.

Thanks,

Hi Mark,

when I click the 'Make this a Zoom meeting' button the pop-up panel where you enter the Zoom meeting details opens and immediately closes repeatedly preventing entry of details.  I've tested this on Firefox and Chrome and it's the same each time.

Thank You Bruce.  It seems that a number of our users over time have been removed for marking as spam.  When I contact them with my gmail address they didn't do it.  And when I ask them to carefully examine their inbox and spam folders for an email that has a link to reinstate themselves they almost always never find one.  I have no idea if this is because their provider, since they just marked GIO as spam just tosses it and never delivers it even to the spam folder, or if they are not technical (many of our users are not) and just don't know what to look for.

It was not my intent to restart the FBL debate. I'm just seeking a more proactive way to help someone when they invariably <vernacular on> freak out <vernacular off> about it.

In my experience, nobody has ever decided to leave the group by marking a message as spam, rather, it is always their email *client* deciding something is spam and causing them to be dropped.

Then they come to me wanting to know why they aren't getting messages, or I mention to them, if I don't miss the notice, and they are confused, because they got no notice, (perhaps it went into the spam folder too).

The "dropping them like a hot potato" because of an automated spam message situation causes headaches for admins and users alike.

More generally, we need some way that a group Owner can resend that link to the [ex-]member.
My understanding is that the link to resubscribe is personalised to the member that was removed. In that sense, receiving a copy of it would suggest getting an element of control over an account that may not be appropriate. Having the ability to resend the link could be useful though and perhaps sending it as a personal or private message rather than a system message from Groups.io would reduce the chance of it being treated as spam at the receiver's end.

Most email clients will recognise a hyperlink in a plain text email and
make it clickable. They don't always get it right....

I think what was being asked was that the email commands for
unsubscribing etc should be shown so they can be used (clickable
mailto: or whatever, remember if they are they they can still be
manually typed in a new email). The existing links to the web interface
are no use for email only users who have never set a password for web
access.

That seems a sensible suggestion Bruce.

As an aside, we currently have one member with Virgin Media who gets
unsubscribed regular. He has clearly sorted out what happens since he
resubscribes in just a few minutes each time, and has not contacted me
to complain. But is there a specific issue with Virgin Media at the
moment?

Raw source below.  It is reasonable for an email client to hyperlink the unsubscribe link, there is no way the user can unsubscribe using email.

Mark,

Not true. Only confirmed users can create groups.

Ok, I guess something different happened.

I'll admit I didn't click through to prove that I could. I just took the site's word for it. There does seem to be some confusion here. When first claiming one could create groups I hadn't noticed the big headline:

Screenshot
        of NC Signup

The address in question is invalid. In fact it is in Bouncing status (but not NC) per shalstest's Pending Members list. I expected it to be both.

So I'm not sure how this address escaped NC status, unless there was some automatic response from my email service that "smelled" like a reply to the confirmation request.
