You should only get the numbers for groups in which you're a moderator/owner and for which you have the correct privileges to act on whoever/whatever needs approval.

Hi Chris,

If the list owners want to entice you to join, they can write a longer (better?) description if the group appears in the directory.
You can, of course, see how active it is, how many members, last post, etc.

All,

I just enabled incoming encrypted email connections. This should be completely transparent and there should be no issues. But I've learned never to say never. So, if you or one of your members can't seem to send a message to your groups, please ping my @corp.groups.io email address with the details.

Thanks,

I figured out that the number is the total number of people and/or messages awaiting approval. At that point I usually go to what is now named Your Subscriptions (https://groups.io/groups) and it shows which of those are pending on each group. You could also go to the group and it will show the individual numbers next to Pending or Members. I'm the owner of the groups where I've seen this. I don't know if mods would see it or not. Probably depends on their permissions.

Donna,

About that Your Groups in the black header, I am seeing a white "1"
inside of a grey circle. When I click on it to view the drop down
menu, I see that the "1" is next to Shal's test group. When I click
on that group, I see the "1" next to Members. I click on Members and
don't see it next to any of the members' names. ...

If the "1" means something else, can you explain, please?
It meant that there was one pending member. Since November. Oops, not sure why I was ignoring that.

Is there a way to remove it?
It should go away now that I've approved the member.

Perhaps a bit off topic, but my Pegasus Mail client asks me if I want to
include the whole message or only the highlighted part in my reply, as I have

Edited

More details. I downloaded the csv files for both groups. I did a line by line comparison for sorting on User and Email. Sorting on Email, all matches up except for the fact that NC members aren't downloaded. I can live with that unless it's a super easy change. Sorting on User, on group1 (50 members shown, 49 with NC) , there were 11 duplicates online (2=NC) and 10 that didn't show up at all online that are in the csv (not counting NC). In group2 (46 shown, 46 with NC), there were 6 duplicates online (1=NC) and 6 that don't show online. In both cases, the duplicates are counted as part of the group membership shown on the group home page.

I followed up on this. Setting it to All Mail seems to enable the Mute button only. Setting it to First Message Only seems to enable the Follow button only. Back to No Email and no extra buttons.

Like I mentioned in another thread, I just added a drop down when posting and replying on the site, letting you select plain text if you'd like.

Since the avowed purpose of the restriction is to protect the privacy of member's content, allowing the archives to be opened to non-members as long as the owner is the only member makes a lot of sense.

I'd go further and allow the archives to be opened to non-members as long as the only postings in the archives were made by owners or moderators; or are older than the date/time the archives were last made members-only. The first condition would allow having a larger team work on the start-up of the group. The second condition would allow an established group to correct an accidental (or malicious) switch to members-only archives - perhaps at the cost of deleting a few messages that arrived after the switch.

I think at least allowing a group to be switched if the group owner is the only member is reasonable (and easy enough to check for). The other criteria gets a lot more complicated, programmatically.  I've added it to the todo list.

Mark

LOL, which brings us full circle to my original post. Turns out the buttons are only visible when you've opened a thread from the Inbox view.

Because I have this subscription set to No Email possibly?
Possibly. The current implementation is tied to one's Email Delivery setting, and I think that ought not be so.

I changed it to 'Your Subscriptions'. I think that's definitely better, because on that page you can modify your subscriptions. I think 'Your Groups' in the black header makes sense because you use that to go to a particular group.

Unless someone has a better idea. :)

Judy,

I think I'd go with "Your Subscriptions" or even "Your Group Subscriptions"
- at least for the page tab. For the menu drop-down, where space is more at
a premium, "Subscriptions" alone may be sufficient.

I think the word "Your" serves to cue the user that this is a list of things
they already have. Otherwise ones eyes might scan right past it, thinking it
refers to things you're not looking for right now.

Like the "All My Groups" page in Yahoo Groups, I expect the "Your Groups"
(or "Your Group Subscriptions") page to be an essential resource  - at least
for those users with more than one group subscription. It should always be
one of the easy places for a novice user to find.

No worries. I actually just added that (you can switch the posting box from HTML to plain text, assuming the group supports HTML at all). It does not currently remember your setting, but that's on the todo list. I assume you composed your message and then saw the box and toggled it? It doesn't currently convert whatever you've typed so far into plain text.

Back to the original message. I just checked and could not duplicate your duplication bug. Let me know if there is a specific set of steps needed to duplicate it.

As for downloading members, it is currently restricted to confirmed users. Would you like it to be all users instead?

Thanks,

Duane,

I was baffled by the references to following and muting until I
realized that I probably won't see any of that since I have most of
my subscriptions set to NoEmail and the other 2 are set to All Email.
"Following" is still useful for those read by web - there's the "Followed Threads" tab of the Inbox page which can give you a concise list of the things you're interested in (rather than having to plow through the entire Inbox). "Muting", not so much.
