That's one of the things that changed with NEO. It used to have date/time, but they wanted to be like Facebook.

I'm not sure how Mark is going to do the date thing allowing different formats, but I think it could be used here for each person. I'm also not sure how the time is stored on messages, but I think it could be displayed in local time. The problem with that is if/when you start talking about a meeting or something, there may be folks in two or more different time zones. I think Yahoo just always used Pacific time and everyone adjusted their thinking.

Shal, I think it should be an option on/off. Our buying and selling group does not allow members to delete their ads for any reason. If they have to revise their ad, they are to resubmit it. With an on/off option, this would help us control those ads not being deleted/edited but a new one submitted.

Since this is only one group, I don't know if others have the same rule as us.

Judy,

Member can edit their own, moderator can edit anyone's, just like delete.

But no option to turn editing off. Mark said he is inclined to wait and see if a control is needed:

Frances I can’t remember if I indicated in my profile on Yahoo Groups what time zone I am in, I think I did, so my messages, etc. have the date/time for my time zone.

Hi

Facebook just has 1 hour. No date or time.

If you put time, I guess you need to put the initials of the time zone!

Would you need to select this when you set up your group?

Duane, Yahoo Groups also uses this minutes thing especially on pended messages, etc. I agree with you, I like just the date and time. If I want to know how long ago, I can subtract and get the number of hours.

Maybe the reason it is set up like that is due to the various time differences.

It's probably just me, but I'd prefer to see a Date/Time on messages, whether in the site Inbox or in a group's archives, instead of X minutes ago or Y days ago. Seems to make it easier for me to keep things straight.

How do others feel?

I agree. The date/time seems much clearer.

Email delivery would be clearer if "Daily digest" was "Daily digest + Special notices" said "Special notices will still be received individually"

This is nice in one sense, as it makes it easy to join groups in response to invitations.  One complaint over at Yahoo Groups is that some people can't figure out how to manage invitations, why is why they're always asking for the direct add feature back.  I assume here at Groups.IO, that if an invited person didn't already have an account set up, that person would be guided through the process, upon clicking the link, right?

Correct. If you don't yet have an account, you're asked to create a password, and an account is created as part of the invite process. If you do have an account, and if you're logged in as that person, it just asks you for your subscription preference. If you are logged in as a different person than the invite was for, you're logged out and asked to log in (or create a password if the other person doesn't have an account).

If the invite is for an existing account, you are automatically logged in. This is a security risk if someone else gets your invite email, which would have to be through some man in the middle attack, or from you forwarding your invite email after you received it. Seems a small risk.

I've thought about other instances along the same line. It'd be really great if the Unsubscribe link in the email footers was a one click unsubscribe, regardless of whether you were logged in or not. But I don't think that's safe.

Mark,

I also put Auto Follow Replies under Following Only, because that's
the only option that applies to it.
I note that a checkmark there disappears (leaving an empty gray box) when you click "All Messages", and does not reappear when you click "Following Only" again. Same if you click "No Email" and then click "Individual Messages" again.

There's a minor issue that I'd prefer that the prior state be retained when one switches and switches back.

The more major issue is that I think "Auto Follow Replies" is a useful option for members that have selected "Special Notices Only" or "No Email" because they prefer reading messages via the "Followed Threads" tab in their Groups.io Inbox. That's the use case that makes me think it should be broken out as a stand-alone option, unaffected by Email Delivery or Message Selection.

That's assuming the necessary changes are made to the Follow/Mute affordances so that one can manage one's Followed Threads without receiving email.

Unless I've completely misunderstood.

locked Strange Bug in creating a Wiki Page Title

Ellen

I successfully added new pages in the wiki in our CLLSLL +Mods group. I created a new page called "Newly Diagnosed", pasted in the text I wanted, and saved the page. I went to the Pages, submenu and selected that newly created page. However, when I went to open it, the Home Page of the Group opened instead.

I renamed the page. Pasted text, but the same thing happened. Then I created a couple of new pages with a few words of text. Those pages saved and opened as expected. I suspected the problem was with the text I pasted in. Originally the text was in RTF format. Then I pasted into Word. Then created a pdf. None of these worked.

I think I just figured it out. I wanted the name of the page to be Newly Diagnosed?.  Looks like you cannot put a question mark in the Title of the page.

I've updated the mockup.

I added a Special Notices Only delivery option. I also put Auto Follow Replies under Following Only, because that's the only option that applies to it. I also changed the wording of several options based on your feedback. And now it grays out options that aren't applicable.

Please check it out and let me know what you think.

Thanks,
Mark

Good idea. I've added it.

Yipes. I have checks in the code to prevent this kind of thing, but you found the one place that wasn't protected. I've fixed that, and will delete that group.

If I click on any of the groups shown, it sends me to the site home page https://groups.io/ instead of the group. All the links start with https://groups.io/group/ instead of https://groups.io/org/groupsio/

Gack! That's some dusty code. I've fixed the URLs and subgroups will no longer be displayed.

I've started dating my Yahoo! Group's description any time I make a change
to it. That way anyone stumbling upon it in the directory is able to see
that it was under active human control within the past few weeks. But
that's more of a Yahoo! Groups problem than one I'd expect to find here.
