Perhaps the group managers should be allowed to Edit this album. By
changing the Title they can control where it sorts in the album list
(relative to other albums, assuming an alphabetic view of the album
list). By adding a description they can tell their members what it is
(and isn't) used for.
I'm not so concerned about what it's called, but I see a huge need to be able to move some images to other albums. Otherwise it's going to turn into a jumble of files that makes no sense. I also see a need to be able to delete some attached images. If the system catches a big fancy signature file, we don't want another user grabbing that and using it improperly.

Another thing I'm concerned about is being able to move things in ''Files'' to ''Photos''. Because of how Y! messed with compression of photos for a while, we have people who just put everything into ''Files''. People would have a much easier time finding those images if they were moved to Photos and put into an album created by the list janitor. The original poster's ability to edit or delete the file would have to follow the file, though.

Mark - It makes more sense to me to have it 'off' by default so that people can check it after they've finished making all the changes they want to make to the events they're adding.

There isn't currently a way to disable it being checked by default.
Anyone else have a preference on this (default on or off)?

Wow, you were a busy little beaver today! Guess I'll go start testing all over again.

locked Site updates #changelog

Changes to the site today:

  • When viewing photos, there's now a Download button.
  • Changed photo formatting to a square pattern.
  • Much better photo thumbnail scaling and positioning.
  • Drag n drop uploading of photos.
  • Show album description when viewing a photo album.

Mark,

You'll see there's a default album, Emailed Photos, which contains all
the photos that have been sent as attachments to your group.

This doesn't change its functionality, but might improve its usability.
(I'm not suggesting an Add Photos or Delete button).

I had someone notify me this morning that on their iPad they can't see the Edit button in landscape mode (photo doesn't fit on screen). The photo window won't scroll to get to it, but the background (album) does. If they go to portrait, the button is visible though.

I think Mark just lets us know when something like this is initiated, then uses the #changelog when he's comfortable with it and announces it publicly. That seems to be the pattern so far anyway. Maybe there needs to be an #announcement, #beta, or #????

locked conformation of muted topics

hi all,

would it be possible that when you mute a topic on a group, you can get an email conformation that says something like... the topic such and such, from such and such group, has been muted

i think this is a great idea

thanks for reading my suggestion

I have come across cases where downloading is switched off (on other sites of
course) and it is easily defeated by saving a screen image and then cropping as
necessary. Would lose quality with high definition images of course, so might
then still meet the requirements of artists.

I know it's sometimes possible to disallow people the option to right click on
an image to save it.  Some artists might appreciate a way to display their work
without it being outright downloadable.  Not sure how possible that is to do
though.

If you look in the beta group's default folder, you'll see some photos appear blank, and if you click on them to look more closely and then use one of the arrows to go to another blank photo, it doesn't work so well.  I'm wondering if these are 1-pixel tracking images that some email services insert.  I would recommend excluding 1x1 pixel photos from the album.

About emailed photos:

On my iPhone the photos appear in the correct orientation.

On my Mac 10.10.2 (both with newest version of Chrome as well as newest version of Safari) the Emailed Photos album has the photos rotated.

My son checked the image URL from the HTML source in Chrome and it is rotated correctly. The image are sideways when viewed on the Groups.io page, in both the gallery and zoomed view.

In Shearingfamily group, here's an example:

I've only done a quick test, but have a serious concern. There doesn't seem to be a "baseline" for photos. If they were all the same size and dimensions, it wouldn't matter. If I upload several photos of various dimensions, they may or may not be in what would appear to be correct order. The first 4 (on my screen) are on a row, though one (3rd) descends lower than the others. When I upload the 5th, it goes below the 1st, but not below the lowest portion of the 3rd (taller one). Further uploads resulting in more rows can make it really look out of whack. A neat row by row display would be much more appealing. I think that the bottom of each row should line up and be totally separate from any other row. In other words, a simple grid pattern. This should also make it easier to insert the information that Shal suggested, just below the photo.

Thanks for at least having the capability to upload Photos. I'll still wait a bit before moving over my remaining groups from BigTent, but this was the major feature we were waiting for.

Sorry, just noticed they have the changelog tag. Missed this because the last thread didn't have it.

locked Any chance that announcements about new features could be assigned the feature tag?

I would like to be able to automatically follow any thread discussing newly released features. In order to do this, these thread would need to be tagged with the feature tag.

Hi Mark,

How do you delete the emailed photos? In my family group, we seem to have duplicated photos. Love to eliminate those.
Also can I rotate them? The photos are sideways.

BTW, I did change the settings so I as list-owner should be able to do whatever is necessary.

Frances

Only the person who uploaded a photo and the moderators can edit or delete a photo.

You'll see there's a default album, Emailed Photos, which contains all the photos that have been sent as attachments to your group.

Glad to hear about the resizing, but the default album is another thing. We have some members on the Yahoo Groups that will attach photos to their ad and we then have to send it back to redo. I would like to see the option to turn it off by the moderators.

Thanks so much,

Hi Mark, the only question I have is the default album. Can that be turned off for a group? Our buying and selling group doesn't allow attachments in emails. Also, will it be a requirement to resize the photos? I hope not since most users have a hard time adding the photos and the required information let along resizing the photos.
I hadn't thought about turning off the default album. I can make it not appear if there have been no photos sent to the group.

Resizing takes place on our servers, you don't have to do anything and can upload photos of any size (up to 20MB).

Thanks,

Glad to see this added. I'm sure the admins will want to be able to invite specific people to edit particular albums, but I know the implementation of this would be much, much more complex, so I can understand this not be implemented in the initial version.
