No desire to use a client. If Mark says he's got a workaround planned, I'll just wait and see if that fixes it for me.

I have another way to do a workaround, but that won't solve the issue for my non-techie members so I'm hoping Mark's idea will work.

Actually, I like the current setup for a group  home page. Very clean. Basic info is there. My banner photo actually fit on the first try since I was made aware of the actual size it needed to be. Nicely done.

I do wonder why "recent photos" show up on the home page though. Seems like an odd spot for them and they bump the group email addresses further down the page.

Trish,

She always checks her spam folder.
Don't know what to tell you. Yahoo Groups broke their bounce history mechanism with the Neo roll-out, so there's no evidence of what happened for an intermittent delivery failure.

At least the Email Delivery History in Groups.io Subscription pages work, so if she encounters a problem here there's a chance of figuring out what went wrong.

"About Me" might be a useful option for some folks.  I doubt I'd ever use it though.

She should look in her spam folder for the occasionally not. AOL and Yahoo Mail are both prone to putting list messages in spam, especially when the From address is your own.

Added to the todo list.

  1. Will you still make it where we can set the default text option for replies, or are we no longer going to get to choose a default, since you added Markdown? Is it just not done yet?

You can now set your own default. And you can change at the time that you're replying, if you want.

Took me a few minutes to find Post Preference. For others looking, it's at Profile, Edit Profile, 4th box down and applies to all groups you belong to. One thing I noticed: If I type something before clicking Show Message History, it replaces my typing with the message. Not a big thing since I'd normally click it first, but not quite what I'd expect - inserting at the cursor.

Thanks,

I think it was just the one URL change: /org/groupsio/beta/archives -> /org/groupsio/beta/threads

Yes, I'm all for it! Once Y! Groups transfer is working, I'll look into Google Groups. I don't think it'll be much different.

Doesn't look like those were sent from us. We sent you an email right before midnight CST last night, and before that at 2:19pm CST yesterday.

Hi All,

I just pushed a few updates:

  • There's a new user preference, Post Preference, where you can specify your default post/reply box (HTML, Markdown, Plain).
  • For Markdown and Plain reply boxes, there's a new Show Message History button, that works similarly to how Y! Groups' button works, to insert the quoted message in the reply box. Figuring out replies and how to quote them is not easy, which is why this is currently not enabled for HTML replies, which are much more difficult. It uses a simple algorithm right now, which generally works for plain text and markdown. I will improve it over time.
  • Emoji are now enabled for Markdown messages cat bowtie smile . You can see the full list of emoji at Emoji Cheat Sheet.

locked Re: Not getting copies of messages I sent to my group

Trish,

For my group this isn't a want, it's a definite need. My users will
freak if they don't get a confirmation their message went through to the
group. It's one of the reasons we're looking to migrate off of Wiggio.
To be clear, Groups.io is sending their own posts back. Whether they can see the returned messages in their email service depends on the service. For Gmail not, usually, but there's a lot of confusion out there about work-arounds to the problem.

I don't know about Wiggio, but the same issue is a perennial topic in Yahoo Groups help lists.

I think for us what would work best is to have it as the ability to set
it as a group setting with the option for individual members to opt out
if desired.
I disagree. The issue email service specific not group specific; so the tools to resolve it belong with the member's profile or subscription not the group settings.

Also, another user in my test group is on gmail and she's getting copies
of her messages. So people who are thinking this is being caused solely
by gmail, I don't think that's it.
It is caused by Gmail, and some other services. But there are various ways to get around it and so some people report that they do get copies back. Much more detail is needed to understand the situation.

Another tester is on AOL and she seems to be getting her messages back
most of the time but occasionally not.
She should look in her spam folder for the occasionally not. AOL and Yahoo Mail are both prone to putting list messages in spam, especially when the From address is your own.

I don’t know if this is a bug or not, but whenever an edited message comes through, I check to see what the change was.  In this case Brenda did some spacing corrections.  Should that spacing be shown ?  I’m not asking that it should, just didn’t know if the intent was to show everything that was edited.  I did read the comment so that’s how I knew what the change was.

There is no "coming back" because they wouldn't be coming "back" to Yahoo, they would be moving "forward" to IO.

And I guarantee you, that if IO gets a database feature, they will come. It's been the one major thing we've been unable to find in any other alternative to Yahoo Groups.

Most of the time I'd rather have my group posts shown as from me. Only in rare instances would I want to reinforce the fact that I'm the group owner/moderator. I believe that on Yahoo Classic, one of the posting options was to select whether it was from me or groupowner. Default was me, but I could select groupowner when needed.

My group owner solved the problem by creating an
email that was the name of the group owner, no name
attached.

Even Classic didn't have that option at first!

If you want a copy you have to send it from the groups webpage (or

that message is already in your archives. So it cannot duplicate it.

It's a pain in the butt, but I understand the logic behind it.
