Good on you sir. If members were able to unban themselves, there would sure be uproar from this community. I would join in with the uproar for sure. Cheers!

Hi

What is the point of that, it would be pointless to have owners.

That's amazing!  I think you just made a few RPG groups VERY excited.  Also maybe Freecycler-types?  GREAT call on Orgs.

I'd like to make a suggestion.

If the part below your reply starting with "Do you have a problem navigating social media..." is a signature, maybe add a line above it or broken dotted line or something that separates it from your reply. When I first read it in your reply to Marvin, it looked like it was a continuation of your response to Marvin.

Just a suggestion. :)

Have a good day!

This is not a good idea.  If this happened, then that  would mean those that were banned for a legitimate reason would unban themselves and go on their merry way.  When a person is banned or thinks they are banned, at that point they should contact the owner of the group to find out why.

Hi.

A friend of mine tried to subscribe to a couple of groups, and was denied.

One of them think he is banned.

Would be a nice feature, if members or possible members could unban them selves.

Or if they have a beef with the owners or the mods, and not unbanning, then what recourse does my friend have.

Any thoughts.

A member attempted to upload 3 photos. It said they uploaded, but don't show in the album. I also tried to upload. The album says there are now 9 photos (3 copies of 3 pix), but none of them are visible.

I checked the activity log and it says they were all uploaded to album id=0 instead of the number for the one that was created.

I have started working on getting organizations working again/better. An org is a collection of groups under a subdomain (like wingedpig.groups.io).. You can think of an org as being like a private version of Groups.io. People become members of an org and then can join groups within the org (and create new groups within the org, if permissions allow). An org is private; groups within an org are not listed in the groups..io directory, they have their own directory visible to org members. Also, groups within an org can be unlisted within the org itself. Groups within an org have all the same moderation tools as stand-alone groups. Orgs will be free with some kind of paid tier. Of course, regular stand-alone groups will still exist as well.

Thanks,

No worries. The ability to ban someone (or any of the other moderator controls) will not go away.

Hi Mark, that's not what he's morning. He's wanting members, are banned from groups, to be able to post and I'm banned themselves. Which way did beat the purpose of having moderators and owners. Hopefully this clarifies what Marvin's morning.

Edited

I am way behind reading in here, so I apologize for that.

But I saw this topic and had to weigh in.

Marvin, banning is absolutely necessary for group owners and moderators to have sole control of. If not, like Trish and others have pointed out, people who are bent on causing trouble, hurting others, or even just spammers would be uncontrollable.

Think of this as an example. If there was a support group about women who had been sexually abused and a known sexual abuser joined it, how would they stop him from harassing them or finding ways to get at them if they weren't able to be banned?

Or if there was a support group for gays and lesbians, and a gay hater joined it, they would be forced to be subject to cruel and hurtful behavior if the owner of the group couldn't ban them.

If your friend has a problem with the owners of the group, he needs to write them and ask ask them if he is indeed banned, why he is banned, what the problem is, and if it could be solved another way. If they are determined not to let him in, he isn't going to get in, sorry. It's no different really than businesses who have the right to refuse service to anyone.

It's only the owners and moderators who have that power to ban and unban. And I agree with Vickie, I would want no part of any service that ever gave that power to the invididual member. I had an ex-fiance who stalked me both online and off for awhile, and that would be another dangerous scenario that could come about, someone bent on following someone they had a grudge against, and use that knowledge to hurt them.

Nope. BAD idea. Mark, don't even consider it.

Thanks,

Brenda

Hi Marvin, really are you seriously going to come over here and request the kind of features you would rather make it harder for the owners and the moderators to deal with their groups you were warned a few times

Do you have a problem navigating social media? Do you find that email is the best way to communicate, are you interested in meeting new people and making new friends? Then we have created a group for you.this group, is where blind and deaf individuals can get together and socialize in communicate. If you were interested please subscribe here.

I agree with Trish and Mike..
It's insane to think a member can unban himself.. A scary thought for many reasons.
I personally would close down the group if that option was available. .

I agree with Mike. That would make the ban feature useless. I can't see any reason why any groups service would develop that feature as it would allow troublemakers and spammers to keep rejoining groups. People would leave the service in droves.

There's thousands of groups out there on multiple services. Your friend should just go look for groups with similar topics and join those.

That makes no sense.
You should find another group or start one.

Or write directly to the -owner address and ask why they are
banned if they don't know.

I do know that if an address is no longer used by person A,
person B could get that address - so if they can prove they
are a real person or a different person, the owner may let
them join (I had that problem - one owner was rejecting any
"non-big-name-domain" email on the theory that it was a spam
made up email. Wrote to him and surprised him. Think I may
have changed his thinking - since it was the time when it
was getting popular to have your own domain).
