Re: Suggestion for files section
Steph,
I would like to suggest the ability to set auto send sequence to filesI agree with Trish, the scheduling capabilities of the event calendar are far superior to Yahoo Groups' scheduled files mechanism (which always struck me as an unnatural kludge). All that's missing, I think, is a way to attach a file to the reminder - to handle sending PDF's or other data formats. Maybe a link to the file will work, since one can put links into an event's description. https://groups.io/org/groupsio/beta/message/191 -- Shal

Re: Suggestion for files section
Trish,
Would love to be able to create/edit content of text files in the FilesThat would be handy. But also don't forget that Groups.io has a Wiki feature you can use to create editable rich-text pages. The Wiki isn't always the right answer, but many times Files were used in Yahoo Groups because that's all it had for group rules, instructions, and other text information. Pick the feature (Files or Wiki) that best suits how you want to organize and maintain the information. -- Shal

Re: New feature: Photos
Related to Recent Photos - I wonder why the photos added to the Photo section don't count as recent. These are the ones harder to feature. Everyone has seen the emailed ones, but not necessarily the uploaded ones. Thanks, Mark, for saying you will work on rotation! Didn't mean to nag. Frances

I'm currently using the calendar to serve as an autoreminder feature.

That ability is there. I just had to manually go through my mods and co-owner's an d my settings and fix it the way I want it. Steph

Re: New feature: Photos
Hi, my question is related to Photos. It concerns Recent Photos that appear on the group home page. One of the members in the group sent a photo as an attachment. The message was from 2-16-15. The photo still shows as a Recent Photo. At what point are photos no longer considered to be Recent? Also, when photos are uploaded to an album, wouldn't they also be considered as Recent Photos? On March 28, I uploaded 3 photos to an album. But there is no indication on the group home page that there are new photos. Could somebody clarify as to what counts as Recent Photos?

Hmm at the moment the main photo album in my group is just half a dozen very large and pixilated emoticons! is there a way of setting the emailed photo album to NOT show on the front page? Re: New feature: Photos
Hey all,
Thanks for all the photos feedback, please keep it coming. I'll be working on the rotation issue next. In case you were wondering, the reason why some photos are not oriented correctly is that browsers (generally) don't pay attention to EXIF data in a photo. EXIF data can be several things; one of which specifies that an image should be rotated a specific way. I need to parse out the EXIF data on the server and then specify how the image should be rotated. I think I know how I'm going to do it, but it'll take a little work. Then I'll move on to deleting attachments. Thanks, Mark

Otherwise it's going to > turn into a jumble of files that makes no sense. This particular album, the "Emailed Photos", is special. I think, like Flickr/Yahoo Groups' Photostream, it is supposed to be a simple chronological list of the images captured from email. This is a little different from Yahoo Groups' "Photomatic" albums, which have an album of photos per message. Maybe that could be done in Groups.io once there's a sub-album capability. I think each photo in "Emailed Photos" should have a link back to the message. Moving these photos to another album would make no sense, that would break the special meaning of this album. But the ability to place a copy in a regular album might make sense. > I also see a need to be able to delete some attached images. If the > system catches a big fancy signature file, we don't want another user > grabbing that and using it improperly. That's where the link back to the message would be useful, together with the ability to delete an attachment without deleting the whole message. > Another thing I'm concerned about is being able to move things in > ''Files'' to ''Photos''. ... > People would have a much easier time finding those images > if they were moved to Photos and put into an album created by the > list janitor. That issue may already be present in some Groups.io groups, given that Files were available before Photos. -- Shal

Thanks, Shal. Those are all good points. I like the idea of moving a copy, unless there was a way that link could follow the image if it were moved.
