Hello everyone,
The subject says it all. It would be quite nice to receive confirmation that a member has been subscribed after an owner or moderator approves the pending subscription.
Thank you, take care.

Hi, my question is related to Photos.  It concerns Recent Photos that appear on the group home page.  One of the members in the group sent a photo as an attachment.  The message was from 2-16-15.  The photo still shows as a Recent Photo.  At what point are photos no longer considered to be Recent?

Also, when photos are uploaded to an album, wouldn't they also be considered as Recent Photos?  On March 28, I uploaded 3 photos to an album.  But there is no indication on the group home page that there are new photos.

Could somebody clarify as to what counts as Recent Photos?

Hmm at the moment the main photo album in my group is just half a dozen very large and pixilated emoticons! is there a way of setting the emailed photo album to NOT show on the front page?

If your group is set to strip attachments and/or has no messages with image attachments, that folder will not appear. And when it does show up, there's no way to add photos to it.

Hey all,

Thanks for all the photos feedback, please keep it coming. I'll be
working on the rotation issue next. In case you were wondering, the
reason why some photos are not oriented correctly is that browsers
(generally) don't pay attention to EXIF data in a photo. EXIF data can
be several things; one of which specifies that an image should be
rotated a specific way. I need to parse out the EXIF data on the
server and then specify how the image should be rotated. I think I
know how I'm going to do it, but it'll take a little work.

Then I'll move on to deleting attachments.

Thanks,
Mark

This particular album, the "Emailed Photos", is special. I think, like Flickr/Yahoo Groups' Photostream, it is supposed to be a simple chronological list of the images captured from email.

This is a little different from Yahoo Groups' "Photomatic" albums, which have an album of photos per message. Maybe that could be done in Groups.io once there's a sub-album capability.

I think each photo in "Emailed Photos" should have a link back to the message.

Moving these photos to another album would make no sense, that would break the special meaning of this album. But the ability to place a copy in a regular album might make sense.

That's where the link back to the message would be useful, together with the ability to delete an attachment without deleting the whole message.

Good point. That issue may already be present in some Groups.io groups, given that Files were available before Photos.

Thanks, Shal. Those are all good points. I like the idea of moving a copy, unless there was a way that link could follow the image if it were moved.

Dano,

I'm not so concerned about what it's called, but I see a huge need to
be able to move some images to other albums. Otherwise it's going to
turn into a jumble of files that makes no sense.

And I want to be able to rotate the emailed photos. Right now, I think they are useless since they are all sideways or upside-down!

Another thing I'm concerned about is being able to move things in ''Files'' to ''Photos''. Because of how Y! messed with compression of photos for a while, we have people who just put everything into ''Files''. People would have a much easier time finding those images if they were moved to Photos and put into an album created by the list janitor. The original poster's ability to edit or delete the file would have to follow the file, though.

Mark - It makes more sense to me to have it 'off' by default so that people can check it after they've finished making all the changes they want to make to the events they're adding.

There isn't currently a way to disable it being checked by default.
Anyone else have a preference on this (default on or off)?

Changes to the site today:

  • When viewing photos, there's now a Download button.
  • Changed photo formatting to a square pattern.
  • Much better photo thumbnail scaling and positioning.
  • Drag n drop uploading of photos.
  • Show album description when viewing a photo album.

Mark,

You'll see there's a default album, Emailed Photos, which contains all
the photos that have been sent as attachments to your group.
Perhaps the group managers should be allowed to Edit this album. By changing the Title they can control where it sorts in the album list (relative to other albums, assuming an alphabetic view of the album list). By adding a description they can tell their members what it is (and isn't) used for.

This doesn't change its functionality, but might improve its usability.
(I'm not suggesting an Add Photos or Delete button).

I had someone notify me this morning that on their iPad they can't see the Edit button in landscape mode (photo doesn't fit on screen). The photo window won't scroll to get to it, but the background (album) does. If they go to portrait, the button is visible though.
