And yes, the message sent is different than what the Direct Add dialog says it is going to send.  What you see in the Direct Add dialog is not the truth.

moderated Re: Delayed email delivery #outage

Mark,

Just letting you know that something is still awry (which may or may not be related to the glitch). About 10 minutes ago, I ran a test with a test member subscribing via email to a restricted group. The member received and succesfully replied to the confirmation email, but the email delivery history still shows "no email deliveries." That would normally cause me to resend it (not knowing they actually got it). Also, they did not receive the pending member email at all. This is a gmail address.

Hopefully this will all iron itself out eventually. I can send you details offlist if you want them, and/or just wait and hope for the best.

Thanks.

Just look at at any "You have been added to ..." email sent by the system to anyone who was Direct Added.   Or see attached screenshot.

You could go into the members’s list, select all (may need to be just a page at a time) and change their delivery to one of the digest modes.  Daily summary is good as it gives you an idea of how active a topic is but might not be timely enough for your situation.  Not exactly what you are asking but might help.

Stay well in this difficult time.

Mark, this is the bug report I was saying you could ignore and delete. I think the whole thing was caused by the system glitch you just reported.

We ran into a problem last night trying to resend some invites, where we were sending a new invite to several people who had been sent invites in the past. We sent new invites to avoid the (previously reported) issue wherein you can't change obsolete custom text when resending. At first the invites did not go through at all, and were logged on the "sent invite" page as "sending" rather than sent. That was still the case this morning, so we resent at that point. When we resent them this morning, they went through. However, and here's the bug: when clicking on the "invited" column to see exactly which ones were (successfully) sent this morning, only three of the six showed up in the correct date order, i.e., at the top, for this morning. The other three, although also sent at the same time, showed up way down in the list, as if ordered by their originally invited dates.

This is a minor problem in the big scheme of things but made it very hard to sort out who successfully received the new invites today and who did not.

Bug: it seems that the date sent for (some? which ones I'm not sure of) invites that were previously sent in the past is not updated when resent.

Mark,I think there might still be a delay. I resent several confirmation emails a few minutes ago and the people are showing no email deliveries in their history.

moderated Generate cal-summary emails based upon local timezone #suggestion

Andy Wedge

Hi,

our #cal-summary emails have been generated at 07:00 (UTC) each Friday morning until the last couple of weeks when they have been created at 06:00. I suspect this is because of a clock change in the US which has reduced the time difference to the UK by one hour for now (UK clocks change at the end of March).

Can the generation of the #cal-summary emails be based upon local timezone along the lines of recent changes to digest emails?  Further down the line perhaps it would be good to have more flexibility on when the #cal-summary is generated.

Thanks,
Andy

Thx for approving. The problem of special notices and all members on digest:
1. Also those who explicitely wanted to be only on digest will receive extra messages ( special notices) and hence feel „ flooded“
2. The term „special notice“ implies certain messages are *special* (while the rest is just ordinary). Again list members not getting the special privilege will feel discriminated and start to ask themselves: why my msg hasn‘t got the *special notice* tag?

Sorry for insisting, but thats unfortunately the way peoples mind works.
Its a problem, when the message traffic is high and a kind of inconspicuous ‚triage’ becomes a necessity, in order not to loose list members.

moderated Subject of Invitation Email Should Show "Group Title" (instead of Group Email Address) #suggestion

Kumāra Bhikkhu

My current Invitation emails shows
Invitation to join the KBlist@groups.io group

It can look a lot like spam, esp when I have my co-moderator do the inviting (since the recipient may not know her).

If it's like this instead:
Invitation to join the "Kumāra Bhikkhu News & Teachings" group
then it's far more complete *and* clearer as to what the group is about.

An added benefit of this is about being more future-proof: If the group's focus has changed (e.g., broaden to include more things, or narrowed), the owner can easily change the Group Title to reflect that, and it shows accordingly in the invitation email.

I think this way makes the invitation mail far more inviting!

Please seriously consider this. Thank you!
