I could live with either, although I would hope you'd left-justify the subjects section in the shorter example, really hate the centered subject lines there, hard to read.  If I had to choose one, it would probably be the longer one, as it's less busy and I don't have to "click to see more," I can just scroll, scroll, scroll.

I think a tweak to put the group name above the photo on the Home page would be nice, but I wonder if it would get "lost" because it would be separate from the other text.

Thread View, Message View, and Expanded Message View all have search boxes. Once you've clicked on a message they change though. It goes away in Thread View and you can only use message numbers in Message View.

Hello,
So, I've tried to view the archive of a list, that is private, and I'm not subscribed to. HOWEVER, the error message I got questioned me. It says: "You are not subscribed to that group." Given the fact that I'm currently on it's home page, shouldn't it be this group? As I said, it could just be me, but this rather than that, in my opinion, makes sense.

I don't use email much for groups, but find the shorter one to be easier to follow. I would suggest that the top blue bar, "Do not reply..." be another color, possibly red or something bright that will stand out to get people's attention. I would imagine that there will still be those that won't notice anyway though.

I like the shorter one with the blue it is easier to read and very clean looking.

It is on the page with the list of posts or archive index. I wish it was included on all pages.

Hi Mark,
I got this message in the beta digest.  It was clear, which graphic represented which mockup.  When I clicked the link to View The Message:  https://groups.io/g/beta/message/5182 it was not clear which mockup was which, as the graphics were not named.  (The URLs are counterintuitive.)

Digest 1 is my preference (Digest 1 is the one with the blue).

I’m viewing on a computer, not a smartphone.

FYI: in the Reply To This Message link in Digest 1 , “reply=1” is wrapped out of the URL.

Thank you for all you do!

Mark,

I have a proposal about the no password/reset password/lost password
system. Please let me know what you think:
Sounds perfect to me.

The password-averse get a means to use the site without ever having to create one, the traditionalist can continue using a password if he/she prefers.

- You get emailed a link. The link doesn't contain your email address in
it, just a bunch of numbers.
A cryptographic nonce, presumably.

Along with the explanation that the link will expire, the text could say that the link is as valuable as a key or password: it lets whoever has it into your account - so don't give it to anyone else.

Once you're logged in, you can go into your profile and set/change your
password if you choose. Or you can just use this system to always log in.
Could there also be a way to repudiate your existing password (if you have one), leaving only email sign-in available for your account (until you set a new password)?

My hope is that this might reduce confusion.
I may have to re-think my join flow proposal accordingly. Maybe this converges with email address verification, unifying my parts 2 and 3.

locked Searching Archives Messages Modes #bug?

Nightowl >8#

Mark,

When searching Archives that are older on Groups.io, I've found that if I want to view the older searched (collected by search tool) posts in Thread View, when I choose Thread View, it loses my search entries and throws me back to the last post in the group.

Can that be changed to allow searching in any mode to retain your search criteria and only switch the post you're looking at?

Thanks,

Brenda

Hello,
Aren't they setting it up within their email client?

Duane,

If it's not on the TO DO list, how can some people have one? Some posters in here have a signature line. How are they doing that?

When in messages there is a search box in the upper right corner.

I would guess it's coming from their email signature line, if they have one and post via email.

Brenda, maybe they are typing it in or if they are sending the email from their email program and they have a signature line set up, I would think it would appear in the groups.io message also.

Mark -

Personally I prefer Digest 1, mostly for the flush left and because, even though the text is smaller, it seems easier to read. The wide blue band in Digest 1 seems to be a distraction. Will an HTML digest retain the individual fonts in the various messages or convert them to one preferred font?

Hi All,

I've been working on HTML digests. Attached are two mockups. Do you have a favorite?

I like 1 the best.   It’s easier to read the various section while 2 seems to blur together.  I know this isn’t very technical, but…….

locked Lost passwords, no passwords and reset password, oh my

Hi All,

I have a proposal about the no password/reset password/lost password system. Please let me know what you think:

- The login screen is as it is now, except replace the 'Forgot your password or don't have a password?' link with 'Email me a link to log in.'
- That link takes you to a page to enter your email address.
- You get emailed a link. The link doesn't contain your email address in it, just a bunch of numbers.
- Clicking the link logs you in and takes you to the Groups page (i.e. the home page).
- Clicking the link immediately disables the link for future use.
- If the link isn't clicked on in 15 minutes, it's automatically disabled (the email will tell you at what time it expires).
- You're logged in for the standard amount of time (30 days).
- Clicking on a disabled/expired link takes you to a page that tells you this and gives you the opportunity to have another email sent to you.

Once you're logged in, you can go into your profile and set/change your password if you choose. Or you can just use this system to always log in.

My hope is that this might reduce confusion. Of course it won't help the situation where someone isn't receiving emails from us at all.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark
