To clarify: Will each device stay logged in for the 30 days allowed unless signed out? (it seems to for me.) Does logging out on one device also log out the others? (they seem to be totally independent on my machines.)

Hi Vickie,

For member A, that's weird. The only places you can set your timezone are when editing your profile or viewing the calendar, both of which require you to be logged in. Can you send me their email address off-list? I'd like to trace which pages they visited.

For member B, they have to log in on each device. That's the same with every website. If she uses the same email address to log in, she'll see the same groups, etc. Could she have multiple email addresses and is inadvertently using different ones when logging in?

We don't reformat messages, so I'm not sure how it'd be different from Y! Groups. Is it all messages, or only some. If it's only some, if you send me a pointer to one of the messages off-list, I can investigate.

No problems with Yahoo Mail right now. Messages are going through. As a first step, I'd check their Email Delivery History and see what that says.

I got the following email from a member who uses yahoo mail:

"Suddenly (well, since Monday), I can't get or send messages.  Is anyone else having a problem?  I get an error message:  "No internet connection," which is not true."

She sent that to me in an email, so obviously she has an internet connection.

I've sent a message to my group asking anyone else having posting problems to contact me offlist (but obviously, if they're not receiving messages either, like the member above, they won't get that message).

Is Groups.io having known issues with yahoo mail recently? (I realize that's a bit redundant, since there are always problems with yahoo mail…)

Terry,

Didn't work. Clicked on 'Joined' and yahoo keeps trying to reload the 31-60 group.
Go back to the Manage Members list then try Ctrl+F5 to re-sync your browser with Yahoo's servers. Wait for the page to fully load. Don't attempted to scroll down, just click Joined once, and wait for the page to fully load. If that brings the oldest member to the top click Joined again, and again wait for it to fully load.

How long to wait? Until the browser indicates that it is done. How long might that take? Hard to say, it depends on many factors, including your internet connection, your browser, and your computer.

If that doesn't work, try the rest of the browser ritual.

locked Site Updates #changelog

Changes to the site since Friday:

  • CHANGE: If someone clicks an expired login link, but they're already logged in, we redirect them to the home page and display a message telling them that they're logged in.
  • CHANGE: Added '... and can only be used once.' to the login link email.
  • BUGFIX: We didn't handle question marks correctly in directory or file names in the Files section.
  • BUGFIX: When editing a pending message that's HTML, not UTF-8 encoded, and contains HTML entities like smart quotes, the entities were not converted back properly. We now change the message encoding to UTF-8.
  • BUGFIX: When sending a message to a member, Gmail will no longer display phishing warnings.
  • NEW: Multi select multiple choice field for database tables.
  • NEW: You can select a color for each column in a database table.
  • CHANGE: Decreased the width of selects when adding rows in a database.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed IE11 on Windows 7 login issue with Email login link.
  • BUGFIX: Fixed database permissions issue.
  • CHANGE: For Emailed Login Links, ignore a list of 'link preview crawlers' that would prematurely expire the login link.

Cheers, Mark

locked Re: HTML digests

Duane,

If a group is set to Plain Text Only (also No Attachments on a couple),
would the HTML Digest be any different than the one we have now?
Yes.

As I understand it the primary motivation for making an HTML digest is to enable the list of topics at the top to be formatted as links to the start of each thread within the digest. Likewise, one can then have "back to top" as one of the per-message links. Such links cannot be made in plain text.

It also makes other per-message functions less obtrusive (a short text rather than a long ugly URL).

The formatting of the message content (HTML within the original message bodies) I think should be stripped even when the digest structure is implemented in HTML. Otherwise the content of the digest could become very difficult to read.

Maybe have the HTML Digest be an option set by moderators.
I don't think there's any need for moderator control of that at the group level. But I wouldn't object to the moderator being able to adjust a member's control, through their Membership page, just as the moderator can adjust a member's other subscription settings.

Hi Terry,
You have to add that email address to your group, set it to no mail, set it as a moderator giving it permission to do things with your members section of your group and other things, then send an email to support@groups.io letting them know the name of your yahoo group you added the transfer address too as well as the name of the group you're trying to get them transferred too that is on Groups.io. Then you just got to wait till the transfer is completed.

I hope that this helps, Steph

Okay - I'm stumped. I invited everyone in my yahoo group to join the groups.io group - but apparently most of them didn't get the invitation. So now I want to try the 'easy transfer' method.

I'm ready to transfer my group to io, but can't see how to do it. I invited transfer@groups.io to join my group - but how does transfer@groups.io actually join? I can't add the address - Yahoo won't let me. So now what? (feeling rather dumb for not having followed this thread from the beginning.)
