locked HTML digests

Hi all,

HTML digests are about ready. There are a couple of things I'd like your feedback on before I roll them out:

- As much as I hate adding additional options, I think probably adding another option to the Email Delivery section of a subscription to select HTML digests is the way to go (in other words you can select between the current, plain text digest or the new HTML digest).

- What should I call these? Doesn't Yahoo refer to them as full-featured digests or some such? I'm not particularly fond of 'HTML Digest' because I don't think that has much meaning to most people.

- I think once these are rolled out and tested, I'll add a line at the top of the plain text digests announcing the new type of digest with a link to switch.

Thoughts?

Thanks,
Mark

locked reports of text wrapping from member using aol

I'm not sure whether Groups.io has any control over this, but a member using aol reports that she can't read posts in email because of the text wrapping. She says this didn't happen in Yahoo Groups. Can anything be done for her and others using aol?

Never had even a second's delay before, and a couple of members reported six hours or more in the past. I hope you're right!

Olivia ,

I had delays  also..  but not six hrs delay..

But I would ask, if a moderator creates a file  would  mod and members  receive a notice about it.
I found the notice in the thread but I never revived it in my inbox account.. Delay?

locked post appearing on site took 10 minutes to come thru in email

I'm not sure what's going on with a 10-minute delay just now in a post making it to email. I'd heard this complaint from some of my members in the past but only now experienced it myself. I hope this is not a harbinger of Yahoo-like things to come!

locked Re: Log In Problem

Hi Mark,

I went through the logs and traced your member's path. Here's what they did:

- They were not logged in
- They went to your group home page. It displayed the 'Join this Group' button, which they clicked.
- They then entered their email address on the join page.
- The email address was already registered, so they got the error message saying that, with a link to the login page.
- They clicked that, and got the login page.
- They entered their email address and password and clicked login.
- Their account doesn't have a password set (because they were added in a group transfer or joined via email), so they were automatically emailed a link to login.
- They clicked that link and were successfully logged in, and then were automatically redirected back to the join group page, which started this process.
- We saw that they were already a member of the group. At this point, there was a bug and we displayed a blank page.
- They then repeated this process, with the same final result of a blank page.

I've done two things. First, I fixed the bug that displayed a blank page. Now if you go through the join group process and we determine that you're already a member, you're just redirected to the group home page.

Second, I added a sentence in the join group page, saying: If you are already a member of GROUPNAME, Log In to access the group (with Log In being a link to the login page).

Please have them try again, and let me know if they have any issues.

Thanks,
Mark

locked re-sending: toggle "send me my own messages" is reversed

I have "always send me my own messages" unchecked in my profile, yet I always (100% of the time) receive copies of my own messages.

In a completely separate, second account (separate email, used for separate groups), I have the box checked. In *that* account, I do not receive the copies.

This problem started only after I created the second account, which makes me wonder if the system somehow conflated the two accounts at some point. (I use two different browsers, but have been loose about which browser I use to log in to which account.)

Mark, I can send you the details offlist if this seems not to be an issue for anyone else. The last time I posted about this (I can't seem to find that thread now), other people said it was working for them.

locked save text of personalized invitation #suggestion

It's great that the text of a message-rejection notice is saved in the activity log. I'd love to also be able to see the text that I sent with an invite. Is it possibly saved somewhere and I just can't find it?

You overlooked one little detail:

"[ALERT] The new neo interface has broken the script and I have not found any easy way to work with it. For now the script is not being actively maintained till a solution materializes to access the relevant data easily."

There has been some discussion about folks using PG Offline (http://www.personalgroupware.com/) to get the information they need. It's also in a state of flux because they started over when NEO came on the scene. I used it a couple of years ago to make my own archives of some groups and it worked fine as far as it went then. It looks like they've added a lot of things back in, so probably worth checking out. There is a free 30 day trial available.

I just noticed that when replying on a moderated group, there's no indication that my post is awaiting approval, nor that I posted. It just closes the Reply box and shows the post I replied to. I think it used to present a bar saying"Your message has been sent" or "awaiting approval" or something similar.

I checked it and the "banned" message, like the others, is blank unless you put something in there. So maybe they're told when they try to join. I personally think that's a good idea, but maybe it could be turned into an option.

If you are banned from a group, the group is not listed in the Your Groups dropdown, nor is it listed on your home page. If you go to a group home page, it will say that you are banned, and won't display the Join/Apply button.

I think the warnings are done on a case by case basis. I'm unable to duplicate it, for example.

Off-list, can you send me the headers for one of the messages that you get the warning from? To do that in Gmail, use the drop down at the top right of the message and select Show Original. Then copy all the message headers and send them to me in a new email. Gmail embeds some authentication information in those, which may show what's happening.

At the bottom of every email, in the footer that we add, if the message is tagged with a hashtag, there's a link to mute that hashtag. Have your member click that link and they'll not receive any more messages muted with that hashtag.

Hope this helps.

Armando,

I have a question about muting hashtags. Can members of my group mute hashtags?
Yes.

When a member mutes a hashtag (or a thread) that prevents future messages with that hashtag (or in that thread) from being sent to that member. It has no effect on other members.

How do I mute a hashtag for a member, for example if a member doesn't
want to receive RSS feeds like the #feed, the moderator or owner should
mute the hashtag for the member.
I don't think there's any mechanism for you to do that.

I wonder if something went wrong with the fix. Now, after replying to a message, I'm taken to the previous message in the thread - not the one I responded to.
