Thanks Mark.

I think this is most value to members who use the messages view so they can see where they are up to and should keep them happy until the more accurate tracking method can be implemented.

The difference in the lightness and darkness is very subtle and a bigger contrast or change of colour would be better if possible.

Bob

locked Re: the Top Posters list

I wouldn't mind having an easy way to find all posts by someone, as yahoo provides (albeit in its own clumsy fashion). Currently, in groups.io we have only the "top posters list" (which many object to), and that only yields all posts by those "top posters"; and the member activity log, which is only available to moderators. There seems to be a big gap here. Maybe this is on the ToDo list, but it keeps popping up.

I agree with this request re top posters. It is unnecessary for our groups, and could be counter productive.

Hi all, new to the beta group.

I mentioned this off list to Mark (I think it was Mark), but wonder if the Top Posters list is really necessary, or if there could be an option to disable it?  Our group is not the type of group that is competitive about this sort of thing and we don't want that kind of competition. We have one group member, however, who is very proud to be the top poster but a margin of over a thousand!!, and makes many posts per day that are trivial and unneccesary. It would really help a lot if we could just do away with it altogether. I don't know how hard or easy it would be to make an on/off toggle, but if it's easy, it would really make my life a lot easier. A lot LOL!!

I'm curious to know how others use some of the other features, such as the wiki and hangouts.  There are so many great features, but we can't think what to do with them all.

Hi Bob,

One good thing with Yahoo when you read messages on the web interface is that once you have read them, the message title is dimmed so that you know you have read it. This would be a great feature to add for members who alway read messages on the web.

There are a couple of ways of tackling this. One way is the 'easy' way, which is what Yahoo does and what Shal talked about. Making the links change color after you've visited them, and your browser tracks which links you've visited. We can do this right now, but there are a couple of things. If viewing the Threads view, because of the link structure of the site, if a new message comes in for a thread, that won't cause the link to change color. Also, we had a request awhile ago to bold the links, to make them stand out.

I've just made this change. Please let me know what you think. Lighter links are new, darker links indicate threads/messages that have been read. I'm not sure if this should be reversed or not.

The harder way of tackling this, is for us to keep track of which messages/threads you've read. This is a better approach, because it's more accurate. But it requires a lot of work on our side to make it happen. It's on the TODO list, but I'm not sure when it will happen.

Thanks,
Mark

LOL. This is the one and only time in my entire life that I wanted kitten pictures to go away. :-)

Thanks.

Not aware of any issues this morning. I have upgraded the site a couple of times. My guess is you hit the site right at the point of one of the upgrades, and then your browser cached the kittens (which I don't think it should do). If you happen upon this again and the kittens don't go away pretty quickly, try holding the shift key while hitting the reload button.

Thanks,

locked minor bug: In subgroup, HTML-Title still says "GROUPAME+SUB" #bug

Ber <bxm@...>

It's only a minor bug that doesn't seem to affect any functionality, except consistency in naming things:

In a subgroup, the page title still has + as connector in the form of GROUPNAME+SUB instead of saying SUB@GROUPNAME according to the newly introduced subgroups/domains-scheme.

Thanks for all the good work!

Maria

I'd also suggested this in addition to some other thoughts in the thread called "mobile version".

Maybe those two can be merged.

I don't think an app is needed if the mobile version can be "wrapped" and there is a notification overhaul which includes notifications on the homescreen favicon? As I mentioned on the other thread I think Slack for example isn't a native app ... But in any event I agree that the mobile version interface needs to be played around with a bit to make it easier to use. The icons for actions should be near top of screen or other ideas to avoid scrolling down and using back button.

Would it be possible to have The icons for Messages, New Topic etc to appear at the top of the screen on mobile readers eg Android Phones instead of below the current messages?

locked Resize and change file name of photo from iPad

It would be great if there could be a way to resize and change the file name of a photo from iPad. The file name becomes the caption in the Email Photos folder and posting without being able to resize from Photos on an iPad is just to large.

I'm sure Mark is already using a standard one. This is about a request for a states drop-down list. (I'm sure it's easy to find standards for that as well.)

Does Scotland count as a country,? Do Catalunya, Wales, Breizh or Kurdistan?

locked Re: hovering over column to bring up column description #suggestion

There too. Good idea. And there they could actually be dispalyed without the user hovering over them.

Also: "This field is required" is shown for required fields on the update page, I wonder if "select all that apply" or "select one" could also be shown for the multiple-choice answer types. That would eliminate having to put these in the titles and/or column descriptions.

locked Re: hovering over column to bring up column description #suggestion

J,

It would be nice to make column descriptions easily accessible by
members, even if the table is only editable by moderators, without
having to throw all the details into the column name itself. (For
example, in a multi multiple-choice answer, I'm having to add "select
all that apply" to the column name.)
I like the idea of providing a hint like that to the members. And not just in the column headers of the table view, but also where the column Titles appear in the Update Row page.
