Edited

Just a heads up to look at the digest in your inboxes today. There are inline images in a few posts and they have thrown of the width formatting / layout of the digest.

I can see this being a big issue with image heavy groups, classifieds etc.

edit: in fact those posts are also formatted incorrectly width wise on the mobile web version too.

Thanks

The home page is already different for members, since it includes several tabs in the sidebar (depending on privacy settings) not available to non-members. An alternative would be to expand on that by including an optional 'For New Members' or 'Group Info' (or something) tab that shows up only for members.

It can be hard for new members to find their way around the group. We have text on navigating the group, but currently it's in files and/or sticky messages so it's a catch 22: new mdmbers need to navigate around the group to find the text.

As to the statistics... in yahoogroups, "this groups has had 500 messages this week" usually means it's a spamhaven, but in groups.io we prevent those from coming into existence, right?

Yes, I know. I think Mark May have underestimated the scope of the bug he posted about before. I don't feel the feature is really stable yet. I'll have a look at the wiki page later. I am •finally• buying a new computer and need to get set up.;)

The problem may not be entirely on your end.

I started to work on a help page for TOC and encountered an unexpected quirk: it seems the page must have at least one header paragraph before the TOC button works.

When I created a fresh page, added some text, then moved to a blank line to insert the TOC, the button brought up the dialog to fill in the Title and number of levels, but then clicking the Insert button went back to the edit, but it hadn't inserted anything. I was able to manually type the TOC marker and that worked.

Starting over in another fresh page I did the same experiment, but before clicking the TOC button I changed the style of one paragraph to h1. This time the TOC insert worked correctly.

I can then interrogate you on the details, and *I* would be happy to
write instructions for your wiki. (We could do that offlist?)
Thanks! Here's the page:

Yes, I think it would be a good idea to keep the back-and-forth about creating the page out of beta@ -- but it would be on-topic in GroupManagersForum@ since that group's Wiki hosts the page. Or feel free to contact me offlist if you prefer.

locked Rejection emails not being sent?

James Homuth

So I've had to reject a couple messages from folks on moderation. I do it via email usually simply because I happen to be there anyway when I do it. I just got an email from one of those people saying they haven't seen their posts or anything else saying there was an issue. Are rejection emails no longer being sent? Additiionally, is it possible to specify a reason in the rejection message when you do it by email?

locked Site Updates #changelog

Changes to the site this week:

  • CHANGE: Default sort in members list is most recently joined.
  • CHANGE: Removed the Top Posters list from the group home page.
  • BUGFIX: Bulk delete of hashtags wasn't clearing the search index.
  • BUGFIX: Files search was broken.
  • BUGFIX: Calendar event notifications weren't converting markdown descriptions correctly.
  • CHANGE: Reformatted calendar event notification and reminder emails.
  • BUGFIX: Thread ids weren't being cast correctly in message footers.
  • BUGFIX: Domain issue when replying to subgroups in the mailbox view.
  • BUGFIX: Links in some invite emails contained a duplicated domain.
  • INTERNAL: Work on the internal admin console.
  • NEW: Signatures.
  • BUGFIX: We were supposed to be blocking attachments with extensions here, https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6590?hl=en, but weren't.
  • INTERNAL: Changes to make importing Yahoo groups easier.
  • BUGFIX/CHANGE: Disallow underscores in names because subdomains cannot contain underscores. Prevent new subgroup creation when the parent group contains an underscore.

Cheers, Mark

Hello

I have a Facebook page that promote my Groups.io.
I want to know if it's possible to post directly news photos and file directly to the Facebook files.
It's a little like Flickr to Facebook option.

Thanks for your help!

locked Choose Font

Jean Bennett

I apologize if this has been covered already.  I checked Trello and did a message search in our group and could not locate it.

Our members have requested the ability to choose a font when composing messages from the board.  Is this a planned feature?  If not, could it be added to the list?

locked Ability to change file name in Emailed Photos File

Bob

It would be great to be able to change a photo file name in Emailed Photos or when posting a photo on the website.

At the moment most photos in the Photo Files have names like 20140929_093034.jpg whereas my_orange_cat.jpg is so much better.

Some posters are thoughtful and change the name before posting but on an iPhone or iPad it is not possible.
