Thanks Shal!

Agree that a notification when a member changes his/her email would be phenomenal. This way we can log it in to our database offline.

Agree the activity log needs to be searchable by email address so you can find when xxx@ became zzz@.

And the click and then remove is tedious for large organizations that have people who move on. Membership based orgs, etc.

and you are totally right about the not letting a member change their email being an awful idea :) Scratch that!

Hopefully Mark can help us out with these items.

locked attach-photo upload: progress bars inconsistent #bug?

When I upload a photo via message attachment on the web, two progress bars appear: one large and low on the page, and another smaller one directly below the image of the photo. The lower, larger one always goes to 100% immediately, but the smaller one lags behind, and often sits (indefinitely) at 92%, 95%, etc., so I'm never sure whether the photo has actually finished loading and am hesitant to hit "close" and "send." I tested this in my test group, and it seems that sometimes (or always?) the photo *has* actually finished loading, even when the smaller bar displays a percentage below 100. Should we be ignoring that smaller bar? Can this be fixed? It tends to cause me (and perhaps other users) to think something went wrong with the upload, and to delete and redo over and over again.

locked Re: "mute"<--> "unmute" on site; "mute" even if title changes #suggestion

Duane,

For me, the "muted" tab appears only on the Groups.io home page. It seems to only applies to muted hashtags, because when I go there it says "you have not muted any hashtags." The other possibility is that the message is wrongly worded. However, I *have* muted (or attempted to mute) a handful of threads.

So either mute thread is buggy, and/or the "you have not muted any hashtags" message" is wrongly worded (or buggy), and/or the tab (on purpose) only applies to hashtags (in which case I would love for it to be expanded to threads as well).

On the left menu on many pages, including https://groups.io/, under Messages, the choices are All, Muted, and Followed. (There are also Muted and Followed options under the Hashtag choice.) I don't have any muted, but it seems that should have what you're looking for since that should be a site wide display choice. I haven't (yet) found a similar option for each group.

p.s. I just muted the "MIME digest" thread for what seemed like the umpteenth time, because I'm still getting the messages. However, what was weird was that I noticed that afterwards I was taken to a page that had a "Muted" tab in the left sidebar.

At first I thought, "Aha! There already *is* a way to see all my muted threads!" and I was going to cancel my wishlist request, since it seems to already be there. But now I can't seem to get back to that tab. I tried both Threads and Messages view.

?????

[EDIT: I see that the button appears on "home" and only refers to hashtags. Could thread titles be included?]

Not a testing issue. In one of the largest and oldest groups I'm in, the digest always lands in "Promotions." In my own group, it lands there selectively in a test member's account.[EDIT: "selectively" meaning sometimes it lands there, sometimes it doesn't - entirely unpredictable]

I'm wondering if there's something in the testing group messages that triggers Gmail's promotions filter?  You might want to look at what goes out in a normal subscription (or other) message as opposed to whatever you're using for testing.

locked "mute"<--> "unmute" on site; "mute" even if title changes #suggestion

I have muted several threads that it seems I'm still getting in email. I noticed that for at least some of them, the titles have changed, and that's (possibly) why (and/or there's a bug).

Wishlist item #1: I would like the "mute" to persist even if the thread title changes.

Wishlist item #2: I would like to see a list of all threads I've muted, or at least to be able to determine on the site, on a thread-by-thread basis, which ones I've muted. Some people might also want a way to see which threads they've muted so that they can selectively unmute them - which of course would have to be done on the site, since they're no longer getting the emails. The wishlist item would be: For any thread a user has muted, put a "muted - click here to unmute" button on the site. This could be on the thread view, if there's an obvious way to do that (I'm not sure there is), or on each message in a muted thread.

Wishlist item #2a (radical version): Every message or thread on the site would have either a "mute this thread" or "muted - click to  unmute" button.

Thanks, John. Is it possible to transfer just the messages, but not members? I'd rather notify all the Yahoo groups members about the new Groups.io group, and let them decide which one they would want. I did that back in 2007 and still do that currently with the Yahoo group to let them know about the Google group.

locked Re: Is GMAIL putting groups.io in promo tab?

If you mean transferring s yahoo group, no worries. Mark sends an individual email to all group members, digest or not, no-email or not. But I, too, wonder if there's anything that be find about this on the Grouos.io side. Gmail users can opt out of the tabs, but I suspect many group members don't realize they can do that, or even that there's a need to. The only other messages appearing in 'promotions' are pure advertising.

When a "transfer" is done, nothing is deleted on Yahoo, so intially, you'd have 3 groups. It would be up to you to choose whether the others remain or not.

With the ability to download the archived messages on IO, you may even decide you no longer need the Google backup. Files and photos would be a bit more work to backup, at least at present, but doable. It wouldn't surprise me too much if there's not an "archive group" function some day to make it super easy. Mark has the intention of making Groups.io the ultimate groups site and it gets a little closer each day.

We transferred over to groups.io all the members and all the posts, but not the files and photos. The Yahoo Group was left in situ until we were happy with groups.io (we were immediately) and I then closed the old Yahoo Group so that anyone searching for it wouldn't find it. Make the move, don't delay and kiss those problems goodbye.

Best wishes

I suppose my question is this ...

If I transfer the Yahoo group (the archive) to Groups.io, what happens then to the Yahoo Group? Is it still an extant and functioning group on Yahoo? That is, would I have a Yahoo group (still fully intact), a Google group and a Groups.io one, or would I just have a Google group and a Groups.io one?

Thanks.

I've had Yahoo groups for 17 years, and the problems seem to be never-ending ... this past week and a half have been really bad.

I agree with Ronaldo. Leave the plain text option for those who wish to set a preferred font and size on their own computers. We have a number of members with sight limitations (call 'em 'high mileage' members if you like) who use larger defaults.

I'm not sure i understand what that would look like

So the message would carry a text/HTML part much like a normal full featured digest, but absent the content (message bodies).
Instead, the TOC would be cid: reference links to the individual messages each in its own part of a multipart/related.
What does "the TOC would be cid" mean?

and would this feature make original messages get forwarded instead of the edited plain-text?

We are retesting this today as are eager to figure it out.

The screenshots load fine. We reduced the acceptable attachment size to 500kb. But regular iPhone images produce an error and erratic behavior: sometimes they land in pending, sometimes they go back to drafts.

I feel like when loading images from an iPhone maybe the system doesn't know how to resize them? Not sure.

But whether we loaded them from iPhone or desktop our digest shoes them as empty boxes with the broken pic icon.

Would love to have the sorted as we have a group for which each post will have a picture with almost 3000 very active  members.

Thank you!
