locked group deletion

As you may remember, I’ve been moving a number of groups to groups.io.  I just deleted one of those groups on groups.io and on yahoo groups.  Unfortunately, the group I deleted is still showing in the groups.io list of my groups even though I’ve deleted it.  Is that supposed to happen?

Subject: [beta] AOL blocking Groups.io

Hi All,

It appears that as a result of the spammer attack earlier this week that AOL is blocking emails from Groups.io. I've opened a trouble ticket with them, but unfortunately I don't know when this will get resolved. I had previously applied and been granted whitelist status for Groups.io and their site still reports that we are whitelisted, so I'm not exactly sure what else I can do at this point.

I will keep you posted.

Thanks,

Mark

Just seeing that this post and others have images that also show up in the digest as inline images. Our test groups digest won't show images... What are we doing wrong? Any advice?

The inability to find all posts by a given member has become a serious limitation in my group. Especially for members who are (and were once shown as) the actual 'top posters,' frequent (and, in most cases, important) contributors to the group, it is now virtually impossible for anyone except a moderator to find all of their posts.

This has actually been available in the search box for quite some time, but is not at all documented (I just had to check and make sure it still worked). When you are in Messages view, in the search box type poster:emailaddress, where emailaddress is the email address of the member whose posts you wish to view. You can add search terms as well.

I'll add a 'See all posts by this member' and in general clean things up at some point. But this should get you the functionality you need now.

Hi LeeAnne,

Which group are you seeing this in? I checked Horsekeeping@ECIR and couldn't duplicate it.

Thanks,

Hi again Mark,

We are still having problems with "ghosts" in the machine (or files) ;-)

This is the current/proper view of the file contents:

When I did a file search for "Emergency Diet" (without the quotes) it returned this:

"7 Hay and Diet Balancing" was a folder that had been renamed/moved for better organization.

Yeah, I believe that's just to track subgroup membership of all the parent
group members, and to create a subgroup. Subgroup admin is reachable
through the Your Groups pulldown, or from the parent group home page.

I'd love to have someone join and then for them to have a subgroup page
to click where they can see a list of subgroups with descriptions and
how many members are in each plus "join" buttons.
The parent group home page does show the subgroups and descriptions.
You have to go to each one to subscribe though. And it doesn't indicate
group size ... (yet ;).

We would definitely remove that option in our group given the option. Because we'd worry that members wouldn't know the difference and the htmlMaria digest is so much nicer and probably what they want anyway given they'd be used to they from our existing group.

Can you please add the option to receive All Messages in individual emails
but for these emails to be sent just once a day? That is, at x o’clock a
subscriber who has this setting gets a big bunch of individual emails in
one go.
Would that be an X o'clock according to the wishes of the owner or according to the wishes of the member?
It would make sense for me to have it early in the morning, so it won't tempt me to answer late at night....

Digest emails are useless for filing and replying but being distracted by a
steady flow/chatter can be equally annoying.
In some types of groups, digests are GREAT for replying to several messages of the same thread in one message.

Chatter can be reduced by clear policies [no "me too's" or "thank you"s] and disciplin, and by using the "unfollow" feature

Aha! Told you it was silly :) I should have seen that on our test groups main page.

So here are my next questions though:

1-I don't want the general public seeing links for our subgroups, only members.

2- as an admin when I go to the subgroup icon on the menu of my main group I see a list of my subgroup members and I can do admin stuff but there is no way to get to the subgroup other than the " your groups".

3- could we have a tab/menu item for our subgroups ( not the admin panel) but actually a button to click that goes to a page with all subgroups available plus the ones you are actually in? I know there is the "your groups" tab up top but I wonder if a subgroups directory only visible to the members would make life easier for those of us with many subgroups?

I'd love to have someone join and then for them to have a subgroup page to click where they can see a list of subgroups with descriptions and how many members are in each plus "join" buttons.

We haveva lot of subgroups!

Thank you so much!

We anticipate our members wanting the fully featured version but not being clear about how it's different from plain one.

Or is it possible for a group to eliminate the plain one from the options?

I'm not against removing the plain text digest option if people are ok with that.

There is a list of subgroups on the home page for the parent group.  It is visible to parent group members whether or not you are a member of the subgroup.

You can click on a subgroup link to go that subgroups's homepage, where there's a prominent "Join This Group" button if you're not already a member.

Apologies if this is another silly question ( I have many!) . Is it possible for members of the parent group to see a list of the subgroups and apply to join these? I know we can set a subgroup to have archives that the main group members can see but how do we make archives visible only to those approved for subgroup but make the subgroup appear on a list of subgroups a member of main group can apply to join?

we have many subgroups and most are elective, so we would want our folks to see a list of them and click "join" on any that appeal.

moderators would then approve applicants.

Thank you!

It would be helpful to know when a member has muted a thread. (I don't see it in the possible log entries.)
